Lou is furious when he learns Brett will be attending the awards show as a guest and not as a camera-snapping media hound. “What were you possibly thinking?” he bellows when Johnny tells him the situation. It isn’t until he speaks with Roxy’s mother himself that he begins to calm down a bit. Though he still doesn’t like it, a fact he reiterates every time he’s on the phone with Johnny, there’s little he can do about it now. Roxy’s drawn the line—either Johnny brings a date for Mel or she’ll go stag. Nothing Lou or anyone else says about it can change her mind.
Fortunately Lou recognizes his place in the grand scheme of things and he orders an extravagant stretch limousine for the evening’s transportation. He sends a pair of matching tuxedos to Johnny’s apartment, pressed and ready to wear
