BLYNA
.
I woke up to the sound of birds chirping loudly. They sounded happy and free unlike me who had the entire world on my shoulders. The morning sun peeked its way through the curtains of my room. The light reflected through the wooden framed windows, hitting the bed where I laid still with my eyes wide open. I groaned at the impact and turned to face the opposite direction. My mind wandering, my brain calculating.
There, my gaze landed on the dark blue and white uniform that was neatly arranged at the corner. It was a slave's vest. I know because I had seen them wearing it when I arrived yesterday but I wondered who had put them there when I was asleep last night because I didn't hear anyone come in.
Great! Another thing to worry about, no privacy. I shouldn't expect much seeing that this would be my life from here onward.
"...If you are back here for revenge, then I’m sorry to disappoint you, but I am not going to let that happen, ever...”
Griffith's words kept me up all night. Not because it had a romanticized meaning to it but because I couldn't decipher if he was onto me or not. If he keeps at it then it's only going to be a matter of minutes before he figures me out and I'm not prepared to let that happen. I have to be careful if I'm to survive in this pack and carry out my mission because one wrong move can ruin everything that I had planned.
Pushing the thin layer of an excuse of a blanket, I rolled out of bed and made my way towards the bathroom. It wasn't fancy like what I was used to growing up but I've seen worse so this would have to do. Stepping out of my clothes, I turned on the shower and stood under the water as it cascaded down my naked body in heavy droplets.
Today would be my first day serving in this pack. It is going to be the beginning of my new life. A journey that I had waited for a very long time. I know that it won't be rosy but at least, I'd have to persevere and figure it out as I go if I have to survive. I finished with the shower and threw on my uniform. Just as I am about to put on the finishing touches, I heard a loud and persistent knock on my door.
Taking steady steps, I walked towards the door and twisted the door knob open and there, standing outside my bedroom door was the same maid from yesterday. The one who was tasjef with the responsibility of showing me around.
"Good morning." I greeted politely but the look on her face told me that she wasn't interested in whatever I had just said. I took note of her uniform. It was slightly different from ours so it dawned on me that she might be one of the head maids. Why am I not surprised at her attitude?
"This isn't your father's house Blyna so you'd have to stick to the rules. One of which is waking up when you're supposed to." Her words stung but I tried not to let it get to me.
"If this repeats itself for the second time, then I'll have you reported t the head guard and you'll be working overtime in the mines. Understood?"
I was fighting the urge to retaliate but I didn't want to stir up any trouble on my first day so I took a deep breath instead.
"Yes. I understand." I answered plainly.
"The alpha king has sent for you." She informed me. Her gaze pinned on mine. "He is in his study. Do not keep him waiting." And with that, she walked out of my sight but her anger was the least of my problems. Why would the Griffith send for me? And so early in the morning at that?
Gathering up courage and wits, I made my way towards his room. I am familiar with the structure of this place because not much has changed since I left. I arrived and after taking a deep breath, I proceeded to knock on the door.
"Come in." I heard his voice, ushering me in so I twisted the knob and the door gave way. I went through the door and that's where I saw him seated on his desk with a pen in his hand as he worked through the files that were littered on his table.
Putting on a straight face, I approached his desk. "Good morning Alpha king. You sent for me." I held my hands together as I waited for his further instruction but there was none. If I didn't know any better, I'd think that I was invincible or something but I know that he was ignoring me on purpose.
I stood there on the spot. Minutes turned hours and he still didn't say anything to me. Instead, he flipped through the papers in front of him without a care in the world. With each passing moment, my legs had already started to hurt from standing for so long.
"Is there anything that you'd like me to do for you Alpha king?" I said through gritted teeth. He was slowly getting on my nerves and I honestly don't know what he was trying to achieve by doing this. I didn't want to say anything in anger so I tried to maintain my cool.
"Alpha—" My voice had gone up a monotone and that's when he slowly raised his head to regard my presence with an amused smirk on his face.
"Oh I'm sorry Blyna. I didn't hear you walk in." He rambled on while i am trying to hold onto the last thread of my sanity. "I'm not used to people coming into my room so early in the morning so why are you here?"
I blinked viciously. "You sent for me."
"Ah!" He exclaimed, then proceeded twirl his pen around his fingers as though he had forgotten. "I must have forgotten about that." He eyed me closely. His eyes raking me from head to toe. "Your new uniform looks good on you though. It suits you, don't you think?" He asked but I didn't respond.
