Chapter 10

Carolina?

It has been a week since I last saw her. My wolf was alert all the time. He was howling, making my job and Alpha duties almost impossible to do normally. All the time I found myself daydreaming about Carolina. Whenever my wolf projected an image of us kissing her, holding her in my arms I immediately remembered of what she was. These conflicted feelings and thoughts were getting on my nerves. I started to train more and went for long runs to make my wolf exhausted and get some peace. One day after my now usual run, I felt anger. I was walking in the Packhouse back to my room to get a shower. My wolf howled out loud and tried to get to the surface. I held my head with my hands and got terrified. He never fought so much against me. He never refused to answer or clarify his decisions. Rico saw my struggle on the Packhouse corridor.

- Jeremy? What's wrong with you? - he asked and I snarled falling onto my knees. I felt my wolf's real power while he fought himself to the surface. My eyes burned while they turned black and I heard how my voice changed when I answered to Rico.

- My mate is in danger. - my wolf said. This was the first time he spoke about Carolina as his mate and not ours.

- She is not only your mate Alpha. - Rico answered, but my wolf wasn't in mood for lectures. He grabbed Rico by his neck and pinned him against the wall. Rico's wolf came to the surface and they showed their neck in submission. I heard my wolf Ulric, saying.

- This pathetic human doesn't deserve her. But I want what is mine and she is in danger. Instead of talking nonsense, make yourself useful. - Rico nodded and Ulric let him go. He looked into our eyes and said.

- What do you want me to do Alpha? - Ulric didn't answer his question. Instead, I felt how our power was leaving our body. I got afraid and looked at Rico asking for help, but he didn't move his finger. I felt a slight connection with Carolina and how part of our power was given to her. I felt her fear, her confusion and disgust. Felt the pain in her head and wrists also the pain she felt on her hands. For a single second I could understand Ulric's anger. Carolina was surely in deep s**t. The feeling was gone and I stood motionless in the corridor looking at my hands. I saw a bit bruises disappearing and my eyes also turned back to normal. Ulric didn't say a word to me, just closed himself into the back of our mind. Rico approached me and put hus hand on my shoulder.

- Are you okay? - he asked and I looked into his eyes. He was worried and afraid. I shook my head.

- I don't know what happened. I felt her pain and anger. How? I rejected her... Yet Ulric is obsessed with that filthy human. She is a b***h! Why did the Moon Goddess gave me her? - I asked out loud. Rico shrugged and said.

- Probably to help you. - I started to laugh like a maniac.

- Help me with what?

- To be a less arrogant prick and a good man instead. - my eyes opened wide and his words felt like a slap across my face. Rico sighed.

-I love you like a brother and I'll always have your back Jeremy. But you have changed a lot lately and not for good. I think pairing you with her, and the fact that you can't reject her, is a good thing. - I shook my head and stormed to my room. I shut the door closed and groaned angrily before I grabbed a nearby glass and threw it against the wall. It shattered into million tiny pieces and O calmed a bit down. I sat on my bed and buried my face into my hands. I sighed.

- He has no idea what we have been through. - I mumbled and heard Ulric's voice in my mind.

"- That's true. But there are more important things than grief and revenge."

- You must have to be kidding about this. Ulric, you saw it with your own eyes what humans are capable of!

"- Yes. Although , just like not every werewolf is a heartless rouge, not every human is a monster."

- If I'd want a slut as my mate I've already chose one from the pack. - Ulric growled angrily.

"- Don't call her that!"

- You must face the truth. She is getting naked for money and does other stuff probably too. Our destined mate is a human b***h.

" - I'll warn you for the last time Jeremy. If you want to be the Alpha, stop talking about her like that. "

- Or what?

" - I'll abandon you. You'll become of what you hate the most. A pathetic, useless, weak human." - he disappeared in the corner of our mind and I felt a freezing shiver running down on my spine." He can't do that. We were born together. "- I thought, but to be honest I never knew we could give our strength to another. Maybe it would be better to keep an eye on her, just in case. That night I tossed and turned in my bed without a second of sleep. I sat up in anger and went for a run. I tried to find a solution for this situation. I don't want her as my mate and Luna, but I have to protect her for my Pack and for my title. I ran back when it was already dawn, only to run into Rico who just headed to his training.

- Morning Alpha! Is this a new habit? Starting the day with a refreshing run? - he asked playfully but I wasn't in a mood of his tiring humor.

- To my office Rico. - I said and he bowed his head following me to my office. I made a cup of coffee and drank it between two growls. Rico was standing in the middle of my office like a child who was caught red-handed.

-For the love of the Goddess sit down. - I said and he took a seat carefully, but the legs made a creaking sound and it caused me to snarl at him.

- Wow... You woke up woth the wrong foot today. - he said and I chuckled.

-Oh I only wish that! I haven't slept at all. Do you still have that dancer's number? - Rico smiled from ear to ear.

- Do you mean Cherry? The friend of your mate? - he asked and I threw the cup against the wall only to miss Rico's head by millimeters.

-Don't call her my mate. Call her by her name. The situation is that Ulric threatened me of leaving me if I don't protect her... So it is your task to keep me informed of Carolina's situation by keeping in touch with her friend. - Rico grinned and stood up,swiping off a few fake tears just like a Pageant Beauty.

- Oh Alpha... It is my pleasure! This is not a task it's a reward. - I groaned rolling my eyes.

- Get lost. - Rico winked and ran put of the office.

- I hope you are happy. - I said to Ulric and he answered.

- " Fine for a start." - This wolf and Rico will drive me crazy one day...
