I woke up in my bed, head pounding, loud male voices made me look over my room. I saw the clock say it was little past 6 and my stomach growled and told me it was way past time for dinner.
I got up and noticed my socks were now off, I walked out of my room slowly, trying to figure out who was here besides Charlie.
It was a man in overalls, he was standing next to a white box now mounted on my wall and I rubbed my eyes before making myself known.
"What's going on?" I asked and Charlie stopped and turned to me.
"You didn't have a security system so I called someone in to install one." He told me and I squinted at the box before looking at him.
"I don't need a security system." I mumbled and he gave me a small smile before nodding to the man.
"How about we set up the 5 digit code." The guy waved us both over and told us about how to make a new one if we ever needed to. I waited to have the whole "whose paying for this" conversation until after we chose the code and the man left, handing Charlie the paperwork.
"So, are you hungry?" Charlie asked, tossing the papers on my coffee table before walking to close the door.
"Yes..." I worked my jaw and looked from him to the new addition to my wall and he looked too.
"What? Are you worried you won't remember the code?" He asked me and I gulped.
"I can't afford to just pay for a new security system Charlie. I basically just quit my only income and I was barely surviving before the wedding disaster. That's a bill I can't afford even if I was doing well." I sighed and felt so embarrassed I turned as tears burned the corner of my eyes and I tried to go back to my room but Charlie's arm had me against his chest before I could turn down the hallway.
"What do you mean barely surviving?" He asked me, a deep growl in his voice and I gulped and kept my face away from his.
"Not a lot of people want to be married here... it snows in the winter and it's not to pretty in the other seasons." I told him with a shrug and I felt his breathing get slightly heavier when he tried to calm down. "It's something I deal with alone. I don't tell anyone-"
"You're going to tell me exactly what you need... right now." He lifted me, making me squeak out a 'whoa' before walking to the kitchen and putting me in my chair.
"I don't need anything." At least not from him.
"Don't you lie to me Yasmin. What would solve your problems? A winter wonderland getaway with a wedding deal package? A store for more than just wedding dresses? Your own clothing line sold across the nation? Tell me." Oh he was tempting fate asking those kinds of questions, and the small sparkle in his eye when he noticed me peeking up told me he knew.
"Nothing like that. I used to want to do dresses because that's what my mom loves and taught me to do, but it gets boring after a while. Not o mention slow." I shrugged and started playing with my fingers.
"Okay sprite.... listen to me. I will fund the one project that you want more than anything. You just have to tell what it is and why you want it." He smiles at me when he realized I didn't like the nickname.
"Why would you do that?" I asked him and moved to wipe my face a bit and look a little bit more like a woman than a crying child.
"Because little one... the other day when I saw you I realized that you were-" there was a loud bang of knocks before someone was shouting my name and I looked to him when I realized who that was.
"Stay here, I really don't want you two to fight." I begged and grabbed his hand, it was so natural, and I gave it a squeeze when he nodded. I got up quick, again feeling empty the moment we stopped touching and even more alone when I got out of the same room.
I got to the door and opened it just a crack before looking at Jason. His temper was reigned in and I just waited. "Can I come in?" He asked and I shook my head. "Fine, that's fair after what I said-"
"You told your cousin I would never find a mate." I gulped and his eyes turned soft. "The one thing you knew I always feared was being alone." I felt the ache in my chest, the friendship we sort of had was now gone, no hope in getting it back.
"I was mad and hurt by what happened with us." He tried that excuse and I shook my head.
"I spoke to you, as nice as I could, and you told me you felt the same." I knew that was now a lie but I wanted him to tell me why he lied.
"I didn't want to go through my feelings. You had spilled your heart out that you didn't feel that you loved me more than a friend. How was I supposed to say, well I'm in love with you? How was I supposed to say that when you didn't give any reason to talk about it or give me a chance to change your mind?" He asked me and I tried to think back to that awkward conversation but he didn't seem like he was in pain, his face was always sort of relieved at the end.
"I just need you to go Jason. Find someone else to do the wedding-"
"No, I'm a jackass about saying those things but I won't let Claire spend all that money with anyone else but you. I know you need it." He didn't sound like he was giving, he sounded like he knew I couldn't refuse. His face was in a smirk like he was sure I would have to forgive him or work with him.
"No." I shook my head and closed the door, putting a barrier up just incase before going towards kitchen. "What were you saying?" I asked him and he caught my arm, pulled me towards him as he stood and he leaned down, hands moving to each side of my face before giving me a light kiss.
The surprise wore of after the first 2 seconds, and my hands went to his arms and around his shoulders to loop around his back as he kept kissing me. He moved me just slightly around before he picked me up and set me on the table.
I was panting by the time he pulled away and asked, "Please tell me you know what I need to tell you." He whispered and I just blanked and he sighed before leaning into me again.
"Just say it."
"You're my mate little one. You never have to worry about anything again. Your mine and I'm yours, forever." He set his lips back on mine and I felt some kind of happiness at his revelation and he picked me up. Carrying me to a counter before pulling away. "Why are you crying?"
"Because I'm so relieved." I whispered and wiped my face before he took over wiping them for me.
"I've been trying to get to know you before I just blurt it out, but seeing as I've messed up our first date, made your friendship with my cousin disappear and I've made you angry about the new security I'm guessing I should have told you the moment we met again."
I laughed lightly and shaking my head. "This is just fine." I told him and made myself take a deep breath and calm myself before smiling. "I'm surprised that you waited so long though. All the males around here used to talk about taking their women the moment they met them."
"I'm not barbaric. You do have a choice, and while I know your fear is to end up alone, I don't want that fear to be the reason you choose me." He gulped hard and I realized that was his way of saying that I should get to know him.
"Well, for one you're the best kiss I've ever had so you have that going for you. And you're sweet. No one has ever bought me a home security system." I giggled and he looked away.
"Probably should have told you before that. Like when we got home. But you were hungry and I noticed after you fell asleep you only had a chain, that you didn't even lock when we came inside." He only made me laugh harder.
"I will accept that gift...." I didn't like it, but it made him feel better.
"Now, tell me what you want to do with my offer." He waited patiently and I gulped.
"I don't know. When I was little and my mom told me about her plans of making an Inn, this would be the best place because the tourists usually fill up the hotel quick... and of course I wanted to do the inn with like bed and breakfast and sightseeing stuff and wedding deals, kind of like you said. But I wanted it to be a cool place not something like the hotel chain they have here."
That hotel just let the tourists do whatever they wanted, no guidance or offers of classes for skiing or boarding. I wanted to do that and make it like a family place.
"I know just the huge house to have a inn for those things you want." He told me and smiled wide before he grabbed my hand and told me to get some shoes on and jacket.
