CLARITY
Soft and warm.
I can’t remember the last time I felt this comfortable. All these years of staying in the servant quarters did a number on my body. I couldn’t help but hum in delight, not wanting to open my eyes at all.
Surely, this was a dream.
“I love this dream,” I murmured. This wasn’t the first time I had dreamed of a soft and comfortable bed, but this one seemed special.
My body instinctively moved closer to the warmth I felt. The soft scent was very calming, just like how I imagined what running in the woods in a soft rain would smell like.
“This isn’t a dream, Clarity.” I heard a familiar, stern voice. The scent grew seemingly familiar, too.
Reality quickly hit me as I opened my eyes. Alpha Amos mirrored my position, looking at me with intensity in his eyes, just like the first time we ever laid eyes on each other.
I backed away after getting over my surprise, not considering that I was in a proper bed, which was way higher than I was used to. I moved too far and shrieked when I fell.
A wave of warmth enveloped me, the same as how I felt earlier.
“Are you okay?”
I opened my eyes again and realized no pain came because the Alpha cushioned my fall.
That’s it. I don’t know how I survived, but now, I’m really dead.
“I-I’m really sorry!” I exclaimed with fear and tried to stand, but his hold on me tightened just enough for me not to move around.
“Calm down and stop squirming. You passed out, and you might get dizzy again.” He instructed, almost scolding me, but I couldn’t help but feel confused by how he acted. Maybe it’s because I haven’t had someone show care for my well-being, too.
Alpha Amos gently rolled to the side, stood, and offered a hand. I was still alienated by all of this, but I was really not in the position to refuse the Alpha’s help.
“I apologize for the inconvenience… but may I ask what happened? I can’t recall how I ended up here.” I didn’t dare ask why we’re in the same bed because I don’t think I’m ready for that yet.
He stared at me for a moment. Just like the last time we met, I couldn’t read his expression, and it was more terrifying that way.
“Your family didn’t heed my command. They didn’t make your sister go and even had you assume her identity. It took me a few hours to figure out how they treated you. They all deserve to die.” His voice quickly melded with that of his wolf, sending terror down to my very core.
Recollections of how we were caught rushed back to my mind, along with a renewed fear for our lives. I didn’t think twice and dropped to my knees.
“Please forgive us. My family was just looking out for my sister.” I uttered the truth, though hearing it from myself made me feel even more miserable.
The Alpha let out a deep growl as if trying to contain himself. My initial fear turned into concern. I raised my gaze, and his eyes were already gleaming with anger.
His wolf’s eyes were different. Alphas, from what I know, should have golden eyes, yet his were the color of blood. My logical mind continued reminding me that I should be afraid, but the mate bond said otherwise.
“What about you, then? They hurt and used you, Clarity,” Alpha Amos pointed out, worsening the heartache even more.
I bit my lip to compose myself. “They’re my family. They might not be perfect, but they’re all I have. Please, Alpha, have pity on them. I’ll do anything.”
After blurting that out, I quickly realized that ‘anything’ wasn’t something I could offer, especially to someone like him. I could only think of one thing at the moment. It was painful, but I knew that this was where it would lead anyway.
“I don’t have much to offer, but I know that the only reason why I was brought here is because of our bond. I would accept your rejection wholeheartedly. I won’t speak of it to anyone if that’s what you want. Please, just spare them.”
A mate bond wouldn’t break without both parties consenting to it. Even if he rejected me countless times, the bond would exist until I accepted it. The mate bond exists even in death, making it feel like a part of you dies when your mate does.
To my surprise, he suddenly joined me on the ground. No Alpha should kneel unless to profess surrender, yet one was kneeling with me.
I could feel his struggle to ground himself as if he was having trouble controlling his wolf.
“I never said I would reject you.” He uttered and growled.
There was relief when I heard his remark, but I also lost my only bargaining chip.
He pulled me close. I was a little startled but didn’t resist as I didn’t feel threatened at all. Maybe I should be, but for a moment, he looked more terrified than I did.
Negotiating suddenly went out the window. It was my turn to get closer and embrace him. I don’t know what I was doing, but I know what it feels like to lose control of your body, to feel weak, and to be unable to do anything about it.
He took deep breaths until his breathing finally steadied. The moment he calmed down, my heart also felt a lot calmer.
Alpha Amos slowly withdrew from our embrace. I realized that both of us were still slumped to the floor. His eyes had yet to return to normal, but he looked more composed than he had earlier.
“Your family is alive.”
A wave of relief quickly embraced me. I smiled in pure gratitude, “Thank you. Thank you so much.”
“You said you would do anything for me to spare your family, correct?”
I didn’t hesitate and nodded, “Yes. Anything that I can do.”
“Then marry me, Clarity. Be my Luna.”
