The joke is on me
Jeremy
We were driving for almost three hours already and I got an uneasy feeling. I hated to leave my Pack even if my third in command was strong, respected, and loyal till his bones. My Beta, Rico, joined me for this visit I had to pay to the Sunset Pack. They were a real pain in the ass. Their Alpha Nicolas is way too young to run a Pack and this causes a lot of problems for the rest of their neighborhood packs. A few of his young warriors thought that it would be a good idea to expand his territory and tried to kidnap she-wolves from my Pack. Obviously, they got their asses seriously kicked and sent home with broken bones. It was time to talk some common sense into Nicolas' head. Rico turned the music lower and sighed.
- I'm afraid we have to stop for the night. - he said and I growled.
- I don't want to stop. Let's just get over with this and go back home. - I said and Rico frowned turning the radio up again and I heard the news.
"We just got the breaking news! There is a huge storm coming to our state! We must ask all drivers to be extremely careful, honestly, it would be better if they stop somewhere because in less than a half-hour a huge snowstorm will hit our state." Rico lifted an eyebrow and I lifted my hands up in defeat.
- Fine! Let's stop at the next Pack's territory. - Rico cleared his throat and I groaned.
- What is it again? - he grinned.
- The closest Pack is the Sunset Pack and the travel there would take another three hours... - I felt my eyes getting wide.
- No. - I shook my head and Rico's smile got bigger while he turned on a small road. He drove into a tiny human town and parked the car at the first motel.
- That must be some kind of sick joke of the Goddess. - I mumbled and Rico clearly enjoyed my suffering.
- There is no other option. In my opinion, we must make the best out of the situation. - he added and I saw his gaze end on a club.
- Listen. There is absolutely no way to get me in there. You know very well how much I hate humans. - Rico rolled his eyes.
- Yeah Mr. Bigot. I know that you think we are a better species than them. I knew you since we were pups but still have no idea from where this hatred comes. - he said while we got out of the car and walked into the motel. I didn't answer his question. I'll take that secret with me to the grave. We checked in to a room with two separated beds and my idea was to order some pizza, go to sleep early and head to the Sunset Pack. Well, my plans were ruined by Rico who kept irritating me with that club.
- Come on Jeremy! You used to be funny! What happened? - I glanced at him. He was a few years younger than I. He inherited his mother's exotic features, darker skin, black hair, brown eyes. Rico was my complete opposite in many ways that is why our dynamics as Alpha and Beta worked so well. When I didn't answer he started to walk up and down looking pensive.
- Something must happen when your father sent you to that Alpha camp. Since that summer you act weird. - he said I threw a pillow against him and got up from my bed.
- I just grew up. You should try it sometime. - Rico mimicked me saying that and I couldn't help but laugh at the faces he made. He walked to me and grabbed my hands shaking them like a child when he wants something from the store.
- Please!!! Let's go just for an hour. If you don't enjoy it we are coming back and I won't say another word! - I sighed.
- Why don't you just go alone?
- I don't want to look desperate. If I go to a burlesque club alone that sucks. If we go together that is a boys' night out! You shouldn't leave a friend in trouble. - he said and acted hurt I punched him in his shoulder gently and said.
- You are the trouble! Fine... One hour. - Rico smiled and ran to fix his hair. We walked across the street and entered the club. It was filled with different kinds of men. Older, younger, rich, poor, sober drunk. All of them were humans and their smell drove me crazy. My wolf also growled in my mind getting fed up but I reminded him of our promise. We had to survive only an hour. As we walked deeper into the club the smell of alcohol, sweat, and typical human scent mixed up with cheap perfume and hairspray. We sat down and ordered some drinks. I sent my shot down immediately hoping that if I consume enough alcohol I'll bare better this place. We watched the girls dancing and drinking. Rico was amazed by a dancer so he decided to leave me alone and ask for her number. After I was left alone I got up and decided to leave. Enough is enough, but when I turned my back to the stage the most exquisite scent hit my nose. I couldn't help but take a big, deep breath. It was refreshing, exactly like the falling rain that washes all the troubles away and leaves the air fresh and cool once it's over. I didn't want to turn around, since my gut told me what is the only thing that could smell like the thing I loved the most. But my wolf took over control and he forced me to turn around, that was when I saw her. She was the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. A voice announced her as Carolina. She walked out for the rhythm of the music swaying her hips and jumped on the pole. She turned around holding herself with only her sexy, long legs. Men whistled and my wolf growled inside. She twisted and turned her hips and waist, laid on the dance floor, and did a split slowly making more men throw her money. Her curves made every men heart flatter, the way she smiled, oh Goddess. Our eyes met and I felt my knees getting weak. She wore almost nothing and danced using the pole in the center of the stage to a provocative song and men in the club threw money in front of her. She locked her eyes with mine and while the song went on she mouthed the lyrics and danced giving all her passion into her performance.
" Tonight is the night, where I make you see that I can be anything, anything, anything you want from me." The music stopped and I felt sick in my stomach. She was my mate... A human... A striper woman. I had to get out of here, now. I stood up and went for the search of Rico. I have to get away from this girl before I do something I'll regret forever. My wolf protested against leaving our mate there exposed to all those strangers but I was determined to leave her alone and not only for tonight.
