Chapter-7

It’s from The Australian Military so I hope you understand the reason I kept it from all of you. Any way I only told you and I wish to keep the others in dark for a while. I nodded. Now he started to say about his invention. So I worked on it right from that moment. It was my first task as an undercover so I didn’t want to waste any time. But I could not select on which kind of weapon I should work on. If I created some deadly weapons and if they fall in wrong hands, the consequences would be catastrophic. Oh! I don’t even want to imagine that. So I decided to create something that is useful but not dangerous and most importantly, lethal. Then suddenly, stun grenades popped into my mind. So what does a stun grenade do? It makes a loud noise and emits a bright flash of light when they explode, temporarily blinding and deafening people nearby. They are non-lethal explosives depending on the individual’s vicinity from the point of explosion. I mean, if it explodes closer to you, it’s fatal. The drawbacks are that it makes a loud noise and its effects are momentary. The dazzle will probably last between 5 and 10 seconds at a minimum. Hearing effects, minutes to an hour or two. Dizziness is variable and is between ten seconds and an hour, depending upon individual susceptibility.                                        Let’s start from basic Physics. The images we see are made up of light reflected from the objects we look at. This light enters the eye through the cornea, which acts like a window at the front of the eye. The amount of light entering the eye is controlled by the pupil, which is surrounded by the iris–the coloured part of the eye. When light hits the retina (a light-sensitive layer of tissue at the back of the eye), special cells called photoreceptors turn the light into electrical signals. These electrical signals travel from the retina through the optic nerve to the brain. Then the brain turns the signals into the images you see. The concept of flashbang is based on high intensity of light. It emits a high beam of light, as the retina is light sensitive it results in blinding the individual temporarily. That’s how a usual flashbang works. We cannot use it during stealth missions cause of the loud noise it makes.                               So what I made is an improvisation to the flashbang. It’s more of a new creation than improvisation to be precise. I created it on the basis of basic principle of light or of the vision. But what if I could create something that would absorb light in a particular region for a considerable amount of time? Like a small black hole. Is it practically possible to create a black hole? I interrupted.  In theory, it is possible but no one had tried it yet. I would be the first one if it is successful. So, according to theory, if we could concentrate sufficient energy at one place, the particles in the region attains escape velocity (velocity required to escape earth’s gravitational force) resulting in darkness. To attain escape velocity the particles should travel faster than the speed of light. Tachyon is a hypothetical particle that travels faster than light. Darkness means absence of light. No light means no visibility.                                   It’s all Greek and Latin to me. But it does sound fantastic. So go on, I said. So, if I could create a mini sized particle accelerator that could fit in a grenade, then a major task will be completed. Generally particle accelerators are so large. They are about 16 miles. The smallest one is about 27 km. As our requirement is to create darkness (eliminate light) just in the region in front of eyes, I believe we can create a small one. But small black holes vaporises in seconds, so the device needs to constantly create black holes one after the other. It’s quite complex and tedious, but after many attempts, I created one. But I don’t know if it works or not.                                  You said that it only forms a black hole in a small region. How can we make sure that it creates a black hole right in the front of the enemy’s eyes? I questioned. Good question. For that purpose, I installed a small camera in it. So before you launch the grenade you need to capture the picture of the person on whom you want to use it and then project it on to him, it automatically aims for the region in front his eyes with the help of GPS I installed. Also, there is a little portion of a drug called Ketamine that gets released along with the creation of a black hole which induces confusion, weakness, and unconsciousness in the victim. I also set a timer in it with which we can decide how longer we need to stun the enemy.  It’s highly useful for stealth missions as it executes its function and makes no noise. I made 10 prototypes. If they work efficiently, I’ll start making more. I’ll give you 3 of what I made. Keep them safe, mate. I accepted them and put them in a bag he gave.                                                             I am tired. Shall we go grab a cup of coffee? Ronny asked. I said yes, and we went for the nearest coffee shop. We ordered two lattes and talked about movies and stuff. After many days, I felt normal again. Thanks for this, Ronny. I really needed this. Anytime buddy, he said with a big smile. After an hour, I returned to mansion. I almost spent the whole day at his house. It was worth it, though. I watched television for a while and then had my dinner and then fell asleep…                                                                                   It was 8 o'clock in the morning, but I was still asleep. Meanwhile, Ronny decides to submit his project. Before he sends the message to the Australian Military, he receives a message from an unknown account saying, Is Kangaroo ready?  ‘Who is this?’ Ronny asked. ‘We are The Australian Military. We suspect that our old account was being watched by third parties so we had to message you from the other one. So, is it ready?’ ‘Yes sir, it is.’ ‘I will ping you the location, come with the Kangaroos.’                     They sent Ronny a location, and he checked it on the Google maps. He learnt that it is an abandoned building. So it’s comfortable and quite safe for delivering his invention to them, he thought. But why it isn’t taking place in Defence Organization? He couldn’t think in that angle                            On the other hand, I woke up with the ringtone. I checked my phone, and it was Ronny that’s calling me. I answered.   ‘Good Morning Ronny. What’s up?’ ‘I am going to deliver the product to the military. Wish me luck.’ ‘Can you send me the location where the meet is going to take place? I don’t know why, but my guts tell me that something bad is going to happen.’ ‘Sure buddy, I’ll send you right away.’                                  I disconnected the call and immediately went near the location. I did a perimeter check to see if anything was wrong. Everything appeared normal. Maybe the military people were waiting inside to avoid suspicion or unwanted attraction. I stopped my car two blocks away and waited there. I called Ronny and said, keep your mobile in pocket and don’t disconnect the call; I want to hear what’s going on. I just want to make sure that you are safe. He accepted my idea and put his phone inside his pocket.                                                 Ronny finally reached the destination. It was a 5 storeyed building with no walls at the edges. It looked like the construction abruptly stopped.  People could easily fall off and die. All of a sudden Ronny became nervous. He felt all negative vibes around him. Part of him wanted to stop from going to the top floor where they were waiting for him. But he pulled himself together and started walking upstairs. As he crossed each floor, his heart beat faster. Finally, when he reached the 5th floor, his heartbeat was over the roof. He might even have a heart attack. He was sweating all over his body. But he cleaned his face with a hand kerchief and managed to look normal. There were four people, and all of them covered their face with a mask. It was suspicious.    Ronny: Why are you guys wearing masks? If I can ask about it. Man1: We are not allowed to reveal our identity to a civilian. Ronny: But you guys appointed me as an undercover agent. I’m not a civilian anymore. Man2: We are frequently recruited by higher officials to perform under-cover operations. Not even our enemy knows our identity. If our enemy suspects that someone knows our identity. Then they’ll have to face consequences. So indeed it’s for your safety.   What he said was convincing, but they didn’t appear to be legit for some reason.   Man1: So, did you bring the kangaroo? Ronny: Oh yes, here it is.  Three of them stood behind. One came forward to take the prototype. He came near Ronny. Man1: So, how does it work? Ronny explained them the whole process. Ronny: I set the timer to 5 seconds for these models. If it works successfully, we can increase the time period. After he told them how it worked, the man who was close to Ronny brought his hand forward to take the prototype. Only then Ronny saw a tattoo on his wrist. It was a Scorpion. Ronny remembered that it was a symbol of a mafia gang named “Skorpio.”  He was terrified upon realizing who they really were.
