Chapter 5

Felita's mind wandered to Thorin while waiting for Vallin to return to her room. She couldn't resist and sent him a text message. She quickly typed 'wyd' before she changed her mind. She was surprised when he answered right away. 'Just got into bed. Thinking about you.' Felita grinned at his answer, 'good things or bad?' she asked. 'All good things. You have no idea how overwhelmed with feelings I was when I felt the pull of the mate bond.' Felita sat there thinking about what to say next when she heard a short knock at her door. Vallin was outside. 'I can't wait to spend tomorrow with you to talk more. ttyl', she sent him before turning her phone on silent and leaving it on her bed. She opened the door for Vallin, who was patiently waiting with his arms full of snacks. "About time! I was wondering if you were still in the shower or what." Felita giggled but didn't answer. "Come on. Get in here." She pulled him into her room and took half of the snacks. She tossed them on the bed and waited for him to set the rest down. When his hands were finally free, she threw her arms around him. He pulled her close and buried his face in her neck. She held him close as he breathed in her scent. "I'm so glad you finally have that other dude's scent off you. It was driving me crazy earlier." Felita pulled away and tucked her hair behind her ears, "Oh, sorry. I didn't think about it." Of course, she had, but she didn't know what else to say. She sat on the edge of the bed, and he joined her. They sat with their knees touching, and Vallin took her hand. "Why so awkward now," he asked her. "I don't know. A lot of things changed tonight. My mind is all over the place, and I feel like we should discuss so many things, but I don't want you to be upset and ruin just being here together right now. It feels so nice to just relax together after a crazy night." Vallin pulled her into a hug, "It's fine. We're going to deal with everything. Let's just relax and talk about it. If one of us gets upset, we will leave it alone until later." Felita nodded and scooted over to the other side of the bed. "I'm going to put a movie on. Come over here." Vallin chuckled, "I wasn't sure if you would stay here tonight or go back to your parent's house. So I was surprised that you wanted to hang out here." Felita shrugged one shoulder as she opened a bag of chips. "I know my parents will want to talk to me about all of this, but I feel this is between us. I wanted to give you my attention tonight. I can talk to them tomorrow. Besides, what kind of advice can they possibly give me? It's not like they've ever had to deal with this." Vallin opened a soda and sipped it before setting it down on the bedside table. "Yeah, I'm sure my parents will do the same thing. I think this is better. I was so happy that you were my mate. I have always thought you would be, but to know and feel it is two different things." Felita smiled and rubbed her thumb over the back of the hand he was holding. The tingles from their touch were new, and it felt so good. "Yeah, I agree. I imagined we would be marking each other tonight, but now I think we should wait." Vallin slowly took a deep breath, "I guess that's a good idea. I'm not going to lie; my wolf hates it, and I agree, but I understand why you would say that. I want everything to be perfect, and having this other dude in the picture isn't it." Felita nodded, "About Thorin. He is also my mate. It's crazy, and I have no idea how I ended up with two mates, but he deserves an equal chance, too. He suggested we take some time to get to know each other before I decide who I want to be with." Vallin gave her a hurt look, breaking her heart, "You're considering choosing this guy?" Felita's chest tightened, "I just want time to think before I do anything. He isn't open to sharing me as a mate, and I'm sure you're not either. I don't want to be in the middle, either. It just doesn't feel right. The Goddess paired me with both of you for a reason, so I don't want to do anything rash." Vallin took his hand from her, and she felt guilt overwhelming her. Her phone vibrated, and she looked at it. 'You have nothing to feel guilty about. You are doing the right thing. He will understand eventually.' Thorin was feeling her emotions, and she appreciated his concern, but it hadn't been a good idea to look at her phone with Vallin sitting there. "What does that mean," he asked her. "What? Did the two of you plan out what you would say to me?" Felita shook her head as tears filled her eyes, "No, I swear we didn't. He can feel my emotions. I think he was just trying to be supportive." Valin rolled his eyes and stood up from the bed. "Maybe I should go." Felita wrung her hands, "I don't want you to go. Let's just enjoy being together tonight." Vallin stood there looking at her for a while before finally joining her on the bed. He snuggled up next to her and wrapped his arm around her shoulders. "I'm sorry I'm not handling this well." Felita kissed his cheek. "It's okay." He pressed his head to hers as they lay side by side, watching the movie. "What does your wolf say about this?" Felita hesitated, not wanting to lie, "she is impressed by the dragon. She has no objections to either of you as a mate." Vallin read between the lines, "So she would choose the dragon prince?" Felita hadn't given much thought to Thorin being a prince. "Oh, um, yes. I think she would." After that, Vallin didn't ask any more questions about Thorin. Instead, they enjoyed snuggling and eating snacks until early morning. Eventually, they fell asleep in each other's arms. Felita's dreams were filled with dark brown wolves and black dragons that night. She tossed and turned in her sleep, but every time she started to wake, she felt Vallin beside her and breathed in his scent until she was pulled back into the dream world. Meanwhile, Vallin was having dreams of his own. He lay calmly wrapped around his mate, but his eyes moved rapidly beneath closed lids as a nightmare had him so lost within his mind that he couldn't force himself to wake up. The pair woke up late the next morning. Felita was awake in his arms, looking at him with haunting gray eyes. "Good morning, mate," she whispered. "Good morning," he echoed. "What are your plans for today," she asked him. "I don't know yet. What about you?" Felita played with his blond hair, "I have plans for today, but I would like to see you when I get back home tonight." Vallin agreed, "Okay. Just let me know when you get back. I wish you didn't have plans so I could snuggle you all day and pretend there weren't any complications waiting for us." Felita kissed the end of his nose, "Me too, but that's not how things are working out for us. Let's get breakfast together. Then I really have to go." Vallin sighed and got out of bed, "Okay, let me go get dressed, and I will meet you in the dining room." Felita watched him leave her room before getting out of bed. She didn't know what she would do today with Thorin, so she dressed in jeans and a black blouse and slipped on a pair of black ankle boots. She pulled her hair into a high ponytail and put on a little mascara and lipgloss. Finally ready, she went to the dining room. All eyes were on her, and Rue tapped her on the shoulder. "Hey, tell me everything," she whispered loudly. Felita narrowed her eyes at her friend. "Not right now. I will tell you later, though, I promise." Rue sighed, "Okay, fine." Vallin found her and took her hand, "Okay, let's get something to eat," he said as he pulled her to the counter. They each made a plate and took a seat at their normal table. Everyone else returned to eating as they watched the pair carry on as if everything was normal.
