Chapter 61

1473 Words
The morning light filtered softly through the curtains of the cabin, casting a gentle glow over the room. Isla stirred, her head throbbing slightly from the wine she had consumed the night before. She blinked, trying to clear the haze from her mind, and then froze as she realized she was not alone in bed. Teddy's arm was draped over her, his body warm and solid beside her. Panic and regret washed over her as the events of the previous night came rushing back. She remembered the wine, the confrontation, the heated words, and the passionate kisses. Her heart sank as she realized that, in her vulnerable state, she had let Teddy back into her bed. "How could I be so stupid?" she whispered to herself, tears of frustration welling up in her eyes. She carefully slipped out from under Teddy's arm and stood by the bed, her body trembling with a mix of emotions. The sound of her movement stirred Teddy, and he woke, blinking sleepily. "Isla?" he murmured, reaching out for her. "Don't," Isla snapped, her voice sharper than she intended. "Don't touch me." Teddy sat up, confusion and hurt flashing across his face. "Isla, what's wrong?" "What's wrong?" Isla repeated, her voice rising with anger. "We slept together last night, Teddy. After everything that's happened, after everything you did, I let this happen. And now I regret it. How could I be so weak?" Teddy's eyes widened with realization and guilt. "Isla, I'm sorry. I didn't mean for this to happen. I love you, and I thought—" "You thought what?" Isla interrupted, her voice shaking with fury. "That you could just waltz back into my life and everything would be okay? That you could fix everything with a few sweet words and a night in bed? It doesn't work like that, Teddy." Teddy stood, reaching out to her. "Isla, please, listen to me. I know I messed up. I know I hurt you. But I love you, and I want to make things right." Isla stepped back, her eyes blazing. "You had your chance, Teddy. And you blew it. I don't know if I can ever trust you again. And last night... last night just made everything worse." "Please, don't kick me out," Teddy begged, his voice breaking. "I need you, Isla. I love you more than anything. Give me another chance." Isla's heart ached at the desperation in his voice, but her anger and hurt were too overwhelming. "You need to leave, Teddy. Right now. I need space to think, to figure out what I want. And I can't do that with you here." Teddy looked devastated, but he nodded slowly, realizing that he had no choice. "Okay," he said quietly. "I'll go. But please, Isla, remember that I love you. And I'll do anything to prove that to you." Isla didn't respond, her arms crossed tightly over her chest as she watched him gather his clothes and dress. She felt a pang of guilt as he moved toward the door, but she forced herself to stay firm. This was what she needed, what she had to do to find some clarity. As Teddy reached the door, he turned to look at her one last time. "I'm sorry," he whispered, his eyes filled with sorrow. "I'll be waiting, Isla. Whenever you're ready." With that, he opened the door and stepped out, leaving Isla alone in the cabin. The silence that followed was deafening, and Isla sank onto the bed, burying her face in her hands as sobs wracked her body. She had thought that seeing Teddy again, being with him, might bring some comfort, some resolution. But instead, it had only deepened her confusion and pain. She needed to find a way to heal, to understand what she truly wanted and needed. As the morning light grew brighter, Isla took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. She would take it one day at a time, focusing on her own needs and feelings. And maybe, eventually, she would find the strength to forgive and move forward, whether that meant rebuilding her relationship with Teddy or finding a new path on her own. For now, she would focus on herself, on healing and finding peace. It was the only way she could hope to move beyond the hurt and confusion that had taken hold of her heart. As the door closed behind Teddy, the silence of the cabin felt oppressive, pressing down on Isla with a weight she hadn't anticipated. She sat back down on the edge of the bed, her mind a whirlwind of emotions and thoughts that she couldn't quite untangle. The remnants of their shared night hung in the air, a potent mix of longing, regret, and confusion. She hugged her knees to her chest, trying to make sense of it all. Was last night a mistake? Or was it her subconscious trying to tell her something she was too afraid to acknowledge? The warmth of Teddy's touch, the familiarity of his embrace—these were things she had missed deeply. But how could she reconcile that with the hurt he had caused? Isla's thoughts drifted back to the beginning of their relationship, to the moments that had made her fall in love with him. Teddy had been her rock, her confidant, someone who made her feel seen and cherished. She had trusted him implicitly, and that trust had been shattered in an instant. The betrayal had cut deep, leaving wounds that were still raw and bleeding. But last night, in her vulnerable state, she had let him back in. Why? What was it about Teddy that still had such a hold on her heart? She closed her eyes, trying to listen to the quiet voice within her, the one that had been drowned out by the chaos and pain. How could she still love someone who had hurt her so easily? Isla's thoughts turned to the moments they had shared before everything had fallen apart. The laughter, the shared dreams, the way he had made her feel safe and loved. Those memories were like bittersweet ghosts, haunting her with what had been and what could never be again. But love wasn't logical. It wasn't something she could simply turn off, no matter how much she wished she could. Despite the betrayal, despite the pain, a part of her still loved Teddy. That part of her ached for the connection they had once shared, the intimacy that had been so abruptly torn away. "How could I still love him?" Isla whispered to herself, her voice trembling. "After everything he's done, how can I still feel this way?" She stood up and walked to the window, looking out at the forest beyond the cabin. The trees stood tall and unwavering, their leaves rustling softly in the breeze. Nature had a way of enduring, of growing through the harshest of storms. Could she find that same resilience within herself? As she stared out into the woods, Isla's mind began to clear. She had to acknowledge her feelings, however conflicting they might be. Loving Teddy didn't mean she had to forgive him immediately or forget the pain he had caused. It didn't mean she had to take him back or make any decisions right now. But it did mean she had to be honest with herself about what she felt. Could last night have been her subconscious making a choice for her? Maybe. Maybe it was her way of seeking closure or trying to hold on to the good that had existed between them. Or perhaps it was simply a moment of weakness, a temporary lapse in her resolve. Isla knew she needed to take the time to understand these feelings, to sort through the confusion and hurt. She had to find a way to reconcile the love she still felt with the reality of what had happened. It would take time, and it wouldn't be easy, but she was determined to face it head-on. She took a deep breath, feeling a sense of resolve settle over her. The path ahead was uncertain, but she was stronger than she realized. She would take it one step at a time, allowing herself to feel everything, to heal at her own pace. For now, she needed to focus on herself, to rebuild the trust and confidence that had been shaken. Whether that meant eventually finding a way back to Teddy or moving forward without him, she would figure it out in her own time. Isla turned away from the window, her heart heavy but her spirit unbroken. She would navigate this storm, just as she had navigated so many others before. And in the end, she would emerge stronger, with a clearer understanding of what she truly needed and deserved.
