The Visit

Madeline's Pov My mind was still reeling after the encounter with Alpha Kaden a while ago. The man was shameless. I didn’t expect him to whisper such words in my ears. He made me almost submit myself to him, made Sage say so many words to me in a bid to convince me to stay like he wanted. Most especially, he made me feel so safe with him. Maybe it was because of how he looked at me, like he’d give me the world the moment I asked of it. Perhaps it was the mate bond, and I’d never felt this way. “We are almost at the border.” The shortie informed me. Alpha Kaden had insisted on going with me to see my friend as I told him I would but when I disagreed, we both settled to let the shortie go with me. I could see the shortie wasn’t happy with it but that didn’t bother me. I still haven’t had my revenge against him for all he did. “Hey, you’re walking too fast.” I hurried my pace to meet his. It seemed to me like he was avoiding me. Or trying perhaps. But here he was, stuck with me. “Maybe it’s just you who’s slow.” “That mad you didn’t get to torture me like you planned?” I teased and he paused, as if I had just strucked a nerve. “I apologized.” “Who said an apology can solve everything?” He looked at me in surprise. “Don’t tell me you’re holding a grudge against me?” “You almost killed me, shortie.” I told him, remembering how he had pressed that wolf’s bane coated dagger to my neck. “I thought you were a wild rogue who’s been eating children. It’s not my fault you hadn’t spoken out more clearly.” A laugh cut out through my throat. No, because this shortie was unbelievable. I hadn’t spoken out clearly? How many times did I explain it to him? “Does saying that make you feel better?” “It’s the truth.” I scoffed. “By the way, what is it about rogues eating children? I haven’t heard about that.” “Probably because they are very discreet. Our Alpha is too smart not to notice their little moves.” “I guess they are becoming more evil. How could they hurt a child?” I felt sad something like this was happening. “It’s not their fault, you know?” The shortie started, his voice softer, it made me look at him a second time. “I do not think they actually wanted to do it. They’re being controlled.” “What does that mean?” I scrunched up my brows in confusion. Rogues, once they had gone wild, usually leaned more to the evil side. They think more negatively and would strive to incite chaos wherever but those were just their inner demons surfacing. They were still in control of their actions, they just bend more easily to their dark thoughts. “It takes about a month for a rogue to go wild, but I have seen someone who went wild just after a day. He was captured, but it was different when he returned. He had eaten at least two people.” “So you mean someone is capturing them and turning them evil?” I said in thought. If this is true, what could be the goal of this person? “You also have to be careful. You’re currently a rogue. I can smell that stinky smell on you.” I glared at him for that comment and proceeded to secretly smell myself. I couldn’t smell anything but it’s true that rogues smelled really disgusting. Was that how I smelled to Alpha Kaden? I hoped not, or I’d just kill myself right here. “There are people at the border.” The shortie came to a stop and I did too, sniffing around, I could smell out some people, a few familiar scents too but not people I wanted to meet. I could feel that my best friend, Daphne was close by too. “We don’t have to deal with them. I know of a way to enter without getting spotted.” I led the shortie away from the border. We passed a lake and climbed some rocks to arrive at the other side, at the Red Lake Pack. And walking further, I saw Daphne, her dark hair being blown around by the wind as she sat there and played with stones like a little child. I guess she had been bored waiting for me. When I told her to come if she missed me, I meant to come to this location so we could talk and plan. She knew I’d never go down without a proper fight. Cora might think she had won with her tricks but I’m not done yet until I said I am. “Madeline!” she called out excitedly when she noticed me. She ran into my arms immediately, and then began to search my body, asking if I was alright and apologizing over and over again, blaming herself for what happened. If I knew she’d blame herself like this, I’d never have told her the fruit juice caused all of this to happen to me. “I’m fine, Daphne. As you can see. I ran into some really nice people, and they took quite good care of me.” Of course, I couldn’t tell her that I was captured and almost tortured. “I’m so relieved you’re fine. I couldn’t stop worrying.” She said, and that was when I noticed she hadn’t come alone. Someone else had just stepped out from behind the huge rock. It was Skylar’s beta. “Luna.” He greeted me with a bow of his head, causing me to frown. “It’s just Madeline now, Alex.” I corrected him. He swallowed before walking towards us. I looked at Daphne to explain what was going on and a sullen expression entered her eyes. “I’m sorry, Maddy. He somehow knew I was going to see you and brought me to the supreme Alpha who forced me to come here with him.” Right, the supreme Alpha, Skylar’s father. I also have some scores to settle with him. Why didn’t he process our rejection? I thought feeling the bond break between us would be all but how could I have forgotten? The supreme Alpha would have to approve of it first because of how we bonded in the first place. That pain I felt today, it wouldn’t have happened if he was not trying to make this difficult for me. “You were sent here by the supreme Alpha?” I turned to the beta who stopped right just in front of me. I could feel how the shortie stood protectively next to me, letting out his aura to warn the beta not to come any closer. “I mean you no harm, Luna.” Well, I wouldn’t know that since we were never close. Alex had always been on a zone of his own. He seemed to be in a different league from even his Alpha and I had always had this feeling, his loyalties didn’t lie with Skylar but with Skylar’s father. “The supreme Alpha wanted me to pass you a message. He said not to worry and that he has everything under control. He wants you to prepare to come back to your rightful place soon, where you belong, as the Red Lake’s pack, Luna.” To my rightful place, as the Red Lake Pack’s Luna? The words repeated themselves in my head. I stifled a laugh, looked away, clenched my fists, unclenched them, deciding to handle this calmly and finally took a step towards the Beta. His eyes were expressionless, his face stoic like a robot as he met my gaze head on, not with any feeling of demean but respect as his former Luna. I could see it in his eyes. “Do deliver my reply to him then. I am grateful for the time spent with his son and I am aware of how he has tried his best to take care of me but I’ll take over from here. I am not returning to the Red Lake pack as his son’s Luna, but perhaps I would return for something else. Ask him to release me from the bond and ease me of the suffering his son is causing me. This is my last request to him and I hope he can grant it by severing our ties to each other. I’ll take care of myself from now on.” Surprise finally entered Alex’s eyes. “You need to think about it again. Once the supreme Alpha steps in, that woman would no longer have a chance against you. He’s going to bring you Justice.” “Sorry to butt in.” The shortie spoke, and Alex’s eyes narrowed in on him with a c**k of his brow as if asking who the hell he was. “I suggest you give up, because my Luna isn’t going anywhere with you, not now, not any time in the future. She now belongs to someone else.” Alex and even Daphne all turned towards me with puzzling looks. “H-he just called you Luna, Madeline. What’s going on? Who’s he? I’m sure he is not from this pack? Why is he calling you his Luna? Did you somehow conquer a pack last night?” Yeah, Daphne thinks really big. I let the silence pass for a while, thinking about how to reply to that. Apart from Daphne, I wasn’t planning to let this beta guy know about my mate right now. For some reasons, it didn’t sit well with me. Just when I opened my mouth to speak, he beat me to it. “Did you find your mate, Luna Madeline?” At least he was more realistic and correct. “I do not need to explain myself to you, Alex. Go back to your Alpha and deliver my message to him.” I stared into his eyes, making sure he understood that I didn’t require his presence any longer than this. He gave me a small nod, took a good accessing look at Benny beside me before he turned around to leave, but he stopped as if changing his mind, he turned back towards me. “Is it the neighboring pack?” “That is none of your business.” I snapped. He scoffed and looked at me dead in the eyes. “You’ve forgotten the promise, Luna. The Alpha will not let you go that easily.” And I knew he was right. Because that was my greatest fear after everything.
