9 The carriage rolled through the streets and into the dense marketplaces that occupied much of the central portion of the city. Our large ride meant we had to keep to the main thoroughfares, but the largest shops occupied those areas, anyway. None of the shops were the size of malls, but many occupied half a block and rose up three floors to tower over the cobblestone roads. Many advertised their wares on the wide walks that separated the shops from the streets, and all manner of food, clothing, and knickknacks enticed the throngs of tourists and citizens. Even I had to gape at the wide variety of goods, and the food smells that wafted out of the restaurants made my stomach rumble. In a good way. I noticed Landry focused his keen dark eyes on the crowds that thronged the streets.
