Chapter 17 Did You Steal It?

601 Words
Laura touched her fair neck, her face full of grief. Everyone knew that Zak Morris had won her necklace was at the price of 15 million dollars at an auction last month. The banquet hall was suddenly filled with sighs. There was actually a thief in such an elite place. Security guards immediately blocked all the exits. Lilly couldn't help but feel a chill down her spine. She raised her head and looked at the centre of the banquet. She saw that Laura was looking back at her maliciously with a wicked smile. Oh no! Lilly immediately realized that something was wrong, but now she had nowhere to go. Soon, a burly security guard stood in front of her and looked down at her. "Hello, Miss. Do you have an invitation card?" They had specifically targeted her out of everyone there. The meaning was clear. Everyone at the banquet looked at Lilly with suspicion. At this time, Lilly had no other choice, but she still kept a smile on her face and opened her purse calmly. "Found it!" Before Lilly could completely open the bag, the security guard beside her pulled the bag out of her hand roughly and took out the said necklace. Laura pushed aside the crowd and quickly held the necklace in her hand. She was laughing and crying, looking the perfect picture of a harmless victim. "Miss, you don't look like a poor person. But why did you steal things?" Laura's eyes were red as she looked at Lilly. Laura at Lilly as if she did not know her. All the people present were deceived by her superior acting skills, but Lilly knew what had happened. Laura had set her up. Only Laura would use such despicable means. The servant who had blocked her just now had also disappeared. Lilly sneered. It seemed that she would be at a disadvantage today and would be humiliated by Laura. "If you don't speak up, I'm going to call the police." Laura pretended to give Lilly a chance, but she had already secretly arranged for the housekeeper to call the police. Now that Lilly had been labelled as a thief in front of all these prominent people of Skargness, it would be difficult for her to shake off that label and make a name for herself. "Lilly, you can't beat me at my own game." Thought Laura. "Hold on." Just as she was ecstatic, a cold voice interrupted her. "It's Stanley Grant!" Everyone was in an uproar when the slender figure appeared in the banquet hall. Stanley was so prominent, and to be able to see him on such an occasion made one feel as if they had been triply blessed. But he had an aristocratic demeanour and cold aura. No one dared to approach him. They watched as he walked all the way to Lilly like a king. The security guards, who originally seemed strong, looked worthless in front of him. Stanley surveyed the scene as if there was no one was around, and finally, his cold eyes fell on Lilly. "Did you steal it?" He asked calmly. "Ah?" Lilly recognized the man in front of her as the boss who had accepted her. "Does he recognize me?" She thought to herself. "What would he do to her? Would she be fired? Banned from the industry? For a moment, Lilly's mind was in a mess. "I'm asking you a question." Stanley frowned slightly. He had never seen anyone dare to be absent-minded in front of him. And in such a tense situation too. This woman was simply too silly.
