They went to the same ale house they’d gone to the night of the accident. They didn’t get the same waitress or the same booth, but Jonathan had enjoyed the burger so much last time that he ordered the same one again. No beers this time, though. Peter followed his lead and also ordered a Coke instead of a brewsky. As they ate, they talked about work—no jokes on this second date. With grant season looming over their heads, they had too much to focus on, and they hoped to submit an unprecedented ten grants in April. Jonathan would be writing four of them himself, despite his injuries.
