I understood the young wolf’s question. It must have been shocking to see me interfering, but I couldn’t just stand by and watch as things seemed to grow increasingly dangerous.
“No one should be treated cruelly. He can be angry, but he should never hurt you,” I explained.
“But why do you care?”
“I have made mistakes too.”
“Does our Alpha not treat you well? Is that why you do it?” she questioned, noticing the surprise on my face and quickly looking away. “Sorry, that’s not my place.”
“No, it’s fine. You can ask,” I reassured her, and she turned back to me.
“Why do you do it? We all wonder. Alpha Ash has never done anything wrong to us, and yet you break his heart over and over. Why?”
“I wish I had an answer,” I confessed.
