Chapter 13To his surprise, and relief, Gavril was waiting for him when he reached the village. He waved at his friend, the sight of the wagon lending a spring to his step. “Are you going to give me a lift up to the cottage?” he asked, and Gavril nodded. “I shouldn’t have taken my bad humour out on my friends.” Gavril shrugged at the quizzical look Edison gave him. “I’m not in the mood to speak of it now. But you’re a friend. One I trust. Maybe at the weekend when work is behind you.” That Gavril would so openly declare his friendship and offer to talk to him about something that clearly troubled him, had a flush of shame heat Edison’s blood.
