She could hear the sounds of the other passengers coming aboard. When they were out of the Harbour, they were told that there was a bowl of soup obtainable at eleven o’clock. It was then that Zarina had her first sight of the other travellers. The soup, which was thin and not particularly appetising, was being wolfed down by a motley collection of Asians. Also there were three or four Englishmen who looked as if they were commercial travellers. There was only one other woman besides Zarina and she was an Indian, carrying a small baby in her arms. When Zarina and Rolfe appeared, the other passengers stared at them in a way that was embarrassing. Two of the Englishmen nudged each other in the ribs and one of them said something about Zarina that made them both laugh. She and Rolfe dr
