Chapter 14

It’s been almost twenty-four hours since Amara passed out and she never showed any sign of waking up but Damien knew she will. He noticed Amara’s tattoo getting bigger and bigger as time passes by, which shows a good sign about her recovery. Rosella stayed by Amara’s side watching over her whilst Richmond, Wilson, and Barbara are hunting for their food. Damien was seated not too far from where Amara laid; he didn’t want to get his eyes off of her even for a second. Admittedly, Damien knows he had no further knowledge about Amara’s power or even about a sorceress but after the incident he is willing to know everything about Amara even if it means asking her about it. Damien stared at Amara’s unconscious state and whispered to himself, “I’ll make sure to protect you next time.” Rosella almost had tears on her eyes as she looks at Amara. She’s been taking in faint breaths as she lay unconscious. Rosella took Amara’s hand, giving it a tight squeeze as she said, “You better wake up Amara. I don’t want to lose a sister again.”   ~~~~~ “You can’t defeat me sister.” “Your power is still incomplete Amara, and with that you can never defeat me.” “You know what to do Amara.” “All you have to do is kill a human. Just kill.”   Amara fluttered her eyes open, breathing heavily as she blinked her eyes. Looking around she saw nothing but darkness and trees; on her side she saw Rosella sleeping. Amara sat up and saw everyone sleeping; everyone except Damien. Damien mentally sighed in relief seeing Amara finally opened her eyes. Amara’s eyes landed on Damien who silently walked closer to her. “How are you feeling?” asked Damien the moment he got near. He placed his palm on Amara’s forehead feeling her temperature. “Your fever’s gone.” Damien said. “I had a fever?” nodding his head in response to Amara, Damien then asked, “I bet you’re hungry, do you still have the strength to go hunt?” Amara blinked her eyes and stared into Damien then she answered, “Of course but its dark already.” “That’s the best time to hunt.” Hearing Damien’s answer Amara frowned. She got up but she stumbled and almost fell back on the ground, good thing Damien caught her arm, pulling her up causing their faces only inches apart. Damien circled his arm around Amara’s waist for support and to prevent her from falling again; he’s almost lifting her up. “There’s still dinner left if you want to eat. I just wanted you to hunt so you could gain your powers.” Amara blinked her eyes and she slowly breaks away from Damien’s hold. “I guess you figured it out.” Amara commented. “It wasn’t hard to put all the pieces together. Besides, I can read you like an open book princess.” Amara stared into Damien’s eyes as she replied, “Then I guess there’s no point hiding anything from you anymore.” “I don’t want you to hide anything from me and you don’t need to.” Amara smiled but then it was replaced with a frown. “You keep on touching me lately.” Amara teased making Damien smirk and answered, “Because you keep on looking at me.” Amara rolled her eyes and walked off on her own. Damien turned his head and watch as Amara walked off. Looking back Amara asked with a frown, “I thought you said we’re going hunting.”   ~~~10 years later~~~   “Amara!!! It’s heading your way.” Amara held her bow tight realising the arrow half a second later. “Did you hit him?” Rosella asked as she ran her way towards Amara. “I think so.” Amara answered. “I know you did.” Barbara commented the moment she got close to the two. Ten years has passed. Amara is still yet to complete her power but she got better in physical combat and in handling weapons. After the incident ten years ago, Barbara slowly warmed up to her but there were still instance where Barbara gets on her nerves especially if Damien is around. Because of this Amara then concluded that Barbara might have feelings for Damien and she’s been trying to tell Damien about it but he doesn’t care. Finally, Amara felt that she found a new family. She got closer with everyone especially Rosella; Damien is an exception though. Amara considers Damien as her mentor, trainer, and hunting partner. She shares deeper connection with Damien, who knows her more than anyone else. “I’ll go take a look.” Amara ran towards the deer making sure she was not followed. She may be close to them but she didn’t let them know about her ability to extract life force from a living and turning them into her power. Amara intentionally hit the deer’s leg to stop it from running. Taking life force from animal is way for her to recharge her power when she uses it. It’s like filing water into the barrel when it gets empty but in her case, she’s not allowed to empty her magic because it will kill her unless of course if she takes human life force, then there’s no need for her to recharge her powers; it will then be limitless. Looking down, Amara smiled as she slowly approached the deer. “I don’t want to kill you. I just want us to be friends.” The deer stared into her eyes taking in faint breaths until its soul came out of its body entering into Amara’s. “It’s been ten years and I still find it fascinating every time you talk to animals.” Squeezing her eyes shut for a quick moment, Amara turned her head and saw Damien leaning his body on a tree. “Shut up Damien.” Amara retorted. “Carry him.” Amara ordered but Damien stayed on his place with his arm crossed. “YOU carry it.” Damien answered leaving Amara to carry the deer. Amara gritted her teeth in annoyance and she carried the heavy deer on her own. As they reached their camp, Wilson saw Amara carrying the deer which made him ran towards her. “Why are you carrying that Amara?” Wilson asked getting the deer from Amara. Glaring at the person beside her Amara answered, “Because Damien wasn’t being a man.” “Letting a frail woman carry such a heavy load, you really have no delicacy. Just because you’re----never mind.” Amara murmured her complaints but it was loud enough for Damien to hear. Leaning in to her ear Damien whispered, “Don’t make it too obvious princess.” Amara backed away with a frown on her face as she asked back, “What are you talking about?” “The fact that you’re interested in m------“ “Damien!!! It’s your turn to butcher the animal.” Richmond called cutting what Damien has to say. Damien walked over to Richmond leaving Amara dumbfounded. “What in the name of the Gods is he talking about?” Amara asked herself, face laced with confusion. Shaking her head Amara went into their small tent to place her bow down. Amara’s fingers found its way to her neck with her mother’s amulet around it. “It’s been ten years now, Mama.” “Amara are you coming?” Amara turned her head and saw Rosella peeking through the tent. “Yes.” Amara simply answered. Walking out of the tent, Wilson walked over to her and said, “Can I talk to you Amara?” Nodding her head Amara answered, “Of course.” Wilson and Amara walked a few distance away from the campsite. There was a moment of silence before Wilson finally spoke, “I’m sorry if I took you a little far.” Shrugging her shoulders Amara replied, “It’s alright. What is it you wanted to talk about?” “It seems like you and Barbara are starting to get close.” Wilson started making Amara smile. She never expected she would be friends with Barbara. Before, she thought Barbara would hate her forever but it changed. “It made me happy though. I thought she was gonna hate me till the end.” Amara answered with a smile. “Remember when we had a conversation at the tree top ten years ago?” nodding her head Amara remember the time when she first came into their home. “Since then, I’ve been enchanted by your beauty Amara and what I wanted to say is that I-------“ “You like me?” Wilson eyes grew wide not expecting Amara to finish him off. “You knew? Does this mean you feel the same way about me too.” Shaking her head Amara answered with a hard, “NO.” “You are like a brother to me Wilson and I’ve known about your feelings for two years now but I’m sorry I can’t give you the same feeling that you gave me.” Wilson shook his head and asked, “Is it because of Damien?” Amara frowned wondering why would Wilson think that it’s about Damien. “NO. Why would you think that?” “Then, why Amara?” “We all have a soulmate Wilson and I am waiting for mine.”
