Ch 5: In Which He Acts Like a Lost Puppy

526 Words
Damien was a well-respected alpha, a ruthless one when it came to matters regarding his pack. He was also a good-looking man and he knew it, for he played with women like he invented the love-them-and-leave-them game… okay the expression that would best describe his lifestyle was wham bam thank you maam, for there was absolutely no love in the equation. Bed them and leave them was definitely more like it. So when one of his warriors told him he had sniffed an unfamiliar scent, he didn’t hesitate to ask him where it led, and take his second in command with him, ready to fight the threat off his territory. One could only imagine his surprise when he found a young she-wolf opening the door, and an even younger one, hidden in the closet. He didn’t need to touch her and feel the sparks to know he had finally met his mate. The scent was intoxicating, and he felt like an inebriated man – a very happy one too. So when she told them she would leave first thing in the morning, he couldn’t help but deny her that. He had not waited over sixty years for his mate, only for her to flee the territory out of fear of his damned reputation. He kept touching her lightly in the car for he simply couldn’t help it, and received a couple of weird-out glances from his beta, Kevin. After waiting so long for her, he had vowed not to be played a fool by his mate, if he ever were to mate a she-wolf or a human for that matter. Yet, here he was acting like a lost puppy in front of her, taking offense in how she didn’t actively respond to his feather-like caresses and didn’t even seem to appreciate them. If it weren’t for the scent of arousal coming from his sweet mate, he would have truly believed she was not affected by his touch, by his proximity, by him. It seemed like she wanted nothing to do with him, for despite her shy appearance, her tongue held a deadly venom. Already, he could picture her rejecting him. He’d have to convince her otherwise. And what better way to do that but shower her – hell, suffocate her, if need be – with affection and love. And the only way he could do that was if she stayed at his place. Her reaction to when he told her she would stay at his was not pretty. He didn’t expect it to be, if he were to be honest. And so he played the ruthless card, and told her he would separate her from her sister if push came to shove. He would never do that to her. He would never hurt her like that. He couldn’t possibly do it. But she didn’t know that, and thus he bluffed. And she fell for it. Step 1: Getting her under the same roof, check. Step 2: Gaining her love… to be continued.
