Chapter 19

1278 Words
Silence before the storm Jeremy Rico kept visiting Cherry and getting information about Carolina. At the mean time my patrols noticed young wolves sneaking around our borders from time time. One day, I've been waiting for Rico to return when one of the Omegas knocked on my door. I knew who she was from her scent. - Come in Betsy! - I said and kept looking out of the window waiting for Rico's car. - I'm sorry to disturb you, Alpha. - I glanced at her and gave her a small smile to make her feel more comfortable. Betsy was really young, around eighteen, she just got her wolf. Betsy was remarkable. Sweet, kind and caring. She was really cute, her eyes and hair were both chocolate brown and her skin white as snow. Before I met Carolina and Ulric threatened me, I also considered to choose Betsy as my Luna. People adored and respected her, she found a way to talk to everyone and help them. Even if Ulric was constantly protesting, I still thought that Betsy could be a wonderful Luna. - You never disturb me, Betsy. What's the matter? - she blushed adorably and bowed her head to avoid my gaze. Betsy extended her hand and gave me an envelope. - This arrived just now, Alpha. The courier who brought it said that it is urgent. - I took the letter from her and opened it. It was an invitation to the Sunset Pack for an Alpha gathering. I hummed and Betsy asked softly. - May I ask what's the matter, Alpha? - I looked at her and got surprised. - What do you mean? - Betsy now looked into my eyes and swallowed hardly. - I just felt the sudden change in the atmosphere of the room and I thought maybe you were worried. - I smiled at her and shook my head. - I'm not. Don't worry. This is just an invitation. - Where? - she asked and I chuckled because of her innocence and curiosity. - An Alpha gathering. - It seems like you are not very pleased with it Alpha. - she said and I felt so comfortable talking to Betsy. She was born literally with a calming aura. Her presence made me forget about status. - It isn't mandatory but it is an unsaid obligation. I simply don't like to waste my time in this kind of events. But for the sake of the Pack, I must attend. That's all. - she seemed puzzled and suddenly gasped. - I'm really sorry if I crossed a line with my questions Alpha! - she said and started to hurry out of the room. Before she left I said. - Don't worry, I'll let you know if I have a problem. Thanks Betsy. - she bowed briefly and rushed out. I heard her mumble sorry and heavy footsteps walked into my room. - You have plenty of admirers dude! - Rico sais teasingly. I rolled my eyes and handed him the invitation. - She just brought me this. - Rico quickly read the letter and his face showed no expressions.I've decided to tease him a bit and also reveal a big secret of mine. - Actually, I was thinking of choosing Betsy as my mate. - I admitted and Ulric crawled in the back of my mind. Rico sighed and took a seat. - She is a great girl. Really young, but intelligent and sweet. - I got surprised. Rico fought so badly for Carolina and now he just said that. This gave me a really bad feeling. - What happened? - I asked and felt how my pulse accelerated. Rico looked at me and said. - Cherry just told me that they got invited to an exclusive party. She was so happy about it. Because with that p*****t they'll be able to fix her car. - I leaned against my desk and crossed my arms in front of my chest. Tried to pretend that I was calm. - This is a good thing no? - Rico glanced at the letter than at me. - They are going to this one. - I felt a knot in my throat. Ulric was pacing and growling at the fact that his mate will be surrounded by other wolves at a shady Pack. I didn't want to see Carolina, or be near her. But I felt the pull of the bond and the responsibility for her safety. I didn't want any Alpha to know that my mate is a human slut! "She isn't a slut!" - Ulric snarled at me in our mind and I growled. - This is such a f****d up situation! - I said and Rico sighed. - Yeah, I knew you'll feel this way. So what should we do? - my friend asked and I scratched the back of my neck. - Can't you just change her mind? - I asked desperately. Rico shook his head. - I've tried. I told Cherry that I know them and don't trust them. I even offered to pay for her car. Cherry said that the money isn't the only reason why they're going. - I felt ill for a second and the color ran out of my face when the worst case scenario crossed my mind. Rico violently shook his head and hands in the air. - No! Nothing like that! They're going to make connections with important people. Cherry needs them for her restaurant to have investors and wealthy clients. Carolina on the other hand... She just tries to break out of her life. - this sentence caught me out of guard. -What did you say? - I asked and Rico smiled. - Carolina wants to dance on Broadway. She needs influence and connections to get there. She just told me that before her grandmother got ill, she was a prodigy at a prestigious Dance academy. She had to drop out because she was taking care of her grandmother. After that she had no choice but move back to her parents. -" To the ones who hurt and used her!" - Ulric commented angrily. - I understand. Many girls who had a difficult background end up turning into strippers and sluts. I still don't know why the Moon Goddess paired me with such a despicable human. - Rico growled and stood up. - You know nothing. - What do you mean? - I asked and he looked at me with disgrace. - I've been visiting them a lot lately. I know Carolina and she would be the perfect person for the job. - What job? - I asked and felt the tension growing in the room. Rico showed his canines and I felt the hair stood up on my back. - To put you back down to earth. I don't know why you turned to be such a stubborn jerk, but maybe it's better if you just forget her. - Ulric came to the surface and grabbed Rico by his collar. Rico grinned and said. - I tell you this as your friend. She deserves better! - I felt like someone just hit me in the face. I released Rico. I walked to the window and sighed. - Send back my answer to Alpha Nicolas. We will attend his damn party. - I glanced back and saw my friend grinning from ear to ear. He grabbed the invitation and bowed to mock me while he said. - Yes, Alpha. - while he was walking put he said. - I hope one day you will trust me enough to tell me what you've been through.
