Chapter 7: Todd’s Rampage Continues

1264 Words
Once Todd was finished speaking, he bowed slightly to Eve, thanked her for keeping him company in his previous life, and said, "Let's get to know each other again. My name is Todd, and I love you. Please, give me the opportunity to prove that my intentions are good.” A moment passed in complete silence. Everyone in the classroom was stunned, and when Eve did not reply right away, Todd took it as permission to gently kiss her soft cheek. Then he whispered something in her ear and left without hesitation. As Todd passed through the hallway, the mechanical voice in his mind spoke up. It said, “Congratulations to the host. Pretentious has received a reward: Slap-Face Numerical Value: 10,000 Todd was incredibly happy to hear this voice again. The last time that he had heard it, fantastic strength and fighting skills had been bestowed upon him. He wondered if he would be receiving any other rewards this time. When nothing happened right away, he returned to his car. He had an automobile accident to prevent. Todd drove extremely fast, and in a matter of minutes, he arrived in Cameron Heights, which was the richest neighborhood in Edmonton. From there, he could see his family business, D.S.G. Unlimited, which was his next stop. He had dealt with Zachery Douglass and Elmo Varges, but now it was time to cut off the snake’s head. It was time for Jarod Douglass to go down!   Todd parked in the parking lot in front of the building and got out of the car, and when he looked at the skyscraper in front of him, his emotions caught him off guard. In his past life, he had taken D.S.G. Unlimited for granted. In fact, he had never even been in the building. Now that he realized how much it meant to him and his father, though, he was determined to keep it in the family. Finally, he took a deep breath, forced himself to smile, and walked towards the front entrance. As Todd passed through the doors, it occurred to him that he did not know anything about D.S.G. Unlimited. His parents hardly ever talked to him about the company. It is as if they are deliberately keeping it from me – he thought. That seemed very strange to him. There was a security desk in the foyer, and one of the guards came around it to greet him. He smiled and kindly asked to see Todd’s access card. "I don’t have one," Todd admitted. “I’m sorry.” The guard frowned and asked Todd to leave. In Todd's previous life, he would have quarreled with the guard, but his past experiences had taught him to be more tactful. He could cause a ruckus, but it would be a waste of time, and time was the one thing he was short on right now. He smiled and said, “If you insist, I will leave. But, my name is Todd Bower, and Aaron Bower is my father. Does that change anything?" “It does not,” the guard replied. “I don’t know you, and who you are changes nothing – no card, no access. Please leave now.” Todd’s calm demeanor crumbled. “You will regret this,” he said. “I am in a position to have you fired, and you won’t even let me past the foyer. Now get out of my way! I have business with Jarod Douglass." The guard’s face turned red from anger. "How dare you address our CEO by his common name?” he growled. “I am seriously considering teaching you a lesson!” Todd glared at the security guard. The man had not flinched when he said his father’s name, but he had flipped out when he said Jarod’s name. Why does he give Jarod more respect than he gives my father? – he wondered – Is it possible that he has a part to play in the Big Takeover that was scheduled to take place the next day? Todd was about to fight the guard when he remembered that he had Zachery's phone. He pulled it out of his pocket, dialed Jarod's number, and as soon as the call was accepted, he said, "This is Todd. I am downstairs. Come and greet me." When he was done speaking, he ended the call, put the phone back in his pocket, and went to wait by the entrance. The security guards eyed him warily. It seemed that they were no longer as certain as they had been a moment earlier. Two minutes passed, and then the elevator dinged. The doors opened and Jarod Douglass walked out. He had a huge smile on his face, and he appeared to be genuinely happy to see Todd. “What an exciting surprise!” he exclaimed. “I never would have expected to see you here!” “I happened to be in the neighborhood,” Todd explained. He was amazed by Jarod’s performance. If he did not know better, he would have believed that he was actually happy to see him. This man should be acting in Hollywood – he thought – By now, he would have at least a dozen Oscars! “I thought that I might be able to get a tour of my father’s company.” “And rightly you should! Now that we are creating a board of directors, it is about time that you got to know our shareholders. Shall we start right away?" “I have something to deal with first," Todd replied. "Don't worry, we will get to the tour.” Jarod nodded and said nothing as Todd approached the security desk. Todd looked at the man who had accosted him and said, "Do you still want to stop me?" The security guard was silent.   A shark-like Cheshire’s grin appeared on Todd’s face and he said, "I think you will remember me next time. My name is Todd Bower, and my father is Aaron Bower. He is the king of D.S.G. Unlimited, and that makes me the prince. You have disrespected me, and I cannot let that go unpunished. Your partner will slap you 100 times." The security guard was very scared. He looked at Jarod for help, but Jarod just frowned and said, “You heard him. Now take your medicine like a man.” Almost immediately, the second bodyguard began to slap him, alternating between his two cheeks. Todd watched them with great interest. In the beginning, the slaps were light, but he threatened them: “If you don’t put some power behind those slaps, you will have to start over.” After that, the exhibition was more exciting to watch, and some of the other staff gathered to watch the spectacle.   The crowd had begun to gleefully count each slap: “thirty-six, thirty-seven, thirty-eight…” The punishment was not even half over, and the guard’s face was swollen and red. There were tears running down his face, and he yelped every time that he was struck. “I’m sorry,” he blubbered. “I m-m-meant no d-disrespect.” Idly, Todd wondered if the guard’s skin would break soon. That would be exciting – he thought. By now, he had determined that, at least this guard, was in cahoots with the Douglass Family.
