Aria’s POV
His family is f****d up, I wondered why he was still speaking to them, his father was the of my person worth speaking to. His stepmother and his uncles were nothing but rude to me and his w***e. Even a fool would know he slept with her, the way she stared at me like she would stab a knife in me, the way she spoke to me.
We were now outside, by we mean Serena came outside with me.
“Listen-No you listen, I don’t care what happens between you and Elijah and I obviously don’t give a f**k. Don’t come threatening me to stay away from him, I would suggest you stay away from him.” I yelled. The words sounded foreign slipping out of my lips, I hate Elijah, I hate him for what he did to us, but I won’t let some b***h add to my troubles, Elijah and I are married he pledges loyalty to me. “I don’t care who you are or what you meant to him, but I’m the one married to him not you,”
I am not going to stand here and listen to some nonsense from his past wh*r*, I walked back into the house when I hear the words that destroyed my life.
A mafia king, he is a mafia king, that explains the authority, the guns, the multiple men, his rules.
A tear slips out of my eyes, I am married to a mafia king, I don’t have a way out of this marriage, and he wasn’t joking when he says he would kill my family, of course he can, he can get us all killed without anyone a trace, all these while I thought he was a powerful man but not this powerful.
“Aria listen-“ he says, my strides lengthened as I walked out of the house. I felt a hand stopping me from walking further.
“Please.” He whispers, something about his voice made me want to listen.
“You will explain everything.” I say coldly and he nods.
I can’t run away even if I wanted to, he would find me in a blink of an eye. The drive back to his house was filled with awkwardness and uncomfortable silence. When we got back into the house, he walked me back into his office.
“I’m sorry, I was going to tell you. I didn’t want to scare you.” He begins to say.
“You meant it when he said you would kill my family, you weren’t joking.”
“I am not going to hurt them, there are something's I can’t tell you.”
He can’t be serious.
“You ruined my life, you dragged me into your mess. My life will always be in danger because I am associated with you, my family will always be in danger because of you. I deserve to know everything.” I yell.
He can’t tell me, he would be keeping things from me. It’s my right to know.
“I will always protect you, I will never harm you, Aria. I just need you to trust me.”
“I can’t, you lied to me.” I whisper, I didn’t want him see me cry, so I walked out of the room, I rush into the bathroom and locked the door.
The threats, everything came rushing through my head, I cried until I couldn’t cry anymore, when I walked back into the room he was there.
“I had to marry you.” He begins to say. “I know I was selfish to bring you into this life, but I didn’t have much of a choice, you have met my family.”
“They are assholes.”
“They were trying to take the title away from me, the mafia my father worked hard for. I had to find a wife.”
“And you choose me, what happened to bimbo.” I gritted through my teeth.
“I would rather kill her than marry her, I could never do that to myself. I had to save my father.”
His father, the only man who was nice to me, I never understood what he meant by he had to marry me, he could have to choose anyone hey he chooses me, someone he knows nothing about, I have never seen him until the day he came into our house.
“You are lying.” I whispered, there was a part of me that didn’t believe the reason he mentioned regarding our marriage, if he had needed a wife badly it could have been anyone, yet he chooses me.
“What did you say?”
“You are lying, Elijah, look into my eye and swear that is the reason you married me.”
He was unable to look into my eye, his eyes averted from him, I could tell he was lying.
“When you are ready to tell me the truth, I will be here.” I whispered, I was about leaving when he held my hand, stopping me.
“I’m sorry this is not what you think, I’m sorry this marriage is not the fantasy that you wanted, and I’m sorry you had to find out about this.”
“Did you ever intend to tell me about it, about your title.” I asked.
“I intended to, I was going to ease you into it, I knew you would be scared if I had just told you.”
“I don’t like finding out things from other people, it seems like everyone knows my husband more than I do.” I whispered; I didn’t wait for him to say anything, I left.
I stayed in the room for an hour before I felt it’s time to leave, my stomach agreed with me. I was walking when I bumped into someone, I was about apologizing when I saw who it was.
Serene.
She had a grin on her face, she has just walked out of his office, she wore a coat, I could see her baby blue bra, she pushed past me making her way downstairs.
Elijah came out after she left, my chest tightened with anger, my eyes met his briefly before a curse escaped my lips.
