The next day, it was the beginning of their Lunch break as Skylar walked over to Alexandra, the pair heading out to the field to find a sunny spot to eat their food. Leaning her back against a tree, Alexandra took a big bite of her turkey mayo sandwich as she eyed her friend expectantly.
‘What?’ Skylar asked finally, her own sandwich halted just in front of her mouth.
‘I heard a rumour that our future Alpha has made himself a new Omega friend’ Alexandra replied with a smirk.
Skylar sighed, ‘you hear correctly, and said omega did not ask for not want his friendship but it seems she is not getting a choice in the matter’ she grumbled as she bit down on her sandwich ripping through the bread with her teeth in frustration.
‘Hey, maybe your popularity will increase, you know, being close to one of the hottest guys in school, according to the pack she wolves, they will all want to be friends with you’ Alexandra offered as she snorted with laughter.
Rolling her eyes Skylar shrugged, ‘I think I'm more likely to be stabbed in the girls toilet’s by his fan club’ she replied bitterly.
Alexandra laughed at the Omega’s words, ‘I'm pretty sure no-one is that besotted with the big headed Alpha that they would stab you’ she sniggered, ‘lets be honest, you aren’t that much of a threat to them’ she added helpfully as Skylar growled at her, flipping her finger up at her, causing the young werewolf to fall on her back on the grass, her mirth overtaking her.
‘It’s OK for you! You have warrior parents! Everyone knows that your wolf is going to be a strong a*s kicker so they don’t bother you, I have Omega parents, I get rubbish now before I've even met my weak a*s wolf’ Skylar moaned, throwing a crisp from her packet at her mate.
Sitting up, Alexandra grinned as she shifted over to her best friend, ‘look if anyone tries to stab you in the toilets I will rip their heads off, OK?’ she said giving the Omega a one armed hug.
‘You better do, you still owe me for letting you copy our algebra homework because you were too busy playing tonsil tennis with that senior’ Skylar grumped back.
Standing up, Alexandra brushed the dirt from her jeans with her hands as the bell rang to signal the end of lunch, Skylar scrambling up beside her and the pair headed back into the building for their next lesson. Waving goodbye to each other, Alexandra headed off toward her Biology lesson, Skylar dragging her feet in the other direction toward the English block and an hour of t*****e reading Shakespeare.
Flopping into her chair at the back of the room, she groaned loudly as she dumped her bag onto her desk and started to pull out ‘A midsummer night’s dream’. Glaring at it angrily, she dropped it onto her desk as the seat next to her scraped back and Jackson sat in the seat next to her, raising an eyebrow at her sullen face.
‘What’s bitten your tail this afternoon?’ he asked as Skylar let out a low frustrated growl.
‘Shakespeare’ she spat angrily, ‘that man must have hated high school students while he was alive.’
‘What’s wrong with Shakespeare?’ Jackson asked starting to chuckle, ‘he was the king of romance Sky, you can’t possibly hate him.’
Skylar rolled her eyes, ‘i can and I do’ she retorted, ‘how can anyone understand a word he wrote? Thou hast to get a dictionary to understand anything he’s waffling on about’ she grumbled.
Jackson shook his head in amusement, before grabbing her hand in his and proclaiming loudly, ‘Skylar, the lady doth protest to much, methinks! how harder than a serpent’s tooth it is to have a thankless child! Lord, what a fool this mortal be!’
Skylar pulled her hand out of his, her face burning as he started to chuckle, ‘show off’ she grumbled, grabbing her book and hiding her face behind it.
‘Ahh you just need to give my man Shakespeare a chance he knew his stuff Sky, you just haven’t opened your heart to his words’ Jackson replied playfully.
Grumbling, Skylar tried to tune the Alpha out as he continued to whisper random Shakespearean quotes at her until the professor strode in and called for silence.
‘Today, you will pair up and write your own Shakesperean scene’ the professor announced to a room full of groans. Some of the popular girls trying to catch Jackson’s eye excitedly as he studiously ignored them and turned to Skylar with a broad grin.
