SA TALYER

     “D-dito tayo magpo-prom?” Eunice echoed a horrified tone. But Adrian just gave her an almost laughable look, like catching her by surprise.

     “Nang ihatid ko si Janice, parang naramdaman ko na na may depekto, it was when you sat down na naramdaman ko at nakumpirma na may depekto sa wheels. Para ka talagang bad jinx, alangan namang ipahamak ko pa ang buhay natin, I need to bring this to someone who can repair this immediately.”

     “At anong mangyayari satin? You should have told dad! Ihahatid niya tayo!” Eunice aired.

     “Can you just relax, I’m thinking of something?” lumabas ito at may kinausap na mga tauhan sa talyer, may tinuturo pa ito, isang motor.

     Bumalik ito sa loob ng sasakiyan. “They will fix this now, kaya’t lumabas ka na. I already borrowed a motorcycle.”

     “W-what?” sambulat ni Eunice, but Adrian already jumped out again, at ng makitang naka-upo pa siya ay lumipat ito sa may pintuan niya, he jolted her out away by grabbing her hands and pulling her away.

     When he touched her hands, it felt like something electric has rummaged through her whole system. She felt a jolt and a kick in her stomach, like butterflies being awakened from the cage.

     Mabilis lang iyon at napalabas siya.

     “You will ride the motorcycle with me,” he said. Ngayon lang niya nalaman na marunong din itong mag-motor. Adrian has so many agilities and talents.

     “D-diyan?” turo niya sa motor na hindi man lang stylish at mukhang luma na.

     “Saan pa ba? Male-late na tayo, baka pag hintayin natin to, tapos na ang prom.”

     “Why don’t we go in the taxi?”

     “I don’t have enough cash with me, I only brought a card? How about you?”

     Totoo naman ang sinabi nito. Wala din siyang dalang pera. Napalulon na lang siya ng laway at nagsabi na ‘okay’. Nakasunod siya na parang puppy dito. Naka—angkas na ito.

     “You’re wearing white tuxedo,” singhap niya, already seeing some smudges of dirt in his clothes. Buti na lang ay pula ang suot niya hindi halata kung magiging dirty siya.

     “It’s okay, pwede ko namang hubarin tapos mag i-inner lo-longsleeve lang ako.”

     Mas nanlaki ang mata ni Eunice, umangkas na ito at pina-andar ang motor. “Come, ano pa ang hinihintay mo? Gusto mo bang iwan kita dito?” aniya ng binatilyo na parang nai-enjoy sa pagpapahirap ng buhay niya. He was challenging her, but she wont back out.

     “Okay,” she fiercely mouthed at ladylike na napa-upo sa likuran ni Adrian. Sa suot niya ay hindi siya maka-angkla ng mabuti kaya’t kelangan ay ladylike ang pag-angkas niya.

     “Careful so you don’t step on the tambutso,” check ni Adrian sa paa niya at tinuruan siya kung saan ipu-puwesto ng maigi ang papa niya. She was already feeling so uncomfortable. There was no way in hell that she can’t grab his torso and stomach. But realizing that she needs to hung up on him, this gives her happiness.

     Nagsimula na nitong paandarin, and when the motorcycle jolted in an abrupt movement, biglang napakabig si Eunice sa tiyan ni Adrian.

     “Ouch, ang higpit ng hawak mo,” anito ng magpaharurot na ito sa motorsiklo.

     “Mamamatay ako!” she shrieked.

     Napatawa ito.

     “Buti na lang hindi ball gown ang suot ko, isusumbong talaga kita kay daddy!”

     Mas napatawa si Adrian. His laugh was a ball of mirth and non-care, it was so delicious to the ears. Manly and with mirth.

     “Why don’t you just be silent, okay? Baka ikaw pa ang masumbong ko sa mga kabualastugan mo, Eunice.”

     Dinaanan nila ang isang interslope at mas napakapit siya dito, both of her shoulders and palms clasped in his torso in a hug. For an instant, she suddenly felt grateful na ganito sila, that she can be able to hug him. Oh damn, he smelled so good. Sinubsob niya ang mukha niya sa likod nito.

     “Ikaw ha, grabe na ang tsansing mo diyan sa ‘kin!” tukso ni Adrian nang mapansing nakasubsob na ngaang mukha niya sa likuran nito.

     “Ang bilis mo kasi! I would fall here if I wont glue my face on your back!”

     Narinig niya ulit ang tawa nito, and in a few moments, parang nalungkot siya ng makita na nila ang archway sa Highschool nila. There were throng of nice cars parked outside and in the parking. Ipinuwesto ni Adrian ang motorsiklo sa ilalim ng mangga. She hopped off in relief.

     Pero name-miss niya agad ang bango nito at ang init ng katawan nito habang yakap niya ito. She will cherish their motorcycle moment secretly.

     “W-what are you doing?” aniya ng makitang tinatanggal na nito ang upper tuxedo nito.

     “Nakita mo naman, may dumi na,” iling nito at isinabit lang sa motorsiklo ang suot. “Mamaya, sabay ka na kina Xyria o Janice pauwi dahil pupuntahan ko ulit ang kotse, okay?”

     She just silently nodded and this night, she didn’t know why but her appreciation and liking for him has gathered more.

     “Okay, let’s go,” she squirmed in excitement, at pinagpag ang sarili sa kaunting mga dusty particles na dumikit sa kaniya. Nakita ni Adrian ang pagpagpag niya at napailing na lang ito.

     Nang pumasok na sila sa hall, ay nalula si Eunice sa transformation ng hall, there were lights and music…and a banquet of bite sized foods and juice. The two beautiful friends were waving at her from a distance.

     Nakatitig naman sa kanila ang ibang tao, probably still stunned at the handsome Adrian beside her. She strutted more confidently. Asrian walked beside her but with a playful smirk in his eyes.

     “Oh, god, what happened to you,” salubong ni Xyria at Janice agad sa kaniya. It felt something was wrong. Suddenly, Adrian was out beside her and she saw him greeting his co-friends and team mate from a distance.

     Xyria fished out a mirror and showed in her face.

     Oh god, magbabayad talaga itong si Adrian! Her eyeshadow and lipstick were already out of place na para siyang clown. Kaya pala noong bumaba siya ng motor ay parang natatawa ang unggoy sa kaniya!
