Chapter 6.1: First Task

“Sheena, we need to go back to the apartment to discuss this task together.” Canary placed her hand on my shoulder to get my attention. “Have you read the paper yet?” She asked.

“Yes, I did. But I still have questions...” I said before trailing off to try to read the paper again.

“I’ll tell you how to use that paper.” She said, we quickly went to the apartment to prepare. She told me to wear a black hood to cover my face. I was shocked when she also gave me a new set of fancy clothes, but she said that it was part of the disguise we needed so I just accepted it.

“Read that paper again. You can see the profile of the target and what he’s doing for a living. It says there that Mr. Martin is an extreme gambler and he has been playing in casinos and gambling dens for a long time. I guess that’s the reason why we need to find him.” She explained before shrugging. “He loaned a huge amount of money from the black organization to continue gambling, but he hasn’t paid his debt ever since. The ultimatum that Miss Ava mentioned was the given time for him to pay.” She explained and I slowly understood what she was saying. It makes a lot more sense now.

“It says here that we need to find him before the sun sets. There’s a record of his schedule from our other informants written there. It is said that when the clock strikes seven, he will enter the casino to gamble. The location of the Casino was mentioned in that paper too, so make sure you memorize it.” Canary said while pointing at the paper. “But anyways, we can’t enter the Casino looking like rags who just happened to be wandering around. We need to change into good clothes because we need to look like we belong there. So we should hurry and change now.” She said and I followed her.

She gave me a small knife and a pouch. She told me that the pouch contains poison and the knife will serve as self-protection. Our job is really dangerous because it involves dealing with merciless, violent people, so I thanked her from the bottom of my heart. 

“Make sure you watch me carefully and follow what I do. Don’t suddenly go off on your own and just stick with me, you understand?” Canary said, her expression looked like a combination of worry and strictness. I nodded to give her assurance.

“Yes, I understand.” I replied before looking at the paper to fully memorize it. The two of us burned it afterwards. The information written inside was all controversial and it will be dangerous for us and the organization if it gets leaked. I made sure that the letter was secured on the belt that I have under my skirt. Under my skirt, there’s a space for the knife and the poison that Canary handed me a while ago. It was quite uncomfortable at first but she said I will get used to it later on.

Before making sure I had everything, I looked at the mirror in front of me and saw myself wearing the fancy white gown Canary handed me. My complexion has improved a little, but I’m still lacking in weight and muscle. But with this good-quality dress and the make-up Canary did for me, I can say that I look like a proper noble. Somehow, looking at the girl in the mirror feels like looking at the old me, but it also feels different at the same time. With everything I’ve been through in that mansion I used to call home, and the experiences I’ve had as a slave so far, I can’t picture going back to my old self anymore. I am a completely different person now.

“Sheena, are you ready?” Looks like Canary was also done with her preparations.

“Yes,” I answered with a resolved voice. “Yes, I am.”
