Chapter 10

1409 Words
~Third Person~ It’s so dark and nothing can be seen. If only Brooklyn had her wolf, she thought. She would have been able to mindlink someone to help her and she would be able to see in the darkness that surrounds her. Unbeknownst to the driver of the car, there was an extra passenger that they hadn’t intended on. Brooklyn had been quietly following the couple as they walked through the woods. She made sure that she stayed far enough behind the couple and that her scent couldn’t carry. She also made sure to rub herself down with a leaf that she knows can aid in masking scents. It only works for her since she doesn’t have her wolf and her scent isn’t very strong yet. Kehlani has been training Brooklyn. To be fair, Brooklyn begged Kehlani to start teaching her the ways of an Alpha. There is no guarantee that Brooklyn will take over the pack, but she admires Kehlani greatly and wants to be like her. She sees Kehlani as smart, strong, and beyond capable and she could do worse than turn out like her when she gets older. Kehlani has been teaching her how to track and remain unseen when needed. Who would have guessed that her training would come in handy at this point in her life? Brooklyn can feel the bumps in the road as the car travels. She didn’t intend to end up in the trunk, but it was open and that was the only place she could end up that was discreet. It was just her luck that Daniel received a phone call when he did and, even more her luck, when she could hear the other wolves coming towards them. If not for that, she probably would have been found out and who knows what would have happened to her then. She hated that Melanie was knocked out because it would have been easier to untie her or get her out of the backseat. They would have been able to run away and hide. Brooklyn has no idea why Daniel did this to Melanie. Isn’t he supposed to be her mate? Shouldn’t the mate bond keep him from treating her in this way? There is clearly something she is missing and it worries her immensely. Brooklyn has no idea how long they have been on the road and has no way to tell what direction they are going in. She couldn’t help but to think about her dad and Kehlani. How worried they will be when they realize that they can’t find her and have no idea where she went. They will be looking for both her and Melanie. If she isn’t with them or Stacy, she is always with Melanie. She hopes that they can somehow come for them and save them, but how could that happen? Neither herself nor Melanie know where they are going. As Brooklyn is lost in her thoughts, she realizes that the car has come to a halt. She isn’t sure if it is a temporary stop or if they have finally reached their destination. If they have stopped for good, would Brooklyn be found out? Would she be able to get herself out of the trunk and go get help for Melanie? As Brooklyn is contemplating what to do next, the trunk door pops. Brooklyn starts to breathe heavier and her heart starts to beat wildly in her chest. The trunk opens all the way and Daniel looks shocked to see her there. “F**k! How the hell did you get in here?” Brooklyn looks at Daniel, but doesn’t make a move or a sound. There is nothing she could do that would benefit her in this instance. She needs to remain alive and she isn’t completely convinced that Daniel wouldn’t kill her if he felt it to be necessary. Daniel reaches into the trunk and uses one hand to grab the back of Brooklyn’s neck and the other hand grabs a few zip ties. Daniel yanks Brooklyn out of the trunk and pushes her on the ground, face down. “You stupid brat. You should have gone inside like you said you were. Now I will have to figure out how to get rid of you too.” Too?! Get rid of Brooklyn too? It is starting to dawn on Brooklyn that Melanie is not meant to survive this little excursion. Daniel had intended to kill Melanie, but why? Why kill the person that the Moon Goddess blessed you with? Her mom and dad were fated mates and while her mom left them both, she never tried to kill her dad. Brooklyn feels her arms being yanked and pulled behind her. She can feel something being placed on her wrists and pulled tightly. Daniel grabs her under her arms and pulls her to her feet. “If you run, I will catch you and slit Melanie’s throat in front of you before doing the same to you.” The fear is spreading throughout Brooklyn’s body and she can sense that Daniel is not exaggerating. She is pushed up against the side of the car and she doesn’t move a muscle. She watches Daniel pull open the back door. He leans in with zip ties and moves around a bit. She imagines that he is placing the tie on Melanie’s wrist like he just did to her. Daniel moves out of the backseat and bends down to put a zip tie around Melanie’s ankles. She is still out and doesn’t move or make a sound. Daniel pulls Melanie out and tosses her over his shoulder. He slams the car door and pulls her behind him. Brooklyn finally takes a look at her surroundings. They seem to be in the woods and there is a big house in front of them. It looks run down as if no one has lived in it for a long time. Some of the windows on the second floor are busted open and there are shutters hanging by a thread. The grass is dead and there are a lot of areas of overgrown weeds. The paint is peeling all around the building. Brooklyn wonders how long this house has been abandoned. She also wonders if there are other people in that house waiting for them to walk in. As they get closer to the door, the fear in Brooklyn gets stronger and stronger. She has no idea what to expect and It is driving her crazy. Daniel kicks the door open and the room smells disgusting. It is a mix of dirt, must, and death. There has to be dead animals in here somewhere and they had to have been sitting there for a while. Brooklyn can only look around the room and hope that she doesn’t see anyone. If she had her wolf, she would be able to decipher the different scents in the room. Daniel walks through the front room and into the kitchen. If the outside looks bad, the kitchen is worse. There are missing tiles around the room that look to be from the floor as well as the counters. There is dirt, leaves, and dead bugs all over the floor. There are stains that look like they could be blood. In the corners of the room, there are dead rat bodies along with dead birds. Brooklyn hopes this is not their final destination. She is correct because they continue to walk through the kitchen and stop at a door on the left. Daniel opens the door and flips a switch on the wall. A light flickers a few times before it comes on. Daniel starts to walk and Brooklyn can see a flight of stairs in front of them that leads down into more darkness. The light only illuminates the stairs and not much else. When they reach the bottom of the stairs, Daniel drops Melanie on the floor. He tosses her as if she is a bag of clothes or trash, not once worrying about the damage that might be caused by his actions. He pushes Brooklyn over to where Melanie is lying. Brooklyn falls over Melanie and hits her head on the wall behind them. Daniel stands up straight and starts to walk over to the two, but steps on the stairs stop him. “Who are you?” Daniels stands up straight and turns towards the stairs. “Malachi?”
