Mountain King

The large colossal undead grew bigger as Julius’s fiends continued to ‘feed’ it, its own comrades. It naturally grew larger, but Julius and his fiends were able to continue dealing damage to its vulnerable body until finally, he was able to penetrate its shell and reach its vertebrae. Julius smashed through the hollow object and began destroying it from the inside. Whenever he crushed one part of the creature’s spine, a large portion of the fused undead’s shell would collapse, allowing his fiends to assist him. He had to grind through the monster for over an hour before it finally collapsed. It naturally wasn’t without obstacles. Julius was literally inside the creature and the undead was able to manipulate its bones to attack him. When it finally fell, Julius received a large amount of EXP and his fiends began devouring the monster’s soul fire and some underwent evolution, gaining the ability to manipulate bones and negative energy. Negative energy was the antithesis of Julius’s fiends but by consuming one of the sources of negative energy, his fiends were able to create soul fires within their body which let them adapt to and control negative energy. Julius was still able to feel a repulsive feeling from these fiends like how he felt towards the undead but at the very least, it was much more tolerable. After the exhausting long battle, Julius ordered his fiends to disperse in different directions and deal with the undead that chased after them before returning to their sanctum. He had achieved the goal he had set out to do and now it was time for him to upgrade his base. Also, his body was being enhanced by the influx of power and energy that was coursing through his veins from leveling up. He had already experienced this sensation once before and it was intoxicating, however, this time was even more intense. After dealing with the undead that chased after him, Julius quickly returned to his base. He flew into his Fiend’s cradle and his wings wrapped themselves around his body as an intense coldness took over him. Julius tried to bundle himself up to cope with the chill he was feeling throughout his entire body but it was no use. The chill was only getting colder and colder until Julius felt like his entire body was encased in ice. His heart felt so cold that he thought it had frozen over and stopped beating. The air had even turned chilly and the Fiend’s Cradle immediately closed around him. [Error: Host undergoing unexpected evolution] [Error: Host undergoing unexpected evolution] [Error: Host undergoing unexpected evolution] [...] Julius could no longer keep his mind awake as those were the last words he heard before falling unconscious. Before he fainted, Julius gave out one final command to his fiends. “Base...upgrade…” ***** At the Aurumfaust Kingdom, far away from the Shifting Hallows, a stout but muscular middle-aged dwarf sitting on a throne was currently deep in thought while in the midst of a loud and rambunctious assembly.  Arguments and rebuttals were being thrown from across the room, but the dwarf on the throne seemed as if he was isolated from the rowdiness of the throne room. This dwarf was the current king of the Aurumfaust Kingdom, Mountain King Sithaeth Oakenfury.  This was the man who had just recently lost his one and only precious daughter. There was no concrete evidence of it being caused by the humans like so many dwarves had stated, but the circumstantial evidence of the church’s declaration that was succeeded with their abrupt departure before his daughter was found having mysteriously died not even a day later was all the evidence he and every other dwarf needed for them to believe that the church was behind it all. As the king and as the father to the dead princess, he should be the most furious one, however, he was the calmest amongst all the dwarves present in the assembly.  “Circumstantial evidence has already shown that it was indeed those bastards from the church that did this! How else could our princess have perished without even a hint of injury or even the use of poison was found?” The dwarves had released a statement that the princess had perished due to being poisoned, but in reality, they couldn’t even find a trace of poison in her. No signs of struggle or anything, she was just found dead on her bed as if she had silently passed away through natural causes. However, this couldn’t be the case. No dwarf to date had ever passed away naturally while they were still in their blooming years of youth because the earth god, Mother Nature, protected them from any diseases and illnesses while they were still in their growing, youthful period. Since there were no precedents the only culprit that could have done this was the church. After their threatening remarks and demands, the church had left even before the dwarves could even send out a response. This was suspicious even from an outsider’s point of view, but outsiders would be too cautious with meddling in the affairs of the humans’ Church of Holy Light. Also, the target this time was the dwarves. Other factions and races would naturally want to take advantage of the current situation and establish a strong relationship with the technologically advanced dwarves but right now, the dwarves had shut themselves away from the world. They broke off from the long-standing alliance and declared the church and all humans enemies while ceasing all trade and business relations with anyone still in the alliance with the humans. Many races in the world depended on the dwarves for their weaponry and technology so what the church did was detrimental to everyone. The other races of the alliance should have naturally helped the dwarves but they were being too greedy and wanted to maximize their benefits before and after helping the dwarves seek out justice. After noticing this, the dwarves immediately withdrew from the alliance. It wasn’t just the church’s fault, but everyone in the alliance was at fault for the dwarves’ withdrawal. They wanted to take advantage of the dwarves’ plight but Sithaeth wouldn’t have any of that. Seeking aid and justice should have come without regard to profit or loss. However, as the long years have passed by, the current alliance was nothing more than a business alliance rather than an alliance of coexistence. The alliance’s values and worth had depreciated over the course of a few centuries so the dwarves didn’t see any reason to stay in it after seeing how profit-driven every other member was.  Since they, the dwarves, were self-sufficient now and no longer needed to rely on any external help. The only thing they wanted now was not justice, but revenge for the death of their princess. If they couldn’t get it through the help of their former alliance members then they would do it themselves. Right now, the dwarven assembly was discussing how they would attack the church. Many ideas and proposals were thrown out but immediately discarded and rebutted because it was hard for them to go to war without the help of their machinery. Their dwarven machinery wasn't actually that easy to move around so while they had an easy time defending their kingdom from any external threats, it was difficult for them to attack anyone. Mountain King Sithaeth slammed his fist on his throne’s armrest and silenced the bustling crowd of dwarves present in his castle’s throne room. “Instead of discussing how to get back at the foolish humans, it’s better to discuss how to find the true culprits that murdered my daughter.” “But King, we are talking about that! The true culprits must be the church!” Sithaeth glared at the dwarf who just spoke before saying, “The church is the one behind this...but I want to find the hands that did this on behalf of the church…” He cast a menacing glare at everyone present before saying, “My daughter passed away in a manner so peaceful that it looked like she had died of natural causes but that’s not true. She was the only dwarf in the last century that showed such high potential and compatibility with our god, Mother Nature. The church was still outside our walls that day. The only possibility is the church having agents inside our kingdom even at that time.” “Agents, milord?” One dwarf quickly caught onto what the king was trying to say and exclaimed, “Then...the only possibility would be― “Mhm...I’ll give all the agents a chance to turn themselves in to lighten their punishment or else once I find you myself...I'll make sure you watch as I execute your family in front of you, one by one.” The king was wise and had already caught on to the church’s scheme that day. It was careless of him to not have realized it sooner and it cost him his daughter’s life. Why did the church declare their intentions and why did they suddenly leave after only shouting out their demands. Naturally, it was because the church’s agents would be moving in secret to complete the mission and these agents were naturally dwarves. The barrier around the city didn’t trigger so no enemies or individuals of a different race had passed through it. The only conclusion was that the church's hands and feet who were responsible for the actual murder was a dwarf. “So… no agent is willing to step forward, huh? That’s fine. I already know who you people are.”
