CHAPTER 1
CHAPTER 1
HANNAH'S POV
I hated this new town that my parents forced me to move into. It was nothing like my old town. In my old town, I was living life. I was in a girl squad with girls from my social class. We literally run our High School, from having the latest expensive cars to having all the trending outfits and the most expensive Designer perfumes.
My parents are rich business people who gave me the life of my dreams.
As a matter of fact, during Summer, my girls and I spent our holiday travelling to Africa . Our next travel destination was going to be Iceland but the plans had to be cancelled because my parents forced me to move without giving me a clear reason . Heck, I am still resentful towards thm even if it's two months down the line. They robbed me of my teenage years. Sometimes I wish that I could have turned 16 already, before the move. I hated the fact that my parents controlled me.
My birthday is actually in a couple of days and this makes me so excited. This is the silver lining to all my problems. Once I attain that legal age, I would be free to make my own decisions and the first thing I will do is to move back to my old town.
I hate this town, especially the High School that I was going to since I was not lucky to find any friends.
My parents keep telling me to befriend anyone because they will be attracted to how wealthy our family is but so far I never managed to find someone.
I am always by myself. I am always in solitude.
"So, why am I here, dad?" I asked after my dad called me to join him in the living room that Sunday afternoon after interrupting me from my self-care routine.
Seated right across him was a man who seemed to be in his early thirties. I didn't bother so much about him. Besides, I was not here because of him. I was here for my dad.
"I want you to meet Nick Murphy. Nick here will be your personal bodyguard from now moving forward,"He said and I lost it.
"Are you out of your mind?" I asked my dad who drew his eyebrows up in confusion.
"We are doing this for you. We want you to be safe. We need to beef up our security. We are wealthy and that makes us a target. " My dad explained but I could not take it anymore.
"I know what you are doing dad! I am not a kid anymore. I am not at risk. I don't need a bodyguard. . I know that you are hiring him so that he can follow me around and report to you guys. You are doing this to control me," I shouted before walking out of the room huffing and puffing in anger.
I went to the garden to take a breather. My parents like trying me. Do they think that they can make up for their poor parenting by getting someone to follow me around?
"Hi ma'am? Do you need anything? I am at your service," I heard the guy say after coming to stand in front of me and his actions pissed me even more. Does he think that what he is doing is okay?
"I don't want anything to do with you!" I made it so clear to him.
"Ma'am but I am just doing my job,"He said.
"You know what, you and my parents can go to hell. I want nothing to do with you!" I said with so much finality before leaving and going to my bedroom.
The next morning as I was leaving for school, I found Nick waiting for me. He wanted to drive me to school.
"I know how much you hate this but trust me, I am here to protect you. Nothing more,"He said and I rolled my eyes before getting into the car. I was not in the mood to argue with him.
This is what happens every single day until two weeks later when I decided to give it a chance. Nick had proven to be handy. He ensured that I got my iced tea from Java every single morning, and my chicken wings from KFC. He was literally at my service.
The two of us became friends pretty quickly and before I knew it, I was comfortable telling him about how my parents were never there for me. They were travelling all the time and I just wanted to get my freedom so that I could be away from them.
"Don't you think that what they are doing is out of love?" Nick asked as he drove me home.
"Well, they are selfish. They only care about themselves. Plus, you are my friend and therefore you should not be defending them. Wait, did they send you to convince me to allow them to control my life?" I asked.
"No, of course not. " he said.
"I hate them. You should hate them too since we are friends,"I said.
"My bad, I am sorry,"He apologised with a small smile playing on his lips.
"You are the only person I like at the moment. I am glad that you are here with me,"I never knew that it would get a time that I would say this to Nick, but it did.
"Your birthday is in a few days…" I was glad that he remembered.
"Yea, I can't wait to celebrate it and run away from home. I want my freedom so badly." I was honest with him.
"What about me?" He asked. Well, I had not thought about him.
"Since you are my friend, you can come with me if you want," I told him and he smiled.
"Thank you Hannah," He said.
"Anytime. Anything for you Nick," I said.
"By the way, where were you working before you started working for me? You have hardly talked about yourself," I asked.
"My life is complicated Hannah. Once I get more clarity on certain things, I will tell you about it,"He said this and I respected his answer.
Well, if I knew that Nick had secrets to hide then I would have cancelled him at that point in time.
