Chapter Eight

Harper I froze in the shadows as the door to the bar swung open, letting out a burst of noise and a second layer Jett. I opened my mouth to say hello, a small smile on my face but the words froze on my lips. He wasn’t alone. His tattoo cover arm was flung around the shoulders of a giggling , hot pant wearing blonde. Even in the darkness I could see him pawing at her ass. Shit. My heart plummeted into my toes. I had no right to be jealous. He had said it wasn’t a date. He had made that perfectly clear but seeing him as he helped the woman onto his bike made bike rise up in my throat. Tears prickled my eyes and I didn’t even know why. He hadn’t asked me on a date, he had said as friends so why did seeing him with another woman gut me? And what the hell was I doing wanting a man like that anyway? He wasn’t going to help me. He was just out for one thing. As proven by him driving off with any skank who would drop her panties for him as soon as he asked. Shaking my head I watched as his bike roared to life. The blondes giggles even louder than the throaty engine. “Hi” The voice made me jump. I hadn’t even noticed the man who had made his way out behind the happy couple. “Harper right?” His arms were crossed over a muscular chest. T shirt stretched tight. Was every member of Jetts crew a solid ten on the hotness scale? Was it a requirement to join his little gang. “Yeah” “You could have called out to him, he has been waiting for you all evening” He straightened “I’m Bat by the way” “I was just hoping to grab a drink before I headed home” I shrugged. Turning to leave. “Ah that we can do, why not come in and raise a glass to my birthday with me. I’ll phone Jett and get him back” He motioned with his arm to the doorway. “A drink does sound good” I gave him a wry smile as he pushed open the door, holding it open so I could slide through. “But there’s no need to phone Jett. I wouldn’t want to interrupt his date when I am only staying for the one” “Ok , I could never go against a ladies wishes. Especially not one as pretty as you” Slapping his hand on the bar he yelled. “More drinks , and shots and what ever Harper wants as well” “Harper” My feet left the floor as strong arms lifted me from behind. Boozy breath brushing across my cheek. “Jetts girl” I turned, he looked familiar. Pursing my lips I swept my eyes over him. “That’s Bane, you met him earlier” Bat said from his perch holding up the bar. Just how much had these guys had to drink? “He’s a moron” He didn’t even look up from his furious tapping on his phone. He grinned when he saw me looking. “You text him didn’t you?” Why did I want him to say yes so badly? Why did I want Jett to bounce through that door, blonde forgotten? Because I was a god damn fool that’s why. “Just to make sure he got back to the club house in one piece” He winked and I wasn’t fooled in the slightest. No way did these men check up on each other like that. They just weren’t the cute and fluffy type. “What are you drinking Harper?” “Anything” I shrugged again but my eyes strayed to the door, more and more people were leaving. The sound of bikes reverberated through the air. “Everyone’s leaving?” Bat nodded. “Party will continue at the club house” He pushed the shot glass towards me with a nod. “You are welcome to come along” I shook my head. It had been stupid to come here in the first place , I wasn’t about to go riding off to god knows where with a bunch of bikers just so I could party. And have Jett rub my face in the fact he was banging someone else. “No thanks, I’m gonna head home. Well you know” “Well the least I can do is make sure get home safely, either me or Bane will walk you back” “That’s really not needed , but thank you” I rose from the stool. Smoothing down the skirt of my uniform and his eyes tracked the movement. Typical man. “And thank you for the drink” I slammed the shot back. “Hope you have a great birthday party Bat, it’s been great to meet you” “Jett wouldn’t like you walking yourself home Harper” I turned . I wasn’t too happy about walking around in the dark on my own either but I couldn’t rely on these men. Something told me they were even more dangerous than the man I was running from. “Jett isn’t here” I gave him a small wave and pushed open the door stepping out into the cool summer night.
