Caroline led me into the forest, where the whole pack was gathered for the monthly night run. I chuckled nervously, rubbing my arms. "Okay, so this is how it works. We get behind bushes, strip buck naked, shift, and run around all night and play around. Beta, Alpha, and Luna are always in the front. That's it. Anything else is completely allowed that is peaceful. It hasn't ever been that way though. Someone ends up getting hurt," she explains, shrugging and getting behind a bush. I did the same and shifted, coming out from the bush and seeing everyone else in their wolf form.
There were wolves in many different shapes, sizes, and colors. Red, gray, brown, but no black or white. I stood out from the crowd. Caroline stood next to me, her red tinted fur proudly standing out. I padded over to the crowd and pushed my way through, struggling to not notice the green and brown eyes being placed on my fur.
A huge roar ripped through the crowd, all the wolves around me cringing except for Caroline. A large black wolf emerged from the shrubbery, his menacing blue stare not having to tear through the crowd to find my white fur and growl at any nearby male. I stood tall and growled at Xander when he grew near, telling him to stop threatening anyone. I mind linked him.
'No one will even try, Xander. I would kill them myself.'
Xander stopped growling and stood beside me, Caroline joining her mate on the side. Xander moved forward, quickly going to the front of the pack, and I, flanking him. I knew his eyes were looking straight at me, but I decided to ignore him for the sake of today and the run. Xander started to growl again at the nearing males, their bodies looking ready to run everywhere. I turned towards him and glared at him.
'Xander, you're doing it again when there's no need!'
He stopped growling and I nod sharply before he started to run, my stride smaller than his, but I was keeping a steady pace. The pack followed us until Xander let out a small growl that dismissed the rest of the wolves. They parted from us, howling and laying around. Some sleeping, some running, some talking, some hunting. I moved to the nearby river and cleaned off my pelt, ridding it of any mud or leaves. A low rumble came from the side of the river and it made me stop everything that I was doing and wag my tail. The growl sounded playful. I smirked. Oh he didn't just challenge me in a play fight.
I am the Alpha and he is the Beta at play fights. I saw his wolf stride confidently over to me, his smirk obviously plastered on his muzzle. I growled, the sound brimming with challenge.
He tried to pounce on me, but my training kicked in and I rolled my body away. His wolf was much too big for agility, and my small slim wolf was strong and agile. And in this battle, speed is key. I leapt onto his back, grabbing at his scruff and pulling. He spun around, knocking me off, but I charged, nipping his back leg. He growled and finally pinned me, his blue eyes gleaming with victory. I growled and did my best to shove him off and quickly escape his hold. I instead held him down while he was wiggling on the ground, trying to get me off. I clamped my teeth on his ear in a threat he stopped, staring into my eyes intently. He lay his head completely down in submission and I wagged my tail triumphantly, prancing away like a little pup.
Some of the older wolves found our playing amusing, but some found it completely horrifying. If I had beaten Alpha, that means I was stronger than him myself. Meaning the whole pack sees me as a merciless warrior without a heart. When another wolf stared at me way too long and with a dumbfounded smile on his face, Xander got involved. He grabbed him by the scruff and threw him across the river, the male's back ramming into a large boulder. Everyone else looked at this conflict like it was something that happened every day.
I acted, bolting for the injured male and standing defensively in front of him. Xander blinked, his growl telling me to step aside. I didn't move an inch, glaring at him the most intense stare I could muster. After a few moments like this, I turned back to the injured wolf and nodded, dismissing him. He whimpered and went away with a nod of thanks. Fury blazed in my mate's blue eyes, outraged that I let that wolf go without any more punishment. He stared at me, his paws flexing, but I knew he wouldn't hurt me in a million years. I raised my head higher and licked his muzzle lightly before he stopped and calmed down. He howled slightly and I gave him a toothy smile. The show of affection made the adorable younger wolves at the age of thirteen see their Alpha in a new light. The new generations were going to see Xander differently because of this act and I was confident that I did it. The older wolves nearly smiled, but knew the punishments.
I tipped slightly in excitement and started to run off, weaving through the trees and letting my tongue hang out of my jaws. I smiled and gripped my claws on one of the trees, sharpening them on it. Xander followed behind me, rubbing against me in an apology. I licked his ear in response and he looked up to the sky to see the sun creeping up over the trees. He guided me back to our main area where everyone shifted and I shifted back and put my clothes back on, feeling relieved that I had given the pack the vision that he could be someone to love, like me.
I knew they trusted me after I defended that random wolf, but they don't know me as well as Caroline does or even as well as Xander does. They don't know that I love music, sports, and hot tea with the sweetest honey in it. They didn't know that Hamilton was a way of life for me and that I cried every time Philip died. They didn't know that I would defend even a murderer in order to make sure a family wasn't left without a member they once had.
I shuddered when I heard someone behind me. Not Xander's scent. I turned and saw a man. He extended a hand and I shook it, looking around for Xander. I pulled my hand away quickly when the handshake got long enough just to make sure Xander wouldn't try to kill anyone again. "Thanks for saving me," he said, dipping his head slightly. "I would've died without you there to stop Alpha."
"Just be careful where you look, dude," I reply casually. "Alpha doesn't take things lightly."
He dipped his head again. "I was only admiring that you stood up to Alpha and challenged him back. The pack needs a Luna like that," he explained.
I nodded. "Make sure you just be careful." I turned away, walking back to the Alpha house, carrying my boots back just because I was too lazy to put them back on. I sat down on the couch, the door opening and Xander walking through the door when I turned on the TV.
