Another tough week

Another tough week   “Aisha! Aisha! Wake up. It’s already 7:30 Am, you are going to be late today” My mom screamed.   I yawned as I opened my eyes. I jumped up from my bed when my eyes caught the clock and realized that it was late. I took my uniform and ran into the bathroom to take a quick shower. I put my uniform on and ran to the kitchen to take my lunch box.   “Wait Aisha, have your breakfast first” mom never lets me skip breakfast.   “No mom, I am already late” I told her.   “No, drink at least this glass of milk” she handed me my favourite glass of bournvita milk.   I drank it in one go and left for Riya’s house. I missed the school bus today and asked her to miss it too so that we can go to school together.   “Last week was really a tough one but I did a great job” I praised myself for all the patience that I have shown.   “This week is also going to be a tough one and I have to bear this guy for another week. Oh god! Why?” I cried because I have already had enough of Ishaan and his irritating company last week.   I reached at Riya’s place and pressed the door bell. Aunty opened the door and as I entered I was extremely disappointed to know that she didn’t have her breakfast yet.   I went to her room and saw her combing her hair.   “What are you doing?” I asked her.   “Hurry up! We are late” I hissed at her.   “I didn’t have my breakfast yet” she yelled as I pulled her out of the house.   “You can have something from canteen, we are late” I repeated.   “Okay! But wait I forgot to take my English notebook. I will get it in 2 minutes” She went inside the house again and brought the book.   “I missed the bus because of you” She told me when I gave her an angry look.   We took an auto and reached the school in half an hour. We missed the assembly and were 15 minutes late. We somehow managed to get into school and as we were about to enter the classroom someone suddenly stepped out in front of me. I was panting and when I looked at the shoe I realized it could be none other than Ishaan. I looked up and gave him an angry stare.   “Move” I said annoyingly.   “I won’t” He blocked my way.   “Stop irritating me Ishaan. We are already late” I insisted.   “But Ma’m is absent today” He said.   “What?” I asked him happily.   “Yes” he replied.   “Thank God. We are safe.” Riya said.   “What are you doing here?” She asked Ishaan.   “I was waiting for you” He replied.   “How sweet of you” She said in awe.   “I am sweet since birth” He said moving his hands through his hair.   “Let’s go” I pulled Riya inside the classroom.   “I really like this guy” Riya mumbled looking at Ishaan.   “What did you just say?” I asked her.   “Nothing, I just said that he is a nice guy” She replied.   “He may be nice for you but for me he is the worst person on planet and is my biggest enemy” I said in anger.   “Why do you get hyper when it comes to Ishaan?” She asked.   “I don’t know but I hate him” I replied.         *** Classes had ended, bell rang and all the students packed their stuff to leave for home. I too packed my bag when suddenly Ishaan came to me and reminded me of our detention class.   “Where are you going? We have to stay here for our detention class. Have you forgotten?”   “Oh god, it totally skipped my mind. I don’t want to be here with you” I sighed.   “Oh but I am dying to be with you” he said sarcastically.   I gave him an angry look and sat back on my seat.   All the students left, Neetu ma’m came to see if we are present in our detention class.   “So, you guys are here for detention class. Good! Work on the project together and stop fighting” she warned both of us.   “Okay ma’m” We said looking at each other.   I took out my physics textbook from my bag and started reading Newton’s third law of motion. Ishaan took the book from me and started reading out loud.   “Give my textbook back.” I snatched my book from him.   “Let me read” He took the book from me.   “Why don’t you take your book out” I said taking the book from him.   “I don’t have my textbook. Let me read” He said taking it from me.   “Okay” I said in annoyance.   He started reading with concentration and I was getting really bored.   “What am I supposed to do till then?” I asked.   “You can join me” He said.   “Okay” I replied and we started going through the topic and discussed about the ideas that can be used to create the project.   After a lot of discussion we made a list of the all the materials that we require.   “You get plastic cup, modelling clay and craft knife. I will get 2 bendable straws and string.” I said.   “Okay” He agreed.   The clock ticked 6:00pm and I was never this happy to leave school. I was done with a day of detention class and it really seemed like a very big achievement.                             ****   “Have you got the things for the project?” I asked Ishaan.   “Yes. I got all the things that you asked me to get Aisha” He said with a smile.   “You guys must be having fun right?” Riya interrupted.   “Fun, with him, not at all. This is the worst punishment that anyone could ever get” I replied abruptly.   “Our feelings are mutual” Ishaan said raising his eyebrows.   “You guys will never change” Riya sighed.   Ishaan and I looked at each other in annoyance. I hate him so much that I cannot stand him even for a while but sadly, I am being put in situations where I had to tolerate his presence, his annoying attitude and his stupidity.   