JAKE
Today went well. We welcomed twenty-seven new members from the Silver Moon pack, and Shaun found his mate. I was envious. I wanted to find my own mate, the woman who would one day be my Luna. Until then, I would have fun looking for her. I wandered into the kitchen, looking for a snack. s**t!! Aimee was in there with a couple of other kitchen omegas. It would look strange if I just walked out, so I just ignored the death state that she gave me. I grabbed something from the fridge and headed back out. I hoped that she had at least given up hope of having a future with me.
AMIE
I was so mad at Jake for what I’d seen last night. He had hurt me. I had expected him to come and apologise today, so when he’d walked into the kitchen, I assumed that was why he was here. The Bastard just grabbed food and left. I was so angry, how f*****g dare he treat me like that. After a while I began to calm down. Maybe he had come into apologise, but hadn’t said anything because I wasn’t alone. Of course! That must be it. I would find an excuse to be alone with him tomorrow and give him a chance to apologise. I wouldn’t forgive him straight away, though. I would torture him a little bit first. I smirked to myself.
I got home to find Mum sat on the beat-up old sofa. She looked shaken up. I gently sat down beside her and placed my arm around her. She jumped slightly. “What’s wrong?” I asked her. She just looked at me for a while, then shakily said “Hunters!” I had heard about the attack on Silver Moon. That’s why we had new people show up today. I had also heard about one of them being Shaun’s mate. I wondered why the Hunters attacking Silver Moon had affected mum so badly. As far as I knew, she didn’t have a personal connection to the pack. Besides it’s not like Hunters would ever dare to attack Dawn Sky. We were a lot bigger than Silver Moon. Our warriors would take down any hunter in seconds. “What about Hunters? We are safe here.” I assured her. She looked into my eyes “Hunters were stood by the car this morning.” She said. I gasped, realising what she was saying. I had almost lost my mum. I couldn’t let that happen. I told her that we should go and see the Alpha. Tell him the situation. I was sure that he would help, somehow. She shook her head and said that she wanted nothing from him. I was confused. It seemed as though she had a problem with Alpha Cooper. Whatever her issue was, I couldn’t risk losing my mum. I decided to go and speak to him myself. Or maybe to Jake, it would be a good excuse to get him alone. Two birds with one stone.
I wandered back up to the pack house, intent on finding Jake and asking him to find a way to keep mum safe. He wouldn’t turn me away. He had a soft spot for a damsel in distress. I saw Shaun passing me by with his mate and a young boy. I smiled at her as our eyes met. She returned my smile and carried on waking with Shaun. I had a thought. She could be the perfect way in. I would befriend her and get closer to Jake that way. Besides the Luna should definitely be friends with the beta female. It would make for a much better working relationship. So, having a good relationship with her now could only make Jake's decision to make me his chosen mate easier.
At the pack house, I began looking for Jake. I wasn’t technically supposed to go onto the top three floors unless I was invited by someone who lived there, but given that I was going to be Luna some day, I figured no one would really mind. I made my way up to the top floor. The Alpha floor wasn’t like the others it didn’t have a main room that you entered first. It was more like a hotel. There were two corridors at the top of the stairs. One led to the family rooms, sitting, dining, and kitchenette. The other led to the bedrooms. Each bedroom had its own bathroom, but there was also a guest toilet. I had been up here enough times with Jake over the years to know my way around.
I stopped outside Jake's bedroom door. I could hear voices coming from inside. He was with his dreadful sister. I hoped that she would find her mate soon and that he would be from a pack far away from Dawn Sky. That way she wouldn’t be in my way. I heard her telling him that he needed to keep up the good work, pushing me away. I clenched my fist. So that little b***h was behind this was she. He replied that he didn’t need her to tell him that. He had given Ben his word to stay away from me. I covered my mouth with my hand. Now I understood why he had slept with Gemma. It wasn’t that he didn’t love me at all, like Polly in the kitchen had suggested earlier. It was simply that he was trying to be honourable. My heart fluttered, Goddess just when I thought that I couldn’t love him anymore.
I raised my hand to knock when a voice behind me stopped me in my tracks. “Can I help you, young lady?” I turned to see Alpha Cooper stood there. I smiled at him. “I just needed to speak to Jake. I was looking for some help.” I added the last part quickly. Like his son, I figured that he wouldn’t turn away a pack member in need of assistance. He suggested that we go down to his office and discuss how he could help. I nodded reluctantly. Then I had a brainwave. “Alpha, I know that it’s an odd request, but I would feel more comfortable discussing this with Jake there. I know Jake, and he has always made me feel safe.” I said meekly. I looked up at him through my eyelashes. He nodded. He told me to go down to his office and wait. He would get Jake and be down shortly. He assured me that whatever the problem he would do his very best to fix it. I smiled and thanked him. As I made my way to his office, I tried to work out why my mum seemed to have such a problem with him, but I couldn’t think of anything. He was a good Alpha, strong, caring, and passionate about the pack. I was sure that Jake would be the same kind of alpha. All he needed was the right woman by his side.
JAKE
My door knocked, and I opened it to find dad stood there. “Everything OK?” I asked. He nodded “We have a pack member in need of help. I’m not sure what the situation is yet. She is waiting in my office. She requested your presence. Apparently, you give her a feeling of safety.” He said the last part with a raised eyebrow. I told him that, of course, I would attend. To be honest, I was glad of anything that got me out of this conversation with Ally. I love my sister, but she was irritating me.
