Chapter 6

1466 Words
Victoria was in the kitchen preparing breakfast in the early hours of the morning. The doorbell suddenly rang, interrupting her in the midst of cooking. She opened the door and found Anna standing outside with a cloth box in her hands. Victoria recognized her as the woman Larry was with during their honeymoon in Los Angeles, but she refused to acknowledge it. "Good morning, I'm Anna," said with a smile. Victoria responded curtly, "OK, good morning. This is Mr and Mrs Larry Smith's house. Who are you looking for?" "I'm here to see Larry," Anna replied. "Who is Larry?" Victoria asked coldly. "Larry, that lives here...Larry Smith," Anna clarified. Before Victoria could respond, Anna pulled out her phone and started dialing Larry’s number. Just then, Larry appeared from inside the house looking for Victoria. "Victoria, who is… outside?" Then he noticed Anna and his face lit up with a wide smile. "Hey babe, what's up? You're here; you’re not looking bad," he flirted. He took Anna's bags inside, and as they walked past Victoria towards Larry’s room, Victoria couldn't help but speak up. "Who is she, and why is she here?" She demanded. Larry looked taken aback by her tone before finally responding, "This is Anna, she is my girlfriend." With a dismissive hiss, Victoria turned and retreated into her room while Larry led Anna to his own room. As they entered, they embraced each other tightly. Larry spoke, "I've missed you so much, Anna. But why did you come here?" Anna replied, "I couldn't stand being apart from you any longer. I haven’t seen you in the past five weeks after your honeymoon in Los Angeles. Moreover, you said I could move in after your wedding, and it is five weeks already, so I decided to come. Consider this my official move-in date." Without hesitation, they leaned in and shared a kiss that spoke volumes about their desire for one another. The sound of giggles made Victoria's stomach turn. She decided to see her mother because she could not stand to be under the same roof with them. She hopped in her car and headed to her mother's place. She entered the passcode to their apartment, and she entered the lounge; she was shocked to see her mother in a passionate embrace with a stranger who looked familiar. "Good evening, Mom," Victoria said, trying to keep her composure despite the shock washing over her. But it was no use, as Mrs. Clinton barely registered her daughter's presence, so lost was she in her lover's arms. "Mommy!" Victoria shouted, desperate for attention. Finally noticing her daughter, Mrs. Clinton pulled away from the stranger and exclaimed, "Vic! What are you doing here? Where is your husband?" She was nervous, and her voice quivering. Victoria looked more closely at the man and gasped. "Isn't the man that showed up to threaten my father a day before my wedding? Did you orchestrate this whole situation so that I would marry Larry? Why, Mom? Why?" Her mother’s lover left immediately. Mrs. Clinton hung her head in shame, unable to meet her daughter's eyes. "I thought I was doing the right thing, Vic. I thought I was protecting our family's future," she whispered, her words barely audible.“I just want to ensure financial stability for our family and…" Victoria's hands were shaking with anger as she confronted her mother. The betrayal cut dee. Thee trust shattered in an instant. "Financial stability? Is that all you care about, Mom? What about love and happiness?" she cried out, her voice quivering with emotion. “I want the best for you and your children." "My children," Victoria blurted out, her voice shaky. "You mean child...I'm pregnant." She paused and touched her stomach. "I’m with a child. The future of this child in my womb, I don't know." Mrs. Clinton's eyes widened in confusion. "But why? You're married to Larry." Victoria's face fell as she clarified, "No, Mom, the baby is not Larry's. It's Logan's." She took a deep breath before continuing, "The pregnancy belongs to Logan," sitting down in a nearby chair as she explained her one-night stand. "I had a moment of weakness two days before my wedding, and I met Logan. Her mother sat down next to her, tears already streaming down her face. “Logan?” she repeate, disbelief in her tone. Who is Logan? “Larry's friend,” Victoria replied, her voice shaking. Mrs Clinton covered her mouth with her hands in disbelief as she sat on the ground, tears streaming down her face. “Victoria, why did you do that?” she cried out, shaking her head in disbelief. “This girl has ruined everything!" Mrs. Clinton leaned in close, her voice low and urgent. "Who knows about the pregnancy?" she asked Victoria. "No one," Victoria replied, her face pale with worry. "I just found out yesterday." Mrs Clinton's expression softened as she placed a comforting hand on Victoria's arm. "It's okay," she reassured her. "We can't let anyone know. We'll take care of it. The Smith family has been so generous to us, building us a house, helping your father, furnishing this place. We can't betray their trust by having a child out of wedlock." Victoria felt tears pricking in her eyes as she spoke up. "But I can't terminate the pregnancy," she said firmly. "I won't do that." She took a deep breath before continuing. "Let's return everything they've given us. I'm a lawyer. I'll get a job and raise the child on my own." "Where is Daddy? Victoria asked. “You said Mrs Smith paid off his debt.” Mrs Clinton sighed Victoria stood up, “Did you bring Daddy to manipulate me into this marriage?” Her voice trembling with anger as she demanded answers from her mother. With trembling hands, she pointed a finger at her mother and whispered, "How could you do this to me, to Dad?” Victoria’s heart was heavy with betrayal. She couldn't believe her own mother would go to such lengths to manipulate her life. Mrs. Clinton looked down ather hands, "The truth is, hmmm… I took out a loan using this house and your father's company as collateral to pay off your dad's debt. But if we can get some more from the Smith family, everything will be fine." But Victoria was no longer listening. The realization of her mother's deception weighed heavily on her heart. She turned away, feeling a mixture of anger and sadness pulsating through her veins. Without another word, Victoria grabbed her bag and car keys and walked out of the house. She couldn't believe that her mother would use such dishonest schemes to get what she wanted. Disappointment weighed heavily on her shoulders as she drove away. Victoria drove straight to the club. She quickly parked her car in the lot and approached the men standing outside. After explaining that she needed to see Amanda, they let her enter. "Victoria, what are you doing here at this hour?" Amanda asked, her voice filled with genuine worry. Victoria collapsed into a chair with tears streaming down her cheeks. She described the entire situatio,n from her one-night stand with Logan, her unexpected pregnancy, Anna and Larry's relationship, and her mom’s manipulation. At first, Amanda laughed at how ridiculous everything seemed, but as Victoria went on to share her feelings, her expression changed to one of shock and sympathy. "Oh, my dear," Amanda said sympathetically, putting a comforting hand on Victoria's shoulder. "You thought Logan was the father...but it was actually Larry that you slept with that night. But why would they deceive you?” Victoria's jaw dropped in shoc.k “What did you say?” The news hit Victoria like a ton of bricks. Her mind raced as she tried to piece together the truth. She didn't sleep with Loga. Shee slept with Larry that night. But why would they both deceive her? It was too much to handle, and Victoria passed out from the overwhelming shock and confusion. When Victoria woke up, she found herself in a hospital room with Amanda beside her bed. “Are you okay? The doctor said, you are okay and the baby.” “I can’t believe that I actually slept with Larry that night. This feels like a dream, but I pray that it is real.” Amanda chuckled, “It is real. Meanwhile, I have been trying to call Larry, but he was not picking up your phone.” “Just leave Larry.” She asked for her phone number and dialed her mother-in-law’s number. Mrs Smith answered on the second ring. “Mother,” Victoria was trying to keep her voice calm. “I would like to invite the royal families for dinner tomorrow.”
