Chapter 10: TRIAL AND ERROR

** MAX'S POV **

I felt warm lips on my forehead with a good morning kiss which was not from the person who usually does it. I opened my eyes to find my DAD with a smile on his face. This took me by surprise coz he never does anything like this! I rubbed my eyes to shake off my still sleepy eyes thinking 'Maybe this is all just a dream.' Only it was not.

I came down to find Maria and Eva in the kitchen. I signaled Maria to come to the pool area once I was done with breakfast. It is time to come up with another plan! We got everything ready to set the plan into motion. 

The first step was to get my dad into panic mode (which trust me is a chore in itself).

I came back into the house with Maria once we were ready to execute our plan. Maria went to the kitchen and told Eva to check on me. Eva came to me while Maria was in the kitchen adding the 'secret' ingredient to today's breakfast.

Once Dad came down, we sat at the table and had our breakfast talking about plans on which school I should join and what are my interests. I saw my dad beginning to sweat and feeling uncomfortable holding his stomach and rushing to the washroom. He came out only to rush back in. This continued for about an hour when my dad was almost out of breath with his trousers hanging on his shoulders, loosened tie, and his shirt's top 4 buttons unbuttoned. A chuckle threatened to escape my lips which I had to forcefully stop coz otherwise Dad and Eva would have found out who the culprit is.

I could hear Eva laughing once Maria took me out to the garden area unaware that she was going to be the target of the wrath that my dad was about to unleash. 

** EVA'S POV **

I came to Dan's mansion a bit later than usual. I found that Max is all ready and Maria told me how Dan woke Max up. Hearing this warmed my heart. Max came to the dinning and went to the pool area with Maria to play a bit while I busied myself with preparing breakfast. Max and Maria came inside the house after about a good half hour. Max plopped on the dining table chair while Maria came to help me saying Max is asking for me. I sat with Max and my back facing the kitchen.

Once Dan came down the stairs we sat and had breakfast. Since Max is 4 years it was time, that he started schooling so I picked up the topic with Dan asking him to find out about the schools that were around and ones where Max's friends were going to join so that he can feel comfortable.

Dan started sweating bullets when he was done with breakfast and rushed to the washroom clutching his stomach. He came out in 5 min only to rush back in, this went on for a good hour when he finally came out with his trousers on his shoulders and very much out of breath. I asked Maria to take Max to the garden area. I rushed to Dan to check up on him, but Dan being Dan he snapped at me saying "What the hell did you mix in my breakfast? I know you f*****g wanna take revenge on me, I will not forgive you for this!".

I glared at him pointing my finger at his chest saying "Look I didn't do anything OK! And why would I do anything to risk my job? Although I love the idea of taking my revenge on you, I f*****g have the guts to say it out loud when I have actually done something, which I haven't. Looking at the way you are snapping I say you deserve what happened."

Dan steps closer fuming with anger only to rush back to the washroom which made me laugh uncontrollably. 'THE GREAT DAN SPENCE's place of comfort now was a mere washroom. Oh, how the mighty have fallen!'.

I get the medicine from the first aid kit when Dan came out. He snatched it mumbling cursing under his breathtaking the medicine nonetheless. It was pitiful looking at the way he was groaning, huffing and puffing. But what he said, in the end, made my eyes bulge out. 

** DAN'S POV **

I decided to try to change for Max's sake. What Eva said to me kind of hit home run with me. So, for a change, I woke up Max with a good morning kiss and made him freshen up. After Max was ready, I went to my room to freshen up. I came down for breakfast and found Max at the table along with Eva and Maria. Everything was so perfect this morning.

But this peace broke when my stomach stirred badly after breakfast making me rush to the washroom. It took all my energy to stand after an hour of pacing to the bathroom repeatedly. Max looked a bit worried so Eva had Maria take him to the garden area and came up to me looking worried. The whole situation smelled fishy so I ended up accusing her without thinking.

Hearing her laugh made me even more pissed but could do nothing. She handed me medicine trying to suppress her laughter looking at her I said "I swear if you don't stop laughing, I am going to kiss those lips. Let’s see who laughs then". Her eyes bulged out and she was gaping dumbfounded with her mouth opening and closing like a fish. For the first time, she didn't have any comeback neither any sassy comments nor any insolent talk. I was mentally patting my back to finally get her to stop talking.

I called Leo and told him to take care of all the meetings scheduled today. Not having the energy to stand up properly I staggered my way to my room and lied down on my bed. The medicine took effect and I was all better in a couple of hours.
