The darkness

BLYNA . "You're needed by Lady Audrey in her bed chamber right now!" I whipped my head towards the direction of the maid that had just come to deliver that message. "But I'm busy." I pointed out to her. "I'm not done with—" "I don't care." She snapped at me in disgust. "Her lady has sent for you so abandon everything you're doing and go to her immediately." I sighed deeply. How on earth does she need me in less than five minutes when I have not completed the last two errands she sent me. This past week has been nothing but pure torture for me. Audrey had taken it upon herself to make my life miserable. She didn't lie when she threatened me that my life would only get worse. I had faced all sorts of trials and tribulations ever since the last meeting we had in the courtroom. She had a whole arsenal of methods for making me accomplish difficult and horrendous tasks. And I can't complain because if I did then she would make it seem as if I was trying to attack her. At this point, I am beginning to wonder if coming back to this pack was a great idea after all. "Did you hear me?" The maid's voice snapped me out of my thoughts. "She is asking for you and the more you delay, the more she gets upset." The maid left and I quickly discarded what I was doing and headed towards her bed chamber. It amused me at how much effort Audrey was putting in to make my life difficult. I didn't expect less from a spoilt brat who made it her life mission to ruin my family so instead of breaking down, I had promised myself to focus on the task of her brothers instead and try my very best to avoid her for as long as I can. I arrived and knocked on her door but I didn't get a response. I could hear noise and sounds coming from inside so I knew that she was ignoring me on purpose. Left with no other choice, I twisted the door knob and let myself in. I found Audrey seated on her desk while the other maids took turns to wash and polish her nails. "I didn't ask you to come in, did I?" She asked, staring at her well manicured nails in careful inspection before shoving it back to the maid to continue her work on them. "One of the maids said that you wanted to see me." I answered instead, purposely ignoring her previous remark. "You didn't answer my question." Her voice was undeniably calm and for some reason, I do not like it. When she's like this, it only means that she's plotting something. "Did I ask you to come inside my bedroom Blyna?" I swallowed. "No my lady. You did not." She nodded slowly then proceeded to pick up a slice of apple and placed it in her mouth to chew. "Get out of my room and knock again. Don't come inside until I ask you to." She ordered without sparing me a single glance. I blinked twice and with my head slightly bowed to the ground, I made my way outside her bedroom to knock as she had requested. I stood there for minutes, waiting for her approval but knowing Audrey, I was damn sure that I wouldn't be getting it anytime soon. She would definitely take her time and would only let me in when she felt like it. My legs were already hurting from standing too much but who was I to complain? An hour past and just as I am about to give up hope, she requests that I come in to see her. "You sent for me my lady." I repeated and she dismissed the other maids present in the room leaving just the two of us together. "Is there anything that I can help you with?" She looked around, obviously bored. "Nothing really. You can get back to whatever you were doing before I called you here." "What?!" I blurted out loud and she strode towards me with a smirk on her face. She inched her face closer to mine and whispered softly. "If you didn't want to experience all of this then you shouldn't have come back here but you did." She stood a few feet away. "The maids were supposed to do the laundry for Griffith and Collins. I'm being generous so you should do it all by yourself today don't you think? You may leave." I gave her a curt nod before exiting her chambers. The late alpha must've done a whole lot of horrible things in his life for the goddess to to make him the father of such stupid children. I couldn't wait to get back at them. I was certain that when the time was right, I'd have the last laugh. I arrived at the storage room and took the laundry basket to the wash house. I heard the other maids gossiping about me but I didn't care. They were all the least of my problems. I have bigger fish to fry and sadly, they weren't even part of it. When I got to the wash house, I took my time to separate the dirty clothes from the ones that needed mending. Halfway through, I heard the sound of preceding footsteps approaching the wash house. Just before I could assimilate what was happening, I saw Audrey emerge into the wash house with her maids behind her. I felt a knot of unease in the depths of my stomach as I saw her piercing gaze giving me a distasteful look. I knew that she was up to something by coming here but I was determined to focus on my task even with the built up tension In the air around me. "Do you need anything my lady?" I proceeded to ask because I knew that she was not the type to step foot here. "I only came here to make sure that you weren't causing any trouble." She said in an amused response. "Most people tends to ruin other people's things to get back at someone who wronged them so I'm making sure that my brother's clothes are spared from your wrath." "If you say so." I muttered to myself and went further to ignore her as I sorted through the laundry. Deep down, I was quietly counting numbers in my head to steel myself against all negativity around me so that Audrey wouldn't be able to get through to me no matter how much she tried. She traced her hands on the wooden fence of the wash room. "You know, I still find it odd that you came back to this pack after all the cruelty that was melted to you and your mother. Don't you find it rather strange?" She rambled but I pretended to ignore her words. I'm not in the mood for her tantrums anyways. "You're definitely up to something Blyna." She pointed out. "You have a motive for coming back here and I will figure it out so that I can kick you out of this pack because you don't belong here and no matter what you do, you will never be liked by anyone here." I tightened my hands around the dirty laundry but tried to keep my face steady and devoid of any emotions as I let her go on in hopes that she would tire herself out and leave willingly. "It's so sad but what can I say?" She tsked. "I guess traitors and cowardliness runs in the family. That's why your father was apprehended anyways." Letting go of the clothes, I turned to face her squarely. "What did you say?" She smirked. "What? Can't you handle the truth? Your father was a traitor and a coward and his death was well deserved." I scrunched my face in anger as I stared at her with a hauty chin. My nose flared up in anger. "Don't you ever talk bad about my father Audrey. You have no right!" "Or you would do what?" She asked. Before I could respond, she slapped me hard across my face that I tasted blood. "Go ahead and fight back of you can Blyna. I dare you!" I was fuming in anger as I held onto my bruised cheek. I made a decision not to do anything that'll jeopardize my mission and I won't stop now so I chose to ignore but before I could assimilate what was happening, she grabbed me by my hair forcefully and pushed me to the ground. I felt my scalp burning from the pain of being pulled so hard. I tried to stand on my feet but she lunged towards me. The force of the attack knocked us both off balance and we both tumbled on the floor grappling with each other. Driven by my need to defend my father's honour, I fought back against Audrey's aggression. The struggle was fierce that it had us clawing and pushing at each other as we were both determined to get the upper hand. Audrey got an opportunity and bit down on my shoulder. I screamed out in pain and that's when I noticed that her claws had elongated and she was about to make a shift. She immediately grabbed me by the neck and pressed on really hard causing me to choke at the impact. I felt her nails dig into my skin as I slowly began to loose consciousness. Just before I passed out, I saw something or rather someone push Audrey off of me and just then, I gave into the darkness.
