Chapter 8: Day Eight
***
“Do you just stay at home all the time?” Edward asked as he closed the book he was reading and looked at the author who was still working.
“Mostly… I don’t really have anything to do on my days off besides work.” Mason answered without taking his eyes away from the screen.
“Do you want to go out today then?” Edward asked with a smile on his face.
“Another date with Lucas and Mick?” Mason questioned as he continued to tap his fingertips on the keyboard.
“Yeah.” Edward confirmed.
“Alright, I need to complete this chapter and we can go.”
“Do you want coffee?” Edward asked as he stood up and went to take out two mugs.
“Sure, thanks.” Mason quickly replied as he continued typing.
“Do you want milk and sugar in it?” Edward asked as he plugged in the coffee machine and turned it on.
“Yes.” The author gave a one worded answer without even glancing at the other person’s direction.

After about five minutes or so the coffee was ready and Edward served it on the table. “You done yet?” he asked the author.
“Yep.” Mason answered as he saved his chapter on a Word File and closed his laptop. He stretched out his hands and back. “Agh… I’ve been sitting on that chair for too long, hurts… What time is it anyway?” The author complained.
“It’s ten o’clock at night.” Edward replied as he checked his watch.
“Huh… So I haven’t been writing for that long. I feel like I’m working really fast these days.” Mason remarked, he was surprised with his own progress as of late.
“What novel are you working on?” Edward questioned as he took a sip of his coffee.
“Counting The Days, simultaneously with it I’m also working on If I Could Move Again.” Mason answered as he took a big gulp of the coffee he was served. “Damn… This is really good.”
“Do you like it?” Edward questioned as he leaned his head on his hand and watched the author’s smile.
“It’s really good! What coffee did you use? I don’t think it’s any of mine…” Mason said as he thought back to the ones he had in his kitchen, none of them tasted
“I got it from my brother, he doesn’t really like coffee so he gave it to me.” Edward said while sipping on his own drink.
“Then wouldn’t you want to drink it yourself? There’s no need to waste it on me.” Mason said, now feeling a bit bad.
“It’s not a waste if it’s on you.” Edward said with a loving smile.
‘Stop looking at me like that…’ Mason felt a bit weird after hearing those words and having the student look at him with a loving gaze.
“So what else do you like?” Edward asked without looking away from the author.
“As in?” Mason didn’t know what the other person wanted to hear from him.
“What kind of things do you like doing? Movies, anime, music you listen to, food you like, colors you like, things like that. Evern things you dislike, anything really…” Edward explained.
“Why would you want to know all that?” Mason asked in a surprised voice, he was almost going to spill his coffee.
“I want to get to know you better, that’s all.” Edward said as he flashed a nice smile.
“Well… I guess-” Right before Mason could say anything else his phone rang and he stood up to answer it. “Sorry, it’s my mom. Just a second.” He said as he went to the terrace in the other room with his phone.
“What is it mom?” Mason asked as he looked out at the people outside.
“When are you coming back home? I told you I need someone to watch the dogs while I’m on a trip!” Vivian asked, her voice rising gradually.
“And I told you that I won’t be coming back anytime soon. Couldn’t you make your elder son take care of them? He just has to feed them anyway.” Mason said while doing his best to remain calm and not raise his voice so that the man in the other room won’t hear him.
“Enough acting like a child! Just come back home for a bit! It won’t hurt you!” Vivian said, her voice seemingly calmer.
‘Home… Like Hell I’d call that place a home!’ Mason hated that word, he didn’t at all think of it as a home.
“Why’d you go quiet all of a sudden? Are you coming back or not?!” Vivian seemed to be angered as she spoke.
“No, I’d rather not. Just get someone else to watch over the pups if you don’t trust Kris to do it…” Mason stood his ground and ended the call there. He didn’t feel like arguing with his mother anymore.
Why does she always have to call me just to ask for something? Can’t my mom ever just call to ask me how I am, or what I’m doing? I’m seriously sick of this…
Mason’s mood gradually went downhill after the conversation with his mother. Their relationship wasn’t too good to say the least.
I really hate G town… I hate it so much. Everything from it’s location, the weather, the people, the atmosphere, the tiny and unbelievably dirty apartment I used to live in there… It’s not even our own…
Since Mason’s father had sold the apartment the family lived in. Currently Mason’s parents and brother still lived in that same apartment but are paying rent for it to the new owner.
His father had done many more bad financial decisions, all of which led Mason to be very responsible with his money. Most of his childhood he’d spend in ways to save more money so that one day he would move out of that crappy apartment he hated so much.
Mason stopped eating at school just so he could save his lunch money. Since he didn’t have 18 years yet he couldn’t legally get a job either. So in the end he saved up with years and finally at his graduation of high school, he moved out with his best friend Lucas to V city. Under the pretext that they were studying there.
In the end however both of them still had to spend an entire extra year working to be able to attend V University. Now finally having reached this point, Mason dreads the idea of going back home at all…
I spend most of my childhood thinking of ways to leave that dammed place, I don’t want to even look at it again…
The author disliked his hometown with every fiber of his being. It also served as motivation for him however… Since he had such a strong distain for his hometown, he resolved himself to work as hard as he possibly could, just so he would never have to go back there ever again.
Gosh… I hate this…
The more Mason thought about the past, the worse his mood became. He looked at the people outside and how they went about their normal everyday lives.
“Hey…” Edward said as he opened the terrace door and went outside next to the author.
“Hi, sorry… I got lost in thought while standing here.” Mason apologized and went back inside. The other student followed him back in.
“How did it go? The talk with your mother, I mean…” Edward thought it might be a sensitive topic, so he was careful with his words.
“Nothing much, we just spoke, that’s all.” Mason wasn’t about to share any of his thoughts on the subject. Yes, he was being very secretive; however he disliked other people pitying him even more.
“I see, then are you ready to go on our double date?” Edward asked as he looked at the author who didn’t seem to be in a good mood at all.
“Yeah, just give me a second to change clothes…” Mason said as he took clothes off of the hangers.
Edward seemed to be in a daze as he watched the author change his clothes. The other student however did not notice that at all, as he had his mind filled with other things.
