"Why are we at Jason's mothers old house?" It was snowing, my socks were now soaked because my shoes let snow on the very top and be didn't have tools to clear the snow to the porch. "Because this is the house I wanted to show you." He lifted me onto the third step since I was struggling and then set me down to fish out some keys in his pocket. "But this is-" I stopped and remembered that he said his aunt left him a house here. "She left me this house because they told Jason to make his own. She knew I loved this house and the town. I never had something like this growing up. I moved too much." "You miss her don't you?" I asked him, and it was a odd question because of course he did, it was his family. "She was more of a mother to me than my own was. She was my fathers sister, and she used to send letters all the time, even if we moved she would ask me how I was and what I was up to." He gave a soft laugh before running a hand over his face and looking over at me. "She was so nice to me, even after Jason and I broke up. She checked in on me when my mother died, sat with me at the funeral." He took my hand and set the key in it. "It's yours. 18 bedrooms, 15 baths. A large kitchen, a sitting room. An amazing back yard. And it's so close to the mountain and ski lifts." He told me and I gulped and smiled before just simply taking his hand and moving to open the front door. I couldn't get it open though, I pushed and was about to ram it with my shoulder when he stopped me and gave it a hard push and the door cracked but opened slowly. Dust and bugs were everywhere. It was just as cold inside as it was outside and as I tried to hit the closest light switch nothing came on. "Stay here I can flip the breaker." He told me and I just looked around what I could see and noticed all the family pictures handing up. This was a family home... not an Inn. Looking at a few pictures made me start to feel bad about even thinking of using this place, but when the lights switched on and I realized there was no furniture and everything but the pictures had been taken I called out for Charlie. "I'm sure someone took all the furniture and hopefully there wasn't anything too valuable. We should call the sherif." I told him when he can back towards me with worry on his face. "No, I'm afraid that I let Jason take whatever he wanted." He told me and I felt so confused. If Jason took all the furniture then why did he leave every single picture behind, there was even stacks on the floor, some of table top frames... I didn't understand that. "Why did he leave them?" I asked and moved to look at a couple, seeing me and Jason and his dad fishing on a boat, we couldn't be more than 7. "Some of these are your memories too." He told me and showed off on of me and Jason at Prom. "Wow, I forgot that we even took that. I didn't get a copy." I looked at more, mostly of happy memories and there was one of Jason's parents wedding in the 1920's. They were some of the few Yetis to wait out for their mate, Jason's father had been over 1000 years old and his mother close to 800. She used to tell me how she was so lonely because she was an the only girl and her parents had died when she was young. Her brothers had needed to do whatever they did and eventually they all found their mates and had kids. She told me more about it after my own mother died, but I did grow close with her when Jason and I were dating. "Do you think he'll want them?" I asked Charlie and he worked his jaw and looked at the walls. "If he wanted them he should have taken them. We can leave all the ones of you guys being friends but I really don't like these." He held up one of Jason kissing my cheek at a holiday party back in high school, that was the same year we started dating, and I gulped. "So leave the family ones and toss any old flames... into the flames? It is cold in here, do you think there's a bad draft?" I asked and he looked around. "Not that I know of, but we can always come back here in the morning and have a serious look around." He told me and I shivered as a strong wind blew through the house. "Okay... tomorrow." I agreed and he came towards me, pulling me with him and he shut off the lights again before he locked the front door and pulled me into his side all the way back to my place. We both sat on the couch waiting as the heater warmed us up and I told him what I could cook for dinner, he was holding my hand and seemed to be lost in thought before I nudged him softly and asked him what he wanted. "How about a redo of our first date, no bar this time. How about the diner?" He asked and I just nodded. "Is there anything to do around here for fun, like a roller rink or..." "They have an ice rink for the holidays. I haven't skated in so long though." I knew I would fall on my ass the second I let go of the wall, but maybe he could keep me up. "Me either. Do you know how to snowboard or ski?" He offered out and I gulped. "Not really as well as I would like to.... and it's going to be dark soon." I looked out and he nodded as well, there was always tomorrow though. "So dinner, a walk around the town, and come back here." Charlie offered out