CALEB I groggily opened my eyes as the world around me was a blur of chaos and smoke. Sharp pain throbbed in my head with a relentless drumbeat that pulsed through my entire body. I tried to move my neck and my limbs but in vain. There was an acrid smell of burning rubber and gasoline which filled my nostrils and made me cough. I tried to move, despite wincing in sharp pain that shot through my ribs. Dazed and disoriented, I struggled to piece together what had happened. And then the memory of the accident came alive in my mind. Flickering images of the crash flashed in my mind—screeching tyres, the sinister grin, the shattering impact. Fuck! Valerie! Adrenaline took over as I struggled to crawl out of the mangled mass of metal and started looking for Valerie. Panic began to set in a
