"Gone? What do you mean gone!?" I demanded as Agnes shared the news.
The other guards who were in charge all had nothing to say.
I'd returned earlier from the two-month trip I'd imposed on myself to distract myself, but it had turned disastrous upon my return.
A return I'd fought to ensure was at least a day earlier than planned, but now, the sole reason why I ran back and away from home had taken to her heels without anyone being suspicious.
When I'd asked for the remaining five of them to be gathered, only four had shown up.
And to my dismay, the fifth and most important was nowhere to be found within the palace walls a report to her family hadn't given the returns I wanted either.
