Chapter Eight As Marie exited her apartment building at exactly the time she’d been instructed to a glossy black limousine pulled to a stop in the street right in front of her. She picked her way carefully down the stone steps. There had been a brief rain shower a little while ago, and the steps could be slippery. It didn’t help that she was wearing the black stiletto heels she’d bought two years ago and worn exactly twice before today. By the time she got to the sidewalk the limo driver had gotten out and was holding the rear door open for her. A gust of cold wind blew down the street, almost hard enough to cause her to stumble in her unfamiliar heels. The driver saw that and hurried over to help. “Thanks,” Marie smiled at him.
