The Destiny of Nexus

Chapter-2

                                         It’s a ten-minute drive to my company from Corner store cafe. After the phone call, I headed to my firm directly. My company’s infrastructure is attractive and tremendous. It is so comfortable that employees wish to spend time here rather than their homes. Though I don’t visit my office frequently, I almost knew everyone that’s working for us. Whenever I visit Phoenix, I’ll connect with people and converse with them as if they’re already my friends. I’m great at reading people, so I devote whatever time I have, in interacting with the staff. I feel like everyone admires and respects me. On the contrary, there are few people who think that I don’t deserve to be a CEO as they feel like I’m not much around the company and does nothing except signing the deals and yet enjoys all its perks. They might be correct to some degree but that doesn’t bother me much as I treat positive and negative opinions the same. 

                                          The employees were happy to see me. I silently mouthed. "Good Morning, how’s it going?” They responded to me with thumbs up and a big smile. It kind of made me happy. This took place while I was waiting for the lift. The lift arrived and opened with a ding sound. I hopped in and pressed the tenth floor. My company is a ten-storeyed building and my cabin is on the tenth floor. As soon as I reached my cabin, I saw two men in black suits sitting inside my cabin and my uncle was also there. I went in and sat in my chair. Uncle John seemed to be in a rush. He told me he had some works that needed his attention, so he had to leave. He gave me some papers to sign and asked me to talk to the gentlemen facing me. Saying so, he left. As John was hasty, I inferred he didn’t go through the papers he left for me to sign. I gave a brief look at those papers and finally signed them. The gentlemen facing me thought in their mind that I didn’t scrutinize the papers and just signed them. Anyway, I was done with the papers, and now I have to deal with the people that have been waiting for me for a couple of minutes. Sorry gentlemen, I kept you waiting. Would you like to have any drink? We almost have everything. They had asked for bourbon. I made a call and said bourbon. Within a minute, bellhop arrived there and served them with their wine and left.

Person 1: Good morning, sir. I am Edward, founder of "Marine Docks Ltd” and this is my PA Amar.

Person 2: Good morning, sir.

Steve: Good morning, fellas. How may I help you?

Person 2: The point is we’ve a proposition for you, sir. We have a                      dock through we import and export stuff. So, the deal is we’ll handle all your company’s imports and exports through our dock and split the profits 80-20. We don’t charge you for transport or anything. We split just the profit.

                              Even 20% of our company’s profits are worth a fortune for anyone. After explaining the proposition, Amar gave me a memorandum of understanding: a formal agreement between two or more companies. I took it and started glancing. They got a phone call so; they left the cabin. While I was reading it, I discovered many deviations to what they proposed. Like, share of profit is 20-80 and they aren’t responsible for product safety (stolen, damaged), in case of loss, they are not held accountable and many more. It is also mentioned that this contract remains active for 20 years. I didn’t understand why they wanted to deceive our company. After all, ours is a global company and people don’t usually dare to mess with us. Definitely there is someone powerful behind this deception. So to figure out their intention, I made calls to some of my guys and asked them to research about “Marine Docks Ltd. After a couple of minutes, my people learned that Marine Docks Ltd is heavily funded by an MNC named “PH Enterprise”. It is our greatest rival company. After a bit of research by myself, I realized that Marine Docks Ltd is a shell company of PH Enterprise, and they’re trying to weaken us by this contract.

                                Honestly, their conspiracy didn’t provoke me; in fact it made me laugh at such a desperate attempt to crush us. They might have taken me to be some foolish person who is sitting as a CEO just because of my father’s majority shares and I have no knowledge of deals and contracts. Of course, they’re mistaken. I didn’t take my heritage for granted. I know everything about being a businessman and I cannot be deceived such easily; it’s just that I didn’t have an interest to manage my company.

                          This all happened in the span of 5 minutes. As soon as the two pawns entered the cabin, I got up immediately from my chair and started moving toward them with a poker face. It terrified them; I could see it in their eyes as they thought that I figured out their treachery. Instead of confronting them, I hugged them and shrieked, “We’re partners now.” They sighed and exchanged looks with each other. They were relieved now. Before they asked me to show the signed contract, I suggested that it’s time to celebrate and took them out to a bar. Meanwhile, I asked a drafter (a person who writes a contract) to forge the same agreement, but names are reversed. So now all the boons were to me and banes were to them. “Karma is a b***h, Right?”  

                          After the bar I returned to the company and signed the forged agreement. I then gave the agreement to Edward saying Congratulations and with a big smile. They were too drunk to read the contract. Even if they were sober they wouldn’t have noticed it as they were written in a very small font. Also, it appeared the same as the original one and hence they wouldn’t go through it again as all they needed was my signature. So now you all know I’m not an absurd person. To be specific, I’m a smart ass. Being a talented businessman is one of the many talents I had. What people see of me is just the tip of an iceberg and I am much more than one’s imagination.

                        After a long day of manipulations, I finally left to house and had a deep sleep.
