The morning passed quickly strolling along the grand boulevards. We went up the Champs-Élysées and passed through the doors of the famous Fouquet’s at midday sharp. Hugo’s parents had already arrived, a younger version of his mother was frantically playing on her smartphone. She barely looked up to greet us. For someone who was looking forward to seeing her brother... As soon as I was seated to the right of Hugo’s father, Madame Ricard addressed me: “Cali, here it's common courtesy not to raise your voice.” I looked at her wide-eyed not understanding what she meant. She had stuck her nose back into the menu and didn’t seem ready to give me more clues. I looked at Hugo, and he seemed as surprised as I was. “Mother? What do you mean?” She looked at him as if he had just lost his mind.
