Chapter 10

WHEN they got to town, Kathleen almost winced because of the amount of people she saw.

"What's with that face? Are you acting again?" Gabrielle turned to her after turning off the car's engine.

"I'm not! You're really judgmental! I was just surprised because I thought your place was very remote, because the houses were far away. Then I'll see here, there are still a lot of people," she answered while still focusing attention on people who are busy in their lives.

"You're just ignorant," Gabrielle commented to her with a frown. She squinted and rolled her eyes at him. And before she could react, he immediately went outside of the car. She just sighed in annoyance. She also got out of the car. She looked for Gabrielle and was surprised because he was right behind her.

"Damn it!" she moaned weakly while touching her chest.

"Avoid drinking so much coffee. You're getting too nervous," Gabrielle said while frowning at her again.

She was so annoyed and that caused her to be trampled by her feet. She was even stunned when Gabrielle grabbed her hand and pulled her into the market. While walking straight to the market. She can't stop staring at her hand being held by a man. It was her first time and she kind of felt weird, yet warm.

"Look where you are going Kathleen," said Gabrielle so she looked up. He didn't move and he continued to walk while pulling her.

"What are you going to buy?" She asked because she's curious about it.

"Solar panels," he replied sparingly.

"Why do you need that? You have electricity, don't you?"

"There's not. We use solar panels and it broke last night."

"I really thought you had electricity. Why didn't you try to reconnect from the mainline? Just call a lineman to fix it."

"Actually, we did have it though. But I temporarily asked the lineman to cut the supply." Kathleen immediately frowned.

"What? Why!?"

"For you not to be able to whine on me using your gadgets," said Gabrielle as he scolded her.

Because of what he said, she suddenly got annoyed and withdrew her hand. He didn't react and turned his back on her. It started walking and she was annoyed to just follow him.

Until they reach hardware. Gabrielle talked immediately to one of the sales ladies. While waiting for Gabrielle, a store with so many good things to buy, took her attention. She approached that store and looked around at the store's products.

"You want to buy something?" Gabrielle suddenly appeared behind her.

"You don't give me any money," she answered grumpily.

Gabrielle rolled his eyes at her and took a one thousand bill from his pocket. He also quickly handed her the money. Kathleen excitedly took it and immediately picked the ones she wanted. He bought sandals and two dresses. She also bought clothes for mother Susana. After that she returned to the adjacent hardware. But she immediately frowned because Gabrielle was no longer there. She tightly held the bag she was carrying and the extra money in her left hand.

"Now where the hell is he!?" she exclaims in annoyance to the void.

But she suddenly remembered. They bet on a game and this is her chance to escape. She quickly stepped back and immediately asked where she could ride. She was guided everywhere until she reached the bus terminal. She read every signed board and when she finally saw the Davao sign board. She quickly asked the conductor if they had a trip today. Sad to say, the bus is broken and under repair. The conductor also told her that she would have to wait an hour or two, to board the next ride. Kathleen was annoyed to be trampled on her feet again. How can she leave now if the next trip is still a long time away. She blew out the air in annoyance. She sat on the bench and did nothing but wait for an hour or two.

After a while, someone suddenly stood beside her. She immediately raised her head. She didn't know the man standing next to her but she felt different about him. Feels like this man is about to do something bad to her. She stands up and pretends to wait for someone. But Kathleen was just that surprised when the man suddenly pulled her. She was held tight and she also froze when she felt someone poke her side. Her eyes widened.

"Don't move or you'll die!" the man who held her strongly threatened her. Kathleen swallowed hard and gasped some light air.

"What do you want from me!? I don't have much money! Are you going to rob me?" said Kathleen. Her knees were starting to shake. She's really nervous and she thinks, anytime she might collapse!

"Shut up! You're speaking too much!"

"And you're really blaming me for why I am whining right now!? You're serious about that, aren't you?" Kathleen said angrily to the man.

"Shut up! Why are you making so much noise!? Where is your rich boyfriend!" He spoke angrily to her. She was stunned by what she heard.

"What kind of boyfriend are you talking about!? Hey! I don't have a boyfriend yet! Over my dead body!" she answered, annoyed. Suddenly the man pressed the knife he was holding on her waist.

"Stop!? That might injure me!" she worriedly spoke to the man.

"I am really going to hurt you if you haven't called that guy you were with earlier! Admit that he's your boyfriend!"

"Eh! You're so stupid! I said that's not my boyfriend! Are you deaf!?"

"I don't care if that's your boyfriend or not! Just call him!"

"I don't have a cell phone! Are you blind!?" Kathleen almost yelled at the strange man.

"Why are you angry too!?"

"Why are you so angry too!? Are you abnormal!?"

"Damn it! You're too noisy!"

"You're a mess too!" Kathleen answered this annoyingly.

Suddenly, Gabrielle came and he was just looking at them with his arms folded. He frowned at the man.

"You! Isn't this girl your girlfriend!? Give me the money or else I'll punch a hole in her belly!" the man said angrily to Gabrielle again. Gabrielle just smirked at the old man.

"She's not my girlfriend," said Gabrielle.

"You're a son of a b***h! Are you going to lie to me too? Do you two have a fight, huh?"

"You know what mister whoever you are, you're really a mess! He already said I'm not his girlfriend! That man!? Will be my boyfriend!? Never!"

Kathleen was feeling so furious and frustrated right now. Gabrielle is not doing anything and she might be in danger if he won't do something.

"Shut up! I'm not talking to you!"

"She's not my girlfriend—but she's my maid," Gabrielle said.

Suddenly, Kathleen's nose scrunched up when she heard that from Gabrielle.

"What the f**k are you saying!?" she snorted angrily at Gabrielle.

Gabrielle just looked at her with a smug on his face. Kathleen clenched her fists. In her anger, she stepped on the foot of the man who was holding her. After she got out of his hands, she quickly kicked his balls. The strange man immediately fell to the floor while writhing in pain because of what she did to kneel on the foundation of its population. Kathleen then faced Gabrielle. Her gaze was full of anger.

"How dare you call me your maid! I'm so beautiful! And yet you're just going to make me your maid! You're a jerk!" she said pointing at Gabrielle.

She wasn't satisfied yet and she hit him on the arm. Gabrielle just chuckled at her. Kathleen hurriedly walked out in front of Gabrielle. She headed back where his car was parked.
