Chapter 5 - Past - ???

One more day had come to an end... 

He set the bags on the kitchen counter and headed toward the dresser so he could change into a more comfortable outfit... Staring at the ingredients, he began his dinner... A simple Neapolitan pasta. 

That day had ended up without dilemmas in his internship but Kristian didn't want to cook that night... He could have bought something ready to eat however he knew it would end being Fast Food or Chinese again like the last three days... So he decided to cook, against his will.

... The smell made Kristian's mouth water... 

The pasta should be very good or he was very hungry, no matter which one was, it helped him to forget the excitement that his animal side felt... He wanted to go for a run in his wolf form on the last day of the full moon, allowing his instincts to be free but how could Kris do it in a city full of buildings? And dominated by cars?

His lone thoughts were soon forgotten when he heard a bell sound from his laptop getting his attention... It was a video call. He murmured something unclear with his mouth full of food, something about his mother... Putting the laptop on the table he answered the call while he finishing his dinner and was glad to see that on the other side was Jackson's, not she, for his luck.

"Hey!" Jackson greeted him. "Is everything ok?"

"Hm!" (Hey!) Hunger was the best seasoning and Kristian didn't care to keep eating while talking to his best friend. "Hmmming's okay! And you?" (Everything's ok! And you?)

"..." A sigh was the first thing that came out of Jack's mouth as he thought Kris hadn't changed at all. "First! How many times have I told you to not talk with your full mouth, Kris? I'm not psychic... And second, yes. Everything's ok with me too."

"Sorry, Jack. But you always understand me." Kristian spoke with a silly grin and when his hazel eyes met Jackson's blue eyes, the long-haired young man sighed again. "Aside! Why are you calling me?"

"Seriously Kris! Can't I call you anymore?" Jack asked shocked. "And I thought you were my best friend! My Beta!"

"..." Kristian decided to eat some more of his pasta before answering it. "Are you kidding, Jack? Both you and I know that you only call me when it comes to something very important or related to the Pack. So tell me already, what happened?"

"OK, bro! Wise as always, it's obvious you're my Beta!"

"Jack... Stop screwing up and talk! Did something happen with the Pack? Or with my mom?... Wait! Is that the reason why she didn't call me yet today?!"

"Ok, ok, ok! Calm down, Kristian!" Seeing the fear of his Beta while searching for his cell phone, Jackson knew he needed to calm down the young man. "Nothing happened with the Pack, or with your mom."

"True? So why are you calling me Jackson?" In his friend's voice, Jack could notice how difficult it was for him to control his need to shift.

"OK! Calm down, man! It doesn't matter if you're on the other side of the country, I'm still your Alpha, Kristian." It didn't matter if it was a video call or not... Or that Jack knew why Kristian was struggling to control his beast, his animal side couldn't stand the disrespect, he was the Alpha and Kristian could never talk to him like that, so his Alpha's tone showed when saying his friend's name...

"..." Kris didn't know what to reply, through the screen he could see the yellow glow appearing in his friend's eyes, meaning that his true nature was present... Making a chill went down Kristian's back before he apologized. "Sorry, Jack... You know how bad these days are for me since I have nowhere to go here..."

"I know... Sorry about that too, Kris... I don't need to use my Alpha's tone on you but recently my powers have been increasing and... I just wanna make everyone respect me like Alpha, making the Full Moon no my favorite day either nowadays."

"Don't worry, Jack. I am your Beta and I can feel your powers increasing too." Kristian reassured his friend. "So? What is the secret? Can you tell me now already?"

"Secret?" Jackson laughed at the word chosen by his friend. "It's... Thinking that I notice it out a few days ago and hadn't told anyone yet, you can say it is a secret... But, do you remember that last month was my birthday?"

"How I can't remember?! I come home just because of your party that was on the same day... as... the full moon... Jack?"

"Hm?"

"Can you feel your mate?" A smile appeared on the young Alpha's lips.

"Since Monday!" The happiness was easy to see in Jackson's eyes, in his voice... "But I didn't meet him yet."

"Man! It has been only one week!" Kristian laughed staring at Jack's annoyed face. "Did you truly believed you would find him magically in the same minute by smelling him?"

"... Well... After Melissa told me that he would always be closer to me... Yes, I thought I would find him in the same week." Kristian couldn't believe what his friend was saying to him... But they both stayed up the rest of the night, talking about how they wanted their Mates to be like... 

... And bad they knew about the future...

... Seeing the commotion in front of me, I remembered our talk...  From four years ago... It had happened almost a month after Jack's birthday and it was when he told me about how he was finally able to hear his Mate's heartbeat while being so happy with the news.

"You CAN'T be my mate!" He told these words like a whisper but our abilities allowed me and everyone present here to hear him perfectly.

... A terrible silence took everyone as they couldn't take their eyes off Jackson and Selena... No one knew which one to look at as they didn't understand the whole picture and my childhood friend stayed staring at us with his blue eyes full of doubt.

... I would feel the same if I were him...

"YOU BASTARD!!!" I got the first slap from Selena's handbag as she kept hitting and cursing me using her hands and bag. "I CAN'T BELIEVE!!! YOU HAVE CHEATED ME WITH SO MANY GIRLS IN THE PAST!!! AND YOU ARE GAY?!"

We heard a powerful growl... A warning growl that made her attacks stop, silencing her and allowing everyone to hear what I was trying to say to her in the middle the punches and her angry moment...

"I AM NOT GAY SELENA! I AM BI!"
