Although thick clouds blanketed the sky, the temperature hadn’t dropped below ninety. Sweat dripped from my face as I set a box of computer parts on a table in the little wooden building beside the train station. I mopped my forehead with my sleeve and surveyed the room piled with what appeared to be junk. But to Max, it was a treasure trove of pieces he would use to build the surveillance system that would monitor the train station.
Since Todd hadn’t returned to fulfill his council duties, Max had talked me into helping him with the security project. So, I spent the scorching afternoon hauling old computers and electronics Alexander had helped him collect from attics and basements.
