Seven days without the sound of that baton as my wakeup call will never be long enough. “Wake the f**k up you lazy assholes,” Commander asshat slammed his baton against the metal bars of our bunks. “You’ve got to be f*****g kidding me,” Gunner groaned, his voice laced with sleepiness. The sound of metal clacking against bone followed by a shrill scream had me stifling laughter. “You’ll shut the f**k up if you don’t want me to do that again,” the commander growled. As much as I hated the man, watching him halt Gunner’s whining always brought me joy. My body felt stiff as I climbed down from my bunk, but after a quick roll of my neck and shoulders, it was bearable.
