THE REST OF THE AFTERNOON continued at a steady pace until an hour before closing where it appeared no one was in the library at all. That was so unusual that I did a careful walkabout to make sure nobody had drowsed off in the quiet section. But no one was there. I waited until our nine o’clock closing time just the same, in case a frantic student needed to rush in and grab a resource or make a copy on our copy machine. But it was quiet. I coaxed Fitz into his carrier and he sleepily ambled in. I was about to walk out and lock up when I remembered the remains of Wilson’s ill-fated dinner that I’d promised Luna I’d discreetly get rid of.