and I just nodded and went with the plan. I got a thicker coat on and we held hands all the way to the diner. Since it was dinner time, the high school kids were working as waitresses and waiters. "Hey Miss Regan." I waved at Stacy, she was a senior who had been someone who everyone knew in town since her birth. Her family was the founders of the town where we could be who we wanted with each other. They created the sanctuary and she was one hell of a organizer. She helped me clean up shop last summer and she got paid amazingly enough to buy herself a car. "Who's that?" Charlie asked me and I looked back to him and smiled. "She helped me clean up the entire shop." I told him and he seemed to be interested before waiting for us. "Is that why you slapped my hand with magic... because you had to hire help?" He asked me and I blushed and looked away. "Yeah actually. I paid her nicely by the hour, we were both working and she ended up able to buy a car." I shook my head as a waiter started towards us. "Are you two ready to order drinks or food?" He asked and I nodded. "Can I have a hot chocolate? And then the French toast plate with scrambled eggs and bacon." I told the new kid and he wrote it down quickly before looking at Charlie who was still looking over the menu. "I would like a decaf coffee, and the garbage omelet with no mushrooms." He pushed the menu towards the edge for the waiter and as he finished writing he collected both before taking off. "So, tell me more about you. What's something you've always wanted?" He asked and I giggled lightly and shook my head. "I haven't really been a person to wish for things. I've had a dream of if things happen the way they could... I would advance in certain areas. What about you? What do you desire most in the world?" I asked him instead and he gulped. "I've always wanted a family. To have kids and have a mate that I love. To do something fun for work, or at least challenging." He smiled and I felt my insides melt slowly... kids? I've always wanted a bunch. My mother never wanted to mate with another human or any other kind of supernatural so I was stuck as an only child my entire life. And I hated it. So knowing my mate wants more than one already made him one step closer to perfect. "And how many kids would you want?" I asked and he smiled before shrugging. "When I was 23, I was alone during the holidays and there was a large family on vacation.... four kids who seemed to love each other more than anything... and since then I have wanted at least four." He said and I just smiled. That sounded like a good number. "Sounds like a good number." "Tell me more about your Pixie side." He urges and I smiled slowly. "Well my mom was a princess sort of thing... the youngest of 12 actually. She was going to be promised to some guy she never met to get some kind of p*****t to the royal family or something like that... and she found a way to get smuggled out of the realm and she landed in Ireland. Met some guy in a band and was in love with him until she wound up pregnant with me... and then she was dumped with money for an abortion. But instead she came here and had me. She was always good with fabrics in her world, so she got a loan and started making dresses." I laid it out and he seemed a little more confused about the details but I tried to answer every question while we had food and drinks set in front of us. "And have you ever tried to go to the other realm?" He asked and I shook my head and finished off my breakfast for dinner. "No. My mom told me that when she was pregnant, before she came here, she tried to go home. But the family shunned her, told her that because I was human I had to live as one. That I should never know the beauty of the Pixie homeland." I did feel so horrible that my other never got the chance to go back, she always used to tell me stories of her family and her brothers and sisters and the land and how all of it was so magical, and she would cry most of the time and tell me it was just because she missed it too much. "Do you know any Pixies that go in and out of that realm?" He asked and I nodded slowly. "Do you ever talk to them about-" "No. She's only here during the spring time mostly. She's a little more positive than I wanted to ever be when she first came here and we were started out on the wrong foot... and have stayed there ever since." "Would you ever want to meet her siblings? Or parents?" "I would want to meet them just to feel closer to her. Not out of respect for them or anything like that... I could careless if they needed me to run the kingdom. I would never go there. If they wanted to meet me, then they better come to this world and work for it." I shook my head with a light laugh and he smiled at me. "What?" "You're so..." "What? C'mon I won't hold it against you if you say-" "You're so much better than I could have ever hoped for." "No I'm really not. I'm just me." I took a sip of my drink and he grabbed my hand as I set it down before pulling me into his side and giving me a kiss. Right there. In front of the entire diner. And it felt amazing. Like the first couple had felt. Charlie really was my mate.
