Chapter 5

1072 Words
-Summer- The handsome stranger returned not long after, now dressed in different clothes, looking even more mouthwatering in those dark blue pants and a dark t-shirt. How could anyone ever look so good? I just wanted to... No! How could I think such thoughts? I had a mate. I was very much in love with my mate, and somehow, I was ready to... Calm yourself, Summer, I told myself, trying not to devour the man in front of me with my eyes. He had placed a tray filled with food on a small table and sat down across from me. His room was quite large, and we were seated by what looked like a desk with some papers on it. Did he work here? At the end of the room, there was a bed where we had... No, not going to let that thought finish. There was a large seating area in the middle and a big balcony outside that I could see. I turned back to the handsome stranger, who gestured to the food, and I began eating a little because I was so hungry, yet he kept watching me, which made me uneasy. “Aren’t you hungry too?” I asked, noticing his big eyes. “I... ate downstairs.” “Oh…” The silence continued as he watched me, and I didn’t know what to do. “I don’t mind sharing.” He seemed even more shocked, and I pushed the tray a little closer to him, so it was in the middle. “It’s... fine, you need it.” “Okay…” Oh, this was awkward, but what did I say? What did I even do? “So,” I said. “What shall we spend the day on?” He looked like I had slapped him in the face. “What?” I asked. “Why would we spend the day together?” Now I felt slapped. “Because you told me not to leave the room until nightfall.” “Yes, I’m aware. You just came out of your heat, and your scent is still quite alluring. It could mess with some heads.” “Yes, and am I supposed to just... sit around?” I questioned. “No, of course not. But why would we do something together?” “I just thought since I was trapped here…” “I mean, we can,” he quickly added, and I drew back, surprised. First, he sounded so confused. Now he sounded so eager. “If you wanted to.” “I... just thought…” “Of course…” he said, now sounding disappointed. He had many mood swings, didn’t he? “I could just go get someone to spend their day with you.” “Get someone?” “I’m sure anyone would be happy to be around their Luna for the day.” “Luna?” I asked. I was Luna? Now that I took a moment to investigate, I could feel power spreading through me, and when I sniffed the air, there was the scent of Luna, but there was something much more powerful hitting my nose, and that was the scent of Alpha. Oh, it smelled good. Better than any Alpha I had ever smelled, and I realized where it came from. “Why do you smell so good?” I blurted out without thinking, and we both drew back, shocked, when we realized what I had said. “Sorry, I…” “You... think I smell good?” he asked. “No! I mean… you just…” “I just?” he pressed. “Well, I was just… You know, it was just…” Suddenly, he seemed disappointed again. “Don’t worry, I understand.” “You do?” Good, because I didn’t, I thought. “I do,” he said. “It’s the power of being mates. Our scents attract each other. And I am sure that with your heat just passing, you feel a bit more drawn to me.” “Mates…” I whispered, the only word from his mouth I actually noticed. He looked confused again, and I pushed forward, grabbing the edge of the desk. “You mean true mates?” I asked. “What else would I mean?” he inquired, looking at me like I had lost my mind. “Us?” I asked, gesturing with a hand between us. He let out a heavy sigh and reclined in his chair, running his hand through his hair, inadvertently tousling it. His hands... Stop! How did I lose focus so easily? Just a simple gesture, and I found myself studying him again, as if he were a work of art! “I know you’re not happy about it, Sienna,” he retorted. “Huh?” I inquired. “Us, being mates, but could you at least acknowledge it, or have we gotten there now?” “Where?” I asked. “Seriously, don’t play dumb.” “What?” I felt so confused. Could someone explain? I begged inside of myself. “I know you don’t want me. You made that clear, but it doesn’t change that we’re locked together for life, so could you stop that?” he asked, pressing a finger into the desk to make himself clear. I blinked fast, and it seemed to annoy him that I turned quiet. “Just because you don’t want me, you know what we are. It’s fine if you want to act in front of your other… lovers that we are not, or maybe you get a kick out of laughing about it behind my back. I don’t—” “Sorry,” I interrupted, and he looked surprised. “Lovers?” What lovers? What was he talking about? If we were true mates, then how could there be lovers? “Really?” he asked. “What?” I inquired. “Now, you want me to name them for you?” “No!” I shouted. “But that’s… We’re true mates. I mean, did you not say that?” “I did.” “Then how are there lovers? What lovers?” “I don’t want to play that game,” he said, shaking his head. What game? What was he talking about? But it was clear from the look in his eyes that he was telling me not to push him.