‘Looks like it’s you and me partner’ he grinned as Skylar groaned, burying her face into the crook of her arm on top of her desk. ‘Come on, it’ll be fun’ Jackson cajoled, the Omega shaking her head, refusing to look up until the Alpha jabbed her in the side with his finger causing her to jump with a squeal that she desperately tried to convert into a cough as every pair of eyes turned to her.
‘Is everything OK Miss Parker?’ the professor asked sternly, glaring at Skylar who slumped down in her chair.
‘Yes sir’ she replied, desperate to sink into the floor.
‘We were just discussing the start of our scene sir’ Jackson added as the other females faces went from shock to jealousy as they all scowled at Skylar’s half hidden body.
‘Well try to keep the noise to a minimum Mr Black’ the professor replied, his voice taking a much more respectful tone that caused Skylar’s to roll her eyes.
‘Teachers pet’ she muttered as Jackson chuckled, pulling out his notepad and pen and looking over at her expectantly.
Raising her eyebrows, Skylar shook her head, ‘hell no, don’t be looking at me, Shakespeare is your man remember? Me and him are not even on first name terms, we’re not even at nodding when we see each other in the hall terms! You think of something’ she grumbled as Jackson shrugged with a smirk and started to write.
Once each pair had written their scene the professor dropped on to them that they would all have to act their scene out for the rest of the class at the next lesson. ‘Practice your scene with your partner before our next lesson’ he ordered as sighs echoed round the room and the students filed out of the classroom.
‘Looks like we’ll be sending time together at the pack house then’ Jackson said as the Omega looked up at him exasperatedly.
‘Am I some sort of bet you have going on with the jocks or something?’ she asked desperately, ‘if it is can you just tell them you won? I'll totally back you up and say what ever was meant to happen happened’ she added hopefully.
Jackson shook his head, ‘I don’t have a bet with my friends, why can’t you accept that I want to know you?’ he asked, his voice taking a slight edge.
‘Because I'm an Omega and you are an Alpha! I don’t fit in your world of power and . . ‘she shouted, trying to search for the right word, ‘a*s hole stuck upped ness’ she finally finished, her face reddening slightly as she dropped her gaze.
Jackson stared at her for a moment before saying softly, ‘well maybe I don’t want to be a part of that world either, maybe I prefer the world where an Omega who doesn’t fall all over me because of who my father is, treats me like a normal person and lets me be her friend’ he muttered, his shoulders dropping slightly as he walked away from her, leaving the Omega stood alone in the hallway watching his back until he disappeared into the crowd.
Skylar couldn’t concentrate for the rest of her lessons, the Alpha’s face, his sadness ate away at her until she felt so guilty she knew she had to apologise or she wouldn't sleep that night.
After school, she made her way through the hallways looking for Jackson, finally spotting him as he was exiting the building surrounded by his fan club. Trailing after them, the Omega hesitantly stalked the group until the reached Jackson’s red convertible, the girls all flirting with him in the hope of getting offered a ride before finally leaving him with longing looks that he ignored.
Waiting for them to get out of earshot she finally mustered up her courage, ‘Jackson . . uh I mean Jack’ she called out quietly, though the werewolf had no problem hearing her and spun round to face her immediately.
‘Hey, what are you doing talking to me? You wouldn’t want anyone to see you talking to such a stuck up a*s hole’ he muttered sullenly making Skylar’s stomach twist.
‘I’m sorry’ she suddenly blurted out, ‘I don’t think you are an a*s hole or stuck up, I actually think you are pretty cool but I'm struggling to see what you would see in me.’ She stared at him for a moment before dropping her gaze to the floor, her cheeks flushed.
Jackson stood for a moment before opening the passenger door, ‘get in’ he mumbled, Skylar looking up at him and then at the car before back at him in bewilderment.
‘Huh?’ she asked before cursing herself for her complete inability to speak.
‘Get . . In . . ‘ Jackson replied, sweeping his hand toward the passenger seat as if to give her a visual idea.
Hesitantly, Skylar walked over and slid into the seat, Jackson shutting the door as she placed her feet in the foot well and jogging around to the other side, clambering behind the steering wheel and starting the engine.
‘Where are we going?’ Skylar asked, peeking at the Alpha out of the corner of her eye.
‘To the pack house, to practice our scene’ Jackson replied with a grin as he backed out of his parking space and set off toward the pack house.
