AMOS
“Get the pack doctor, now!” My order made everyone scramble in fear.
Everything in me screams rage. My mate was barely breathing in my arms, and it was all my fault. I should have never let her go back to this place.
Her family looked at me in complete fear. I wanted to kill them myself, but Clarity’s safety was my priority.
“Alpha, we’ve contacted the pack doctor, but bringing her back to the pack house would be faster. Please calm down,” Patrick cautiously approached me.
I didn’t respond and quickly brought Clarity’s unconscious body to the car. It wasn’t the most comfortable way to transport her, but it was the only way to get her immediate care.
Clarity suddenly groaned as if in extreme pain. My guilt quickly grew seeing her condition. Why does it have to be her? Why does everyone who is remotely involved in my life end up in pain?
It didn’t take long for us to arrive. I transferred Clarity as gently as I could and brought her straight to my room, ignoring everyone who bombarded me with questions about why I was carrying an unconscious omega.
She gasped again, squirming on the bed while tears streamed down her face. My hands trembled. Amidst all the mixed emotions I was feeling, one emotion stood out: rage.
Someone suddenly entered, not bothering to knock in their rush. He quickly approached Clarity, triggering my instincts. I snapped at him, refusing to let him near my mate.
He quickly backed away and lowered his head. “I’m the doctor you called, Alpha. I apologize for not introducing myself earlier, but I won’t be able to help the lady if you don’t let me.”
The doctor’s calm explanation quickly dispersed my anger. Even my wolf relented but remained vigilant.
Feeling a bit embarrassed by my actions, I stepped back. “I’m sorry. Please, see what’s wrong with her. She lost consciousness and was groaning in pain.”
He took Clarity’s hand, checking her pulse and examining her body for any injuries.
“You two are mated, aren’t you? Your actions were completely normal. I’ve encountered hundreds of scenarios like this. Mates tend to be very protective when their significant other is ill or in pain. It’s part of our nature,” he explained, continuing to observe Clarity as I began to understand my feelings.
Turning to me, he asked, “Alpha, can you please help me turn the lady onto her side? I need to check something.” He didn’t touch her without my consent.
I quickly obliged and gently laid Clarity on her side. What I saw immediately made me regret not having acted more harshly towards her family members earlier. I hadn’t noticed it before in my panic, but her back bore several scars—some fading, others fresh and barely healing.
“From what I see, she is severely underweight, and as you can tell, her body has endured physical harm... countless times. She may have lost consciousness due to shock, and her body is struggling to cope with this treatment. Being an omega, her healing process is slower than most. Please ensure she eats properly once she wakes up. I’ll send ointment for the wounds on her back and medication to aid her recovery. Also, if it is possible. It would be good if you could stay here and let her scent you. Your presence alone will definitely calm and make her feel better.”

Clarity’s sister quickly grabbed the bars as soon as she saw me. There was hope in her eyes, which only irritated me. They were thrown into the dungeons where we keep the prisoners. The women were kept in the same cell, while my beta was in a separate cell right next to his wife and daughter. They were already in this situation, and yet this woman still didn’t understand what she had done wrong.
“Alpha, please reconsider. You must be mistaken. There was no way the Goddess mated you with that useless omega.”
My remaining patience quickly snapped, and I saw red. I grabbed her neck with clear spite.
“You have no right to insult my mate,” I snarled, barely able to hold my wolf in place.
Finally, I saw fear in her eyes. She trembled, completely helpless. Tears streamed from her eyes, but I couldn’t feel any remorse, not when I knew perfectly well what kind of treatment they had all been giving to Clarity.
They all deserved to die.
“A-alpha, please forgive my daughter’s insolence.” Camille’s mother immediately got on her knees and pleaded for her daughter’s life.
I live my life constantly fighting for dominance with my own wolf, but this is one of the times when I just want to let it go and let my wolf take over when all of what I would inevitably do seems justified.
I could have done it already, but Clarity’s voice kept echoing in my mind, completely stopping me from losing control.
“You were ready to kneel and beg for this woman’s life, but you abused and discarded your other daughter as if she were nothing. Clarity is your daughter, too—flesh and blood, isn’t she? Despite everything you did to her, she still pleaded for your pathetic lives without hesitation. You don’t deserve any of her sympathy,” I uttered as I loosened my grip on her neck, making her drop to the dungeon floor. I made sure every word was ingrained in her brain. The arrogance in her eyes was finally gone, and all I could see was fear and, hopefully, regret.
All three of them couldn’t answer me, knowing that nothing they said could appease my anger.
I then looked at Clarity’s father. “I expel you from being a beta and oust your family. You don’t have a place in my pack.”
“N-no. Please, Alpha. Please give us another chance. We made a grave mistake. Please let us correct it.” Morris pleaded this time. He was well aware of what would happen to them if they were thrown out of the pack and branded as traitors, but I didn’t care.
I snarled at him, “Do you think I’ll believe you? I saw the look you gave your daughter the day of the gathering. You don’t care about her. Remember this, all three of you: the only reason I’m sparing your worthless lives is because my mate asked me to. You have no idea how much I want to wring your necks, and it still wouldn’t be enough to pay for everything you did to her. You owe your worthless lives to the woman you hurt endlessly.”
I saw horror in their eyes, but it only flared my rage.
“Patrick,” I called one of my guards.
“Yes, Alpha?” the man quickly responded. He was one of my most trusted guards. Contrary to my father’s belief that everyone remained loyal to him, there were individuals who had already committed their allegiance to me after they discovered I was not his biological son, marking the beginning of a new era of rule. I don’t trust most of them, but Patrick has been on my side ever since we were young. He is the only person in the council that I actually trust at the moment.
“Throw them away and make sure that Clarity doesn’t find out,” I ordered without any second thoughts. My voice was still rough and heavily influenced by my wolf.
“Are you sure?” he asked with worry, but I still glared at him.
He heaved a sigh but heeded my command. “It will be done.”
I could hear their loud pleas, asking for another chance and apologizing for the mistake they had made. All were blatantly ignored until I reached outside. I took a deep breath until my eyes could go back to normal. Suppressing my instincts was never easy. My wolf has always been very stubborn and violent, always pushing me to the edge. But it was different whenever I was with my mate. Clarity was my sanctuary. She was the peace that I never thought I could have.
Clarity wouldn’t like what I did to her family, but no one would take me seriously if I went against my own orders. It was also for her own safety. If it weren’t for her, I would have done something worse.
Before I realized it, I was already in front of the room Clarity was currently occupying. She had been moved here a day ago. I gazed at the door silently, lost in my own thoughts, for several minutes. A rare emotion suddenly washed over me—fear of letting someone down. Having endured ample criticism throughout my life, I had grown immune to feelings of shame or disappointment in myself.
Until now.
I was about to knock on the door when Patrick appeared beside me. “It’s already handled… I arrived at a bad time, didn’t I?” he suddenly realized and halted his report.
“No. I’ll talk to her tomorrow... or some other day.” The confidence I had been trying to build up before facing Clarity again was completely shattered.
“You’re literally going to be married in a week. When is that next time? She’ll misunderstand if you keep doing that.”
Patrick only grinned after I glared at him for the second time today. Sometimes, I wondered if it was wise to have a person like him around.
I didn’t respond and walked away, but I heard him murmur, “I forgot how bashful he could be.”
“I heard that.”