"Pack your things, Little Mate. We're leaving in the morning," he ordered lightly, smiling at me. "And thank you for everything you did back there. I was taught to be violent with them, and when you protected your pack, you showed true leadership there. A warrior. You changed my pack for the better. They like you more than me."
I lift myself from the couch and make my way to him. I stand in front of him, his golden eyes already enchanting me. I touched his face and he immediately snuggled into my touch, but his eyes were full of curiosity. I pulled him closer, his lips only centimeters away from mine. He leaned in further, a whisper between our faces. I smirked and kissed his cheek then ran up the stairs, going into the bedroom and pulling out the suitcase I brought my stuff in. I put some shirts, some jeans, some shorts, then my boots, throwing in my undergarments in the bottom pocket. I rolled my eyes at the word 'undergarments' and zipped everything up, knowing some of my stuff will be at my house that I can pick up later.
I looked up and found Xander's eyes, my mark now blazing. Desire rolled off his body again, making me shiver. I rubbed one arm nervously and he smirked, leaning down to my sitting position and kissing me, our lips desperately locked together. I held onto him like he was a life source and he picked me up and placed me on the bed. This time I was not going to stop him like yesterday. He stopped kissing me and looked at me for reassurance. I nodded and he continued to kiss me, his hands under my shirt and on my bare hips.
Now everything was final. I could never leave him or be separated from him otherwise I would have to suffer the major pain of Xander not being with me. My heart would throb whenever he was too far away from me, and my emotions would tell me to do things I wouldn't normally do. Great, there will be another version of Chayse that I didn't want my brother to see. A romantically active Chayse with a large heart and eyes for only Xander. I never want to see this Chayse again, so I'll push her down.
I like my normal Chayse. Sarcastic, caring, strong, and determined. Yeah, that's going to be me always. Not ever going to show romantic Chayse to the world. That was only for Xander, and he never teased me about it. He always will see me as my best Chayse. The one that claimed my fudge before I accepted him. Ha! That Chayse will always be my favorite.
But, this was the night Aria had wanted ever since we saw his eyes. She wanted to claim him as he did want to claim me. And right now, Aria was howling like the moon was three times its size tonight.

"Don't kill me with your reckless driving, Xander," I tease, putting my suitcase in the back then sliding into the passenger seat. "Last time I rode with you, I nearly had a heart attack." He smirked and changed gears, a dangerous look in his eyes. I gulped as he hit the gas with full force, sending us flying through the forest. The speedometer spun quickly to over one hundred and I rolled my eyes, then rolled up my window, nearly choking on the wind coming inside the car.
"Now, when we get there go ahead, socialize, just not with any males that aren't your family members, Little Mate. The bond we have is strong and I will surely kill that man," he growls protectively. I gasp.
"You wouldn't," I shot back.
"I wouldn't be able to stop myself," he replies simply, shrugging before the long ride conversation stopped abruptly, only the sound of the tires against the road filling he car and the occasional bumping sound from the two suitcases in the back.
I squeal awkwardly when I notice the border that I first patrolled on as a smaller girl. I make Xander stop the car and I throw the car door open, running out and smelling the scents that I had grown familiar with growing up. I let my outfit blow in the faint breeze as I climbed up my favorite hill, and gazed upon the pack house and the alpha house, the house where I once lived right next to it. I jump and run down the slope, heading towards the forest that surrounded the pack main ground. Xander followed behind, amused with my excitement. Suddenly growls erupted from the undergrowth and out jumped two figures: a brown wolf and a darker brown wolf with black fur lining some of its back. My dad and Jonas. I smile and they shift behind the bushes, coming back out fully clothed. I hug them and Xander watches, his eyes shifting protectively from my arms wrapped around my brother and dad then the two males.
"I thought I would never see you again, honey," dad whispered, tears brimming his eyes. "When Jonas said that Alpha Laven had picked you up as his mate, the whole pack freaked out."
Jonas removed himself from the hug and looked to Xander. "If I find out that you abused or hurt Chayse in any way, you're dead," he growled. Xander looked offended.
I pull away from dad and shove Jonas so he falls on his butt. "Don't say that, Clumsy Foot." Clumsy Foot was what we called Jonas only because the rest of his body was stable- except for his one foot that just wouldn't keep him balanced. Dad chuckled and nodded at Xander before guiding us to the guest house. I let Xander in, but stayed out of the house. "Where's Eliza?"
Jonas shrugged and pointed down the road. "House 217 is theirs, check there."
I raced down the dirt path and smiled, remembering the roads like I was here just yesterday. It felt like such a long time, for four days being gone. I slid slightly as I turned down the two hundred houses, moving as fast as I could past pups and older men and women who didn't work anymore. I found 217 and knocked on the door.
Eliza actually answered the door, but I suddenly remember my scent wasn't the same. She growled slightly through the door and James came beside her I assumed, hearing his footsteps. "Alpha Laven, we were told you were arriving today," Eliza spoke, opening the door blindly.
"Um, one thing is wrong," I muttered, looking at her. Tears brimmed her eyes, and tears brimmed mine as well. James shrugged and left to go back into the house, disappearing around a corner. "It's Luna Laven, actually." She embraced me tightly.
"Told you, you would get a mate. Sorry it had to be Alpha Laven though," she muttered.
"No, no! He's nice! He's wonderful! Not as bad as his image portrays!" I defend, shaking my hands. "He's changed for the better," I repeat from the night before. Eliza looked skeptical. She noticed the mark and gasped.
"Did he force himself on you?" she whispered, looking around for anyone near.
I chuckle. "Nope."
"Then let's go training like we used to! Have you any new skills?" she yelled like a English knight from a medieval movie. I smirked.
"Don't I always?" I snapped playfully, walking with her down the road to the training gym.
