Aurora's POV I've been in total darkness for three days and aside from the sounds of metal clanging, I haven't heard or felt anything. The floor was hard too. Sometimes it got mushy from the water that entered through the small opening at the foot of the container, but a little shift and it would get all dry and sandy again. They said it would take five days and I thought I could hold out since I packed enough food, but all I had left were five of the twenty apples I plucked in the garden, mostly immature and some overripe as I'd done everything in a hurry. The half-eaten midnight snacks in the bag which Stephanie always snuck up to bed with were all I had to sustain myself, but I didn't think I could go on for much longer.