"It's more you and it defines your status, your place in this pack." If his intent was to rile me up, then he'd have to do better. He must've forgotten but I'm not that naive, little Blyna that he knew years ago. The person standing in front of him was a reformed person. I had received a lot of backlash throughout the years so his petty little comments would not get through to me no matter how much he tried.
"Anyways..." He started when I didn't make any comments to his previous remark. "The flowers in my room are withered, making my room dull and utterly boring because I haven't had the time to change them. Do me a favour and replace them with fresh ones if you don't mind Blyna."
I darted my eyes towards the empty flower pots scattered around his bedroom. I wondered why he couldn't get someone else to do it but I didn't say anything because I didn't want to indulge him.
"Okay." I answered and set to work almost immediately. I picked up the heavy pots and took them outside to empty them and when I was done, I cleaned it up and went in search of fresh flowers. I planted them neatly, taking my time to do it properly before taking them back into his bedroom. By the time I was finished, my back had already started to ache so badly. My shoulders hurts from carrying all that stuff.
"Your new flower pots are ready Alpha king." I announced after placing the last one in its position. Griffith took one last look at them and his face stretched into an unpleasant frown.
"What's the meaning of this?" He asked, pointing to the flowers that I had picked out for him. "I asked you to replace the flowers and you came back with this?"
"You didn't really specify—"
"Change them." He ordered bluntly. "All of them. I need beautiful, colorful and well scented flowers in my bedroom Blyna so do your job properly."
I fisted my hands beside me and with a wry smile, I set out to do as I was told. It took me an extra hour to find more flowers to change the ones I had put before to get the job done.
"Your flowers are ready Alpha king." I announced for the second time that morning. He observed his bedroom and nodded his head with a half baked smile on his lips.
"Go ahead and clean up my desk." He started. "I didn't have time to sort through the papers yesterday. Clean up the desk, arrange the files and put them in order."
"But you're busy." I primped. "How am I supposed to clean when you're working on it?"
He darted his eyes at me. "Be strategic then. You of all people should know how to do that or are you stupid enough not to?"
I swallowed hard at his comment. Each and every word he spewed from his mouth hit a nerve but I shrugged it off. I couldn't fathom that there was once a time when I was madly in love with this man. I must have been so stupid then.
"Get to it then!" His words jolted me back from my quick reverie and I picked up a cleaning rag to carry out his bidding.
"Oh and I woke up with a migraine so I'd appreciate it if you do it quietly without making a single squeak otherwise I wouldn't be able to focus properly and you would be punished severely for it."
I am tempted to scoff at his attitude but I decided against it. Not today. Definitely not today. I cleaned out his desk after sorting through the files on the table. When I was done arranging and organizing his desk, he asked me to get him a fresh pot of ink as the new one he was using was nearly finished.
I did as I was told. No questions asked. My morning as well as my afternoon was spent on running meaningless errands and I was certain that he was doing it on purpose. It suddenly hit me that I haven't even had breakfast yet.
I got back with the ink and I was tasked with sorting out the books on his shelves and arranging them alphabetically and in order. The books were already neatly arranged but according to him, he wanted to try out a new system so I had to do it. Everything he did only made my resolve stronger.
Just then, he stood up from his seat and his pen dropped to the ground. I didn't know if he did it intentionally or by accident to get to me. I stared at the pen a little longer before shifting my gaze.
"Are you waiting for an official order before you pick it up?"
I paused through my work. Surely he wasn't talking to me.
"Go ahead and do your job Blyna." He repeated. I narrowed my eyes at the object on the ground and walked towards him before bending down slowly to pick it up. Just as I tried to stand up, he held my chin with his index finger and slowly guided my head up. I panicked but tried not to show it. My eyes met his and I saw his lips stretch into an amused grin. I suddenly felt nervous about everything but i knew this was what I was going to have to do for my goal to be achieved, I wouldn’t let myself be intimidated because it could ruin my chances to succeed and be successful. I was determined now and I wouldn't back off.
He bent down to my level and meticulously took the pen from my grasp. He brought his face closer to mine and whispered softly Into my ears "Tell me Blyna, is this your idea of a revenge?"
He shifted back a bit. "How pitiful and pathetic" He mocked me. "If your heart is still set on a revenge then I'd advice you to let it go because you won't succeed. I won't let you succeed. I am prepared to be an obstacle In your path if I have to my darling so drop it." He added while staring into my eyes with intensity. He released my face and gave me a nod to leave his study, which i did, shutting the door behind me whist fuming in anger.
"I promise to make you all pay Griffin. And by the life in me, I would bring you all down to your knees. Mark my words!" I made a solemn promise to myself before storming away.