We were all alone in the classroom as it was time for detention class again.   “So now we have to make two small holes on the opposite sides of this cup” I said taking the cup in my hand.   “I will make it” He snatched the cup from me.   “I will do that” I said taking the cup back.   “Why do you always do that” he said in annoyance.   “What did I do?” I asked him giving a fake smile.   “Nothing, you do it” he said.   “We now have to thread the string through these two holes and tie a knot” He said giving me the string.   I carefully did that and then made two holes at the bottom of the cup to fit the straw.   “Cut both the straws about 1.5 inches” I asked him.   “This is a very simple project” I said looking at the model that we are preparing.   “Yes! It’s a very simple one. We will be done with it today” He said.   “Yes! Hopefully” I replied.    “We just have to seal the space with clay now” I said.   “Where is clay” I said looking at all the materials placed on the bench.   “Didn’t you get it” He asked.   “I asked you to get it” I replied.   “No! You said you will get it” He said.   “No! I asked you to get it” I replied annoyingly.   “No! You said you will get it” He repeated.   “Ishaan, I asked you to get these three things, remember?” I said pointing the things on the paper. “I don’t remember” He denied.   “Nothing happens if you for once accept your mistake” I said.   “It wasn’t my mistake. You forgot to get it” he replied.   “Why do you always do things to make me angry?” I asked in rage.   “I don’t do anything. It’s just that you are temperamental who gets angry easily and whose mood changes so quickly” He replied.   “I am not. It’s you who ruin my mood” I said in annoyance.   “See, you have your angry mode on all the time. Try being happy and chilled out.  It’s fun.” He replied.   “Whatever! Get clay tomorrow. We will be done with the project tomorrow” I ignored his words.   “Okay! Let’s leave now” He said looking at his watch.       *******   “How are the things going?” Neetu ma’m asked.   “We are almost done with it Ma’m” We said standing in the staff room.   All the teachers were having their eyes on us as if they haven’t seen us before or we were some aliens.   “Good! But it’s not just about making the project, it should be successful first and then you need to be able to explain thoroughly about it” She said.   “Yes ma’m. We are trying” We said nodding our heads.   “Okay! So, the main reason of calling you guys here is to tell you that there is no detention class today and tomorrow.” She said.   “You will only have two days left to work on the project” She continued.   “Yes ma’m! It doesn’t require much time so I guess that 2 days are enough” I said in excitement.   The happiness was visible on our faces. I was glad that I won’t have to tolerate this guy for 2 days.   “Thank god. I got a break from you” I said after coming out of the staff room.   “Yeah, I am extremely thankful to god for giving me at least two happy days” he replied.      ****     “Why isn’t it working” I asked looking at the model.   “What do I know” He replied.   “We did the experiment as it was given but I don’t know where you made a mistake” I said.   “Excuse me! What do you mean by I made a mistake?” He asked raising his brows.   “Yes! I mean that it’s all because of your mistakes that this model isn’t working. You were the one who forgot to get clay and it’s all because of that” I said.   “Firstly, it was you who were supposed to get clay and secondly, your theory is completely wrong” He replied.   “Whatever” I ended the blame game.   We tried different ways to make the project work but failed to do so. After several failed tries we decided to make the project again and this time with more concentration and seriousness.   “Time is up. We will have to start over again tomorrow” Ishaan said looking at his watch.   “Yes! I hope we will able to get it done rightly this time” I said hopefully.                  ****   We started making the project again and this time we were careful about every little thing.   “We are done with the model making but I hope it will work this time” I said.   “I will work” He replied with confidence.   “How are you so sure?” I asked.   “I am sure it will work” He replied.   “Okay! Let’s check” I said holding the pouring water into the cup.   “Hold the engine away from your body” He instructed.   We noticed the model and to our amazement we were successful.   “Gravity is pulling the water downwards, and throwing it out through straws.” He said observing the results.   “Which is causing the engine to move in clockwise direction” He continued.   “Which means that our project is a success” I shouted in excitement. “Yes” He too was extremely happy.   In excitement we raised our hands and gave a high five. We paused for a moment because it seemed quite awkward. Although giving a high five is a very common thing between friends but we weren’t friends, we were foes.   It was the last day of our detention class and I was too happy because from now onwards I won’t have to spend time with Ishaan. We have been spending time with each other since two weeks and these two weeks seemed to be the toughest days of my life.   I was happy that I was finally freed from his company. He looked happy too.   “I am glad I won’t have to be with you from next week” He said looking at me.   “Feelings are mutual Ishaan” I said with a smile.
