Morgan woke up at seven like always, today however she was completely exhausted. Iris was sleeping peacefully in the bed beside her. She felt her daughters head for a fever and found it was gone. Iris was cool to the touch, the worst of the flu obviously was over.
She moved into the bathroom first and washed her face, then she headed towards the kitchen. She always made sure that Iris had a good breakfast before she left for work. She snatched her phone from her purse and texted Lacy.
Morgan: Did you make it home okay?
Lacy: Yeah, Demon brought me.
Morgan: What do I have today?
Lacy: Only one apartment today, Wolf's.
Morgan: Great! Iris barely slept I'm exhausted.
Lacy: I'm free, I can watch Iris if you need me too.
Morgan: That'd be great, come by around 8?
Lacy: See ya then.
Normally the babysitter would watch Iris but Iris was closer with Lacy. Morgan texted the babysitter and told her she had the day off. She glanced at her watch, she could get to Wolf's by 8:30 and be home by 11:30, just in time to get Iris lunch and take a nap.
Her work days were constantly changing, some days she'd clean one apartment for one of the bikers, the next day she'd have several not counting Chrome. She took a slow drink of coffee, hoping it would wake her up a little bit before Lacy got there.
As if on cue just as the toast popped Iris bounded into the kitchen with the kind of spunk only a child could have that early.
"Morning mommy."
"Morning Princess, do you feel better?"
"Lots better, I want eggs for breakfast."
"Let's see if you can keep toast down first," Morgan said placing a slice in front of her.
Iris shrugged and happily began picking apart her toast. Morgan found herself too tired to eat anything and settled for just her coffee.
Morgan must have drifted slightly to sleep because a loud knock jolted her awake, glancing to her left she saw Iris was no longer at the table. She stood and glanced into the living room to see Iris parked in front of the television on the floor.
She turned and went back to the kitchen, she opened the door and Lacy breezed inside. Her hair was a mess and she was wearing sunglasses.
"Please, tell me you have coffee."
"I have coffee," Morgan replied before closing the door.
Lacy wasted no time in pulling a cup from the cupboard and pouring herself a cup of coffee. She collapsed into Morgans vacant chair and began eating her forgotten toast.
"If you don't feel up to babysitting, I'll understand."
"No, I'm just a tad hungover. I'll be fine once I eat and have some coffee."
"So, Demon took you home?" Morgan raised an eyebrow.
"It's not what you think, he offered to drive me and I agreed. He's the only guy in that group that I trust not to feel me up when I'm wasted."
"Really?"
"Well, Wolf has never tried anything, Sky and Ty flirt but it's harmless. Zeke hasn't even noticed I have breasts."
Morgan took a seat next to her friend and took a drink of her own coffee.
"Do you want him to notice?"
"Nah, the pups are all really hands on though."
Morgan shook her head, she knew the pups were all the new and young recruits. Most of them weren't even patched in yet. They always tended to be a little over ambitious, a little rowdy but Wolf made sure they grew up and straightened out into the serious men he needed them to be.
"Wolf will straighten them out, he always does." Lacy said.
"I'm sure he will."
"He wants you to clean his place first then the bar after lunch."
"Okay, can you text me the address?"
"Already did."
"Great, I better get going then."
Morgan stood and emptied the rest of her coffee down the sink, she placed the cup inside and grabbed Wolfs jacket from the edge of the table and his helmet.
She reached the address that Lacy texted her and stared up at the massive building. She climbed slowly from the car, the jacket and helmet forgotten. The building was in an area of town she tried to avoid and it looked dangerous.
Swallowing her fear she walked up to the building and through the glass doors. A cold, dark staircase met her inside the entry way and curved into a spiral as it ascended. She took just a minute to lean against the railing and look up the seemingly endless ascent.
Taking a deep breath she gripped the railing and started up the stairs, Lacy had informed her there was no elevator and she attributed that to Wolfs amazing physique. Just because she hated the mans guts didn't mean should couldn't admire his body, and she did.
He lived on the top floor and while she normally enjoyed a little exercise she was exhausted when she reached his floor. She turned left at the top of the stairs and walked towards his apartment. The ceiling in the hall was made of glass and glancing up she saw it was raining. She counted the numbers on the doors until she reached his.
There was a note taped on the outside and it had her name scrawled on the front. She peeled it off the door and read it.
Couldn't wait around to give you a key, it's unlocked.
She sighed heavily and took a deep breath. She suddenly felt nervous about going into his apartment, she'd never been told to clean his place before and had never been inside. She hesitantly placed a hand on the door and it slowly opened. She hesitated on the threshold.
Inside the apartment was dark but she could hear the rain, she took a step inside and then shook her head. He wasn't even home so feeling nervous was stupid, she cleaned for a living and that's why she was there.
She turned on a light and stepped into the living-room. The carpets were dark gray, the walls were brick on one side and the rest were white. A leather couch faced large windows that showed how dark the city was with rain. To the right she found a spacious bedroom with a king size bed and bathroom was connected. A small kitchen stood behind the living-room.
It was a nice apartment, spacious and not nearly as run down as some of the other guys. She decided to begin in the kitchen. She scrubbed the cupboards, did the dishes, scrubbed floors on her hands and knees. She took out the trash and then allowed herself a break.
She collapsed onto the leather couch, her chest ached with fatigue and her legs joined in. She was exhausted, she needed sleep and feared she was beginning to catch whatever Iris had suffered from. She never took breaks but just this once, allowed herself to sit down.
Wolf opened his door to his apartment, finding it still unlocked. Had Morgan forgot to lock it behind her? Crossing the threshold he could smell the sweet, pine scent. The lights were on and he walked further into the apartment. He saw that his kitchen had clearly been cleaned but the rest of the place was still in disarray.
He grabbed a beet from the fridge and took a drink, tossing the bottlecap onto the table. He moved into his living room and was seconds away from collapsing onto his couch when he saw Morgan. She was sitting on the end of the couch, her feet tucked underneath her, her head laying at an awkward angle against the arm rest, sound asleep.
His first instinct was to wake her up and ask her what the hell she was doing. He set his beer aside and was preparing to wake her when he saw how pale she was, ghostly white with dark rings under her eyes. Was she sick? He vaguely remembered her daughter had the flu.
Reaching out he touched her forehead and found it a little warmer than what he thought was normal. He glanced back at the kitchen, it was spotless. He knew from seeing the other guys places and the club territory she wasn't a slacker.
He leaned over her and gently slid one arm under her knees, the other supporting her back he lifted her from the couch. He settled her slight weight against his chest and she stirred, only for a second.
She made a soft whimper of protest and her eyes fluttered open but didn't focus on him.
"Shhh, it's okay." He said softly.
Before he had even finished his sentence her head fell back against his chest, her eyes closing. He waited a minute or two, making sure she wasn't going to wake up before he moved again. Crossing the living room in a few easy strides he carried her into his bedroom and gently laid her on his bed. He covered her with one of top blankets and felt her forehead again.
She was still warm to the touch but appeared to be sleeping peacefully. He closed the door as he exited his room and finally collapsed onto his couch.
